@@waldo1359 yes there some considerations for using all the m.2 slots as mentioned, that is the benefit of the x570 version with more pcie lanes via the cpu / chipset

@@PaulBakewell i think a lot of it is the various config options and pcie lane options that cause a lot of problems, there are also early versions of the board that had the heatsink too loose and that caused VRM whining which put off a lot of people. changing the VRM pad to a thicker one or tightening the screws resolved this in many cases. Sadly MSI don't have the best track record in production quality and this does happen quite often, but the trade off is good spec boards and reasonable prices.
First you get your hands on the Gaming Edge Wifi, now the B550 Unify non X version. Like the Jeffersons, you're movin' on up! Gorgeous board like a lot of MSI mainboards. A very powerful pro OC board with exclusive easy OC features like one click 5000X3D boost and complete preset RAM overclock settings up to 5100Mhz. True 16 phase 90A Infinion stages, dual 8 pin CPU power connectors, 6 pin PCIe direct to board power connector. Five USB 3.2 10GBs USB ports, 4 USB 2A, three gen 4x4 M.2 NVMe, one Gen 3x4, with dual mode lane switching. Price to performance value is off the hook on this OC record holder. Buildzoid's #1 AM4.
Just beware the 2nd m.2 slot cancels out the pcie slot below, and the m.2 slot 3 and 4 cancels out the 2 pcie slots below. so anything else apart from a single GPU and you trade m.2's for PCIE slot.
it is a fine board for sure. maybe a little complicated to get the best out of the m.2 slots due to pcie bandwidth and chipset usage, but i'll figure it out
On this board, you almost don't need any hard drives... you just use all the M.2 slots with 1TB chips and you're good to go! I really like this board and might get one later. I think we are going to see alot more boards with multiple M.2 slots on them and traditional hard drives are going to start going away.... laptops are already there.... they are now using a M.2 drive.... crazy!
I have absolutely no idea why MSI threw this much firepower at a B550 board... all I can think is that they intended for buyers to use BCLK overclocking (which is a LOT easier than with X570).
I think they wanted to set pro OC records for brand wide prestige. I don't think they made many mostly targeting the small pro OC community. I found one at Microcenter for $75 on closeout sale and open box, double discount. I was there for the 5600X3D to drop into an Aorus B450 build, plan changed. Needless to say I spent the next week testing CPU/RAM kit OC limits. It was mind blowing, especially with decent RAM and the X3D OC possibilities. I only wish it had a dual BIOS and less M.2 to fit another X16 PCIe slot. You can always add more M.2 with PCIe expansion card but M.2 has no such versatility, kinda dumb they did that.
Hey Mike thanks for the vid, I've just bought this board and i was wondering if you have new info on how and which CPU can give me the m.2 gens on 3 slots ? I haven't bought the cpu yet, was wondering if the 5800X can give me this particular option, thanks.
it comes down to the PCIe lanes available on the Processor this CPU has 24 lanes as does the 5900x so this is more likely to work in this configuration
I tried this board and of coarse I got a dud. It booted first thing and then Dr Debug just kept going spitting out numbers from 42-31 and it never stopped. Tech support said they had never seen it before. I sent it back because I had all four M.2's filled and I couldn't read but 2 Sata drives and support was no help.
the EPS 8 pin will be fine for most cases, add the other for high drain CPU. The extra PCIe on the bottom would be useful if using a LOT of PCIe devices

Im thinking of getting this board as i want to use all m.2 storage rather than ssd/ spinning disk. am i right in thinking that a 5600x or 5800x with a 3070 will be fine with this and worst case scenario the M.2s may drop to gen 3 (no biggy, as its still faster than spinning disk)?

kind of as b550 came out after x570 and also ironed out a few issues and in general had the same or better vrm setups. MSI's x570 was pretty awful but the b550 hasn't really got a bad model in the entire line up
@@mikesunboxing the unify and above boards didn’t have vrm problems with MSI it was the bottom end ones. The vrm on the b550 is overkill. Don’t really even need heat sinks.
Out of curiosity, do you know what the height and width of the IO cover is from the inside? I have a big dual tower heatsink (CNPS20X) that has 47mm of height clearance from the motherboard to the bottom of the fins. For comparison the NH-D15 heatsink has a clearance of 64mm, and I've seen that heatsink used on this board, but not the heatsink I'm using. I am considering this motherboard, but the IO cover on the inside looks bigger than other motherboard IO covers, and I just want to be sure it doesn't block my the heatsink because the sizes are incompatible.
Have you noticed any coil whine on your board? I've just boxed mine up and am mailing it back tomorrow because the buzzing noise when moving the mouse was driving me nuts. Under load it just got worse :(
yes mine had the same issue which was much worse under load. It seems the VRM heatsink and pads don't make the right contact with the metal and this seems to be causing it for some
i have this board with a 5950X can it support more than 1 pci gen 4 m.2 at a time? I currently have 2 Samsung 970 evo plus, Ive bought my first 980 pro was debating on weather or not to get a second 980 pro

Disable Wifi in BIOS or OS and detach the antenna. then just pretend it's a non WiFi version 😃I'm guessing you'd prefer more real estate for more IO in place of the WiFi ant connections.
@@jamesmiscellaneous that is one reason Original. Myself, I don't ever intend to use a desktop on Wifi. So, in my way of thinking, would rather see the resources etc. that was used for Wifi components, etc, be put toward other things I personally would find more useful such as an extra 3.0 USB port. I am sure the price of the MOBO will be increased bc it comes with Wifi connectors and circuitry, etc. vs one that does not have Wifi connectors.

@@camotech1314 haven't heard anything.
I just ordered this MB. Had everything I wanted for a reasonable price.
yeah shame mine had issues and had to be returned
great vid, looks lkie a nice board
I love it
A very powerful pro OC board with exclusive easy OC features like one click 5000X3D boost and complete preset RAM overclock settings up to 5100Mhz. True 16 phase 90A Infinion stages, dual 8 pin CPU power connectors, 6 pin PCIe direct to board power connector. Five USB 3.2 10GBs USB ports, 4 USB 2A, three gen 4x4 M.2 NVMe, one Gen 3x4, with dual mode lane switching. Price to performance value is off the hook on this OC record holder. Buildzoid's #1 AM4.
4 M.2 slots? I might have to trade my X570 Unify for this one. You got a great bargain. Here in the states, the board is $289 at the US Amazon.
Just beware the 2nd m.2 slot cancels out the pcie slot below, and the m.2 slot 3 and 4 cancels out the 2 pcie slots below. so anything else apart from a single GPU and you trade m.2's for PCIE slot.
it is a fine board for sure. maybe a little complicated to get the best out of the m.2 slots due to pcie bandwidth and chipset usage, but i'll figure it out
@@bantcliff it slows the x16 slot to x8 if you use the 2nd and 3rd 4.0 m.2 slots while the 3.0 slot removes 2 SATA ports
On this board, you almost don't need any hard drives... you just use all the M.2 slots with 1TB chips and you're good to go! I really like this board and might get one later. I think we are going to see alot more boards with multiple M.2 slots on them and traditional hard drives are going to start going away.... laptops are already there.... they are now using a M.2 drive.... crazy!
yes i can agree, i have not used a HDD in one of my own machines for a long time now
Hey Mike... You sure did get a bargain... I'd hate to think what it will cost here in NZ... It ticks a lot of box's
Just a casual 567, i just checked
it was a very good bargain, very pleased with it
wow that is a lot of money
I have absolutely no idea why MSI threw this much firepower at a B550 board... all I can think is that they intended for buyers to use BCLK overclocking (which is a LOT easier than with X570).
yeah this is a wild board
@@bodasactra Lack of dual BIOS is a massive oversight, IMO, on an xOC board.
I got the X570S ACE MAX, and that one has (manual) dual.
@@JMUDoc Perfection
Should I go with GIGABYTE B450 DS3H V2 or GIGABYTE B450 AORUS M
aorus m is the better board
Hey Mike thanks for the vid, I've just bought this board and i was wondering if you have new info on how and which CPU can give me the m.2 gens on 3 slots ? I haven't bought the cpu yet, was wondering if the 5800X can give me this particular option, thanks.
it comes down to the PCIe lanes available on the Processor this CPU has 24 lanes as does the 5900x so this is more likely to work in this configuration
@@mikesunboxing Thanks Mike!
@@medimeb No problem :-)
I tried this board and of coarse I got a dud. It booted first thing and then Dr Debug just kept going spitting out numbers from 42-31 and it never stopped. Tech support said they had never seen it before. I sent it back because I had all four M.2's filled and I couldn't read but 2 Sata drives and support was no help.
sorry to hear that Jim
You had a good deal. Meanwhile, somewhere in canada, me looking at the price 😭😭😭😭😭
yeah the price was great but i already had to RMA it, all will be explained soon
Hi, nice presentation, question when we have to connect pci-e alimentation câble on mother board, thanks
the EPS 8 pin will be fine for most cases, add the other for high drain CPU. The extra PCIe on the bottom would be useful if using a LOT of PCIe devices

I don't understand why MSI put 4 USB 2.0 (two of which should have been USB 3.0, in my opinion) and PS2 on a card like that :(
yes it is quite an odd setup
APU/Graphic CPU that work with board are: Ryzen 5 5600G, PRO 5750G, Pro 5650G, Ryzen 7 5700G, 5700GE, 5600GE, Ryzen 3 PRO 5350G, 5300G etc etc.('bout 24 APU's will work this board so far.
Thanks for the info
Man that’s suck a good looking board. I might actually get this instead of the gaming edge wifi but, I want to ask if this board has better VRM temps than the gaming edge wifi?
yes a little better
@@mikesunboxing ah ok. Also, for the first M.2 slot, can it work with the Samsung 970 evo plus Gen 3??
Thanks for the video. I have bee trawling through motherboards and im quite confused as to how the m.2/pcie/ everything works. Im thinking of getting this board as i want to use all m.2 storage rather than ssd/ spinning disk. am i right in thinking that a 5600x or 5800x with a 3070 will be fine with this and worst case scenario the M.2s may drop to gen 3 (no biggy, as its still faster than spinning disk)?
yes get a CPU with lots of PCie lanes ideally the 5800x is a great choice
@@mikesunboxing how about the 5600x? I'm running a 3600 atm and only really gaming and dabbling in streaming
@@aronlamb9726 That will be the same as the 5800X If you want more information on the exact SATA/M.2 configurations, download the owners manual on the MSI website
Is it an overkill for the 5700x? Or I should get the Tomahawk B550?
Not doing any overclocking. Using it for a lot of 3d rendering?
tomahawk will be fine either are excellent choices though, let us know which one you go for
I really want a Unify X. settled for A520I AC for some RAM OC and buried PBO lols
lol - as long as it works and you can use it, its fine
Can I put GPU + 4x m2 + sound card on last pcie x1 slot and everything will be good? (R9 5900X) And What about m2 ssd, all will be pcie 4.0 or just first one?
that should be fine the 5900x has a lot of pcie lanes to play with and the drive should be on the top slot if you can
X570 to B550 is this an upgrade?
kind of as b550 came out after x570 and also ironed out a few issues and in general had the same or better vrm setups.
I am considering this motherboard, but the IO cover on the inside looks bigger than other motherboard IO covers, and I just want to be sure it doesn't block my the heatsink because the sizes are incompatible.
not sorry i had to return it or i would measure it
Have you noticed any coil whine on your board?
I've just boxed mine up and am mailing it back tomorrow because the buzzing noise when moving the mouse was driving me nuts. Under load it just got worse :(
yes mine had the same issue which was much worse under load. It seems the VRM heatsink and pads don't make the right contact with the metal and this seems to be causing it for some
i have this board with a 5950X can it support more than 1 pci gen 4 m.2 at a time? I currently have 2 Samsung 970 evo plus, Ive bought my first 980 pro was debating on weather or not to get a second 980 pro
no the other slot are gen 3 sorry you need the X570 version for that
@@mikesunboxing cool thank you for responding I didn't want to waste money on pcie gen 4 hardware if I wasn't getting it, pcie gen 3 hardware is quite a bit cheaper

probably this or the B550 Gaming carbon
Hi Mike Where on MSI web site do i find the QVC lists for ram and processor?

@@PapaMav No problem :-)
Just bought the Unify x (Picked it up the day this vid came out) at the bargain of £199 :( , (no GPU to set it up with yet but it's a long term project),
Follow up videos on how you set up the M.2's / would be good, I'm thinking of maybe Operating system on a small one and a Gaming setup on another with Video editing on another, would like to know what your intentions are for best performance. (might try not putting HDD/SSD on but some cheap holding storage might also be a good option.
1 of the biggest omissions from PC builders is setting up the operating system and splitting the storage Pics Vids etc. onto another storage drive.
i am using a pcie gen 4 in the top slot for now and a pcie gen 3 x 4 in the second slot up and now like you thinking of what or where to but my editing drive - i'll work it out eventually and probably make some content on it although there is another issue or two i need to address first
