Gigabyte's B550 Gaming X V2 is the Best value AM4 platform right now, but it is pretty bland and lacks some of the "nice to have" features we are used to seeing for a £100 board.

This is one of those motherboards that is "good enough" nothing too exciting, but all the bases are covered and it even has front USB type C header. Having no diagnostic LEDs is a shame, and no built in Wifi or Bluetooth will put some people off, But the Q-flash BIOS and 5000 series ready sticker means that most people should find this an easy platform to build on.

Then you see them obsessed with decorating PCB, transistors and capacitors ... what can be considered to be the analog of "intestine plastic surgery".
You think they would easily get bored because they probably have already seen everything on the internet.
Then you see them entertained by watching a video in which someone opens a box.
For those wondering: this is the Rev 1.1 board. Gigabyte is now up to Rev 1.4, and as usual does not disclose what they've changed.
As for the review: I'd have appreciated knowing what exact model of Realtek audio chip / codec is being used. Gigabyte in recent years has begun to omit this information for no good reason. Yes, this does matter to some of us.
they often switch the codecs depending what is still available we see it a lot from most of the board vendors now especially with them all using JIT supply chains
Hi, I'm in the process of buying motherboard and processor. I already bought Nvidia 3060 12 GB and I'll order Ryzen 5600 today/tomorrow so is this good motherboard(considering I don't have big budget). It says on the box "3rd gen Ryzen desktop ready" so will it work with R5600 right out of the box. Also I have Thermaltake Smart 530W PSU on my old PC(Ryzen 3200G, GTX 1050 Ti) so do I need to buy new PSU? Please answer if it's not too much trouble because this will be my first independent build so I don't wont to f..k up something.

A B550 mobo which does what it says it will.....I'll take it !!! Doesnt look too boring, that looks really nice, I especially like the build in IO shield. Im on the lookout for a new mobo and was hoping for a decent price on an MSI board but looking at this one has made me reconsider. Thanks Mike and Kath 🙂

@@mikesunboxing i have a question mike if its not too much too ask? i have a cit case, 6x fans.....artic cpu cooler on a amd 8300 cpu at 3.3ghz (thermal pasted), my card is a 12gig rtx 3060 eagle, with a 750watt renegade power supply, my monitor is a g65b oddessey 1440p, 240hz......my question is on certain games my temperature is around 60c both cpu and gpu according to HWinfo......but i noticed when i play manor lords or palworld, my cpu temp will climb to about 80c.....when it hits 80c, the games run fine after about 30 seconds then start to lag and i get a huge fps drop and lag....i noticed on my nvidia performance my power watts drop, my voltage drops, and my fps drop, 180fps down to about 10 - 20fps for about 15 seconds then go back up again.....is this down to cpu or gpu throttling? is there a fix for this issue? and will i have the same issue once i switch over to this am4 motherboard, am4 cpu and 3200mhz ram without AIO cooler? have you ever experienced like this before?

Having seen this on pcpartpicker and amazon I was intrigued as a replacement for my AsusRogStrix B450F Game2 especially as it has extra usb2 ports, fan connections and built in IO shield. After your thorough review esp pcie lanes not sure if upgrade or side step. Just hope prices come down in 2023. Thank you for reviewing to your usual high standard Mike and Kath.👍

I usually connect a small motherboard speaker on my builds. Not only do I find the post boot beep reassuring it helps me in diagnosing faults in the absence of mobo diagnostic leds.

I got no manual with mine from amazon (was gigabyte's official store). The only thing I'm really missing on this mobo's audio is SPDIF optical, but I have a soundblaster z card I can throw on just to use as SPDIF out (The SB Z is terrible btw, don't use it for anything else).
That's the one I bought a month or 2 ago, I paid 115€ and I'm mostly happy with it. I paired it with a Ryzen 5 5600 but damn the bios is god awful. It was a nightmare coming from an ASUS B350 prime plus which was ugly but bios was great. Nice vid :)
How is the pair working? Im planning to buy the same mobo and cpu combo you have and im wondering how is it performing.
@@macix8367 It's great, I didn't have any problems with the combo. CPU was working out of the box too, so no bios update required in my case. :)

the entry level audio codec would be a deal breaker for me, but that's why I picked up the aorus elite ax v2 during black friday. seems like solid board for the price.
Is AudioRealtek ALC887 code any good, that's the one on the board that I want to buy.

AM4 boards are still so pricey! I've snagged the odd a320 & B350 board lately at a reasonable price, I'd rather be using B450/550 but they are just inflated!
I recently bought a B550 Aorus Pro AC, so I could use my bluetooth GAMING controller (works brilliantly btw).
I realised a few days ago that I will miss the integrated GPU of my old i7-4790, as two graphics cards have packed up on me over the years, and if my RX-580 dies too, I won't have a display! One good reason to go with a "G" version Ryzen.

you are comparing two different sizes of board, not sure if that is intentional? I would avoid ASUS personally until they can fix their drivers and software
Its a solid board for an adequate price that will give you everything needed for a current gen gaming system without frills.

A no-frills board that works just fine at an attractive price. I have two of them in occasional, not daily, use. I wouldn't recommend it for the 105W CPUs, but for the 65W chips, it's plenty good.

it is boring in terms of specs nothing exciting or better than it's peers like internal usb type c or maybe 2.5gb LAN, the Wifi is pretty decent

they are to very different board, the elite is better for power delivery but is a micro atx so has limited ports, the ATX gaming x v2 is better suited to ATX cases

At least it isn't one of their Power Supplies. LOL. I'm still using an MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard I bought back in 2012! Paired with an Intel i7-3770, 16 Gigs of DDR3-1600 Ram and an nVidia GTX 750 GPU. All still work fine as my daily driver. Thanks as always to Mike and Lady Kath for the review. Take care all. Cheers
@@rickh8380 Just sold my 2012 Gigabyte H81m DS2V, but gaming performance was starting to lag behind and it didn't play 4k video very well. Not everyone is a gamer or video editor, so old boards can still serve a purpose.

@Big O-you are right, we don't; stick w/your overpriced X570...
I don't really care about the looks rgb etc...but the main point would be the vrm temps under load.
And this MB doesn't have a decent cooling for some reason.
It will still do the job, but compared to other alternatives with the same b550 chipset it runs 20/30 degrees C hotter.
Which is essential.

depends if you need wifi or not and don't might the physical size of the board.

I am an AMD person, but here in my country - New Zealand there is not a ,ot of choice of AMD 4 mother boards
Some have the Lan 2.5 - so you have to watch out for that (unless you really want it)

yes there will be shared lanes, and probably better to get pcie gen3 for the second slot unless it is more expensive

Good morning, if you install 4 RAM modules at 3200 MHz on that board, whether it maintains that speed or not, I say this because some boards have 4 RAM modules installed and their speed decreases to 2900 MHz.
It will depend on the quality of the memory controller on the processor

M.2 slots are not the same as WiFi m.2 slots they are a different type

they are starting to phase out documentation and physic media so i wouldn't be surprised if it was missing

I just ordered one with a 5700x cpu I'm hoping it will have latest bios. And fitting my 7900xt gpu because my 3600 ryzen 5 and the b450 f just won't fully boot .gpu is fine because I put it on my kids pc and tested it so I'm just out of luck new motherboard and cpu lol

Well update hmm it stall didn't want to boot and I had no clue because it did boot on my older one time.But I fill so so stupid it's the dam gsync screen .I put it on my kid freesync 75hz screen old one and it shows the dam screen .so what the he'll do I do it won't work on my gsync 144hz except one time. A stupid settings or the cable has a compatability issue HELP
