    7:39 agreed! The subscription should come with the device itself. They can make a standalone subscription for just the app. But it makes no sense to penalize a customer base that literally just showed support by paying nearly $200 for an alarm clock, of all things.
    The only reason why I will be buying this alarm clock is because I work overnight and miss sunrises etc, working double shifts and overnight…you become desperate to get that sense of normalcy. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend this for people. Too many cheaper more affordable apps that only require your phone, but do the same thing.

      I absolutely hate subscriptions of any kind. I agree, it would make more sense for them to offer a standalone app subscription that plays noise directly from the phone, and let customers who buy this have full and unlimited access.
      With that said... now that the initial magic of all the sound options has worn off for me, I mostly stick to the same few free sounds anyway and don't have much interest in the premium soundscapes, so I guess it's all good in the end.

    Damn.. I need to get a Hatch restore 2. My iphone alarm is miserable to wake up to

    You shouldn’t have needed to unplug the alarm clock when you didn’t want it to wake you up. There is a toggle switch on the side that you can switch to the off position so that the alarm doesn’t go off. I’ve personally used this because I turn my WiFi off at night and one day I forgot to adjust my wake up time so I just switched the toggle off. (If anyone wants to see where that switch is, I did a review of this clock about 4 months ago.)

      Good to know, thanks! I don’t think I’ve read an Instruction Manual in over a decade. 😅

    so once you set the wake up time through the app, you don't have to worry about it being connected to WiFi? It's ridiculous to me that my alarm clock needs to be connected to WiFi to wake me up. So, just trying to clarify that point

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  4 месяца назад +1

      Correct, I'm pretty sure that's how it works. I've lost wifi before due to a storm power surge and I'm pretty sure it still ran my preset routines. The reason I was personally annoyed was because I couldn't figure out a way to CHANGE the routines without wifi, and I didn't want to be woken up at my regular time the next morning. I also dislike that particular feature.

      @easy_fluff to clarify further - as long as you have it set up while on WiFi to a set alarm time, if you unplug your WiFi, the alarm will still go off at the time you previously set it for in the app. The issue is that if the clock isn’t connected to WiFi, you can’t use the app to “talk” to the clock to make changes. Basically, you need the WiFi and app in order to set it up and if you need to change the alarm time or sounds or lights, the clock needs to be connected to WiFi. I unplug my WiFi every night and my alarm works fine. I just need to make sure before I unplug my internet that I have the correct times set. Also note that you can manually stop any alarm from going off my using the toggle off switch on the side of the clock. This is handy if you don’t want to go into the app and turn off your routine alarm if you have an off day from work or if you, like me, occasionally forget to change the alarm before unplugging the WiFi. I hope that helps explain it. It’s definitely a little annoying. I would rather it be connected via Bluetooth not WiFi. 😊

    So it runs on a regular plug?? What if the power goes out?

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  Месяц назад

      Yup! I mostly like it as a sound machine, so if a thunderstorm knocked the power out I'd still be good listening to the natural rain instead. Power outages are a very rare occurrence by me, so it's not something I think about much - but I definitely always set a backup alarm on my phone if I have to wake up for something important and can't afford to roll the dice.

    Re: subscription, I’m thinking of buying one just because I already have their subscription with the baby sound machine 😒 My toddler previewed one of the programs and was hooked ever since so I just have to pay to keep her happy. But honestly a few dollars a month is in the grand scheme not a lot to keep my toddler happy and snoozing on 10 minutes, and not have to be playing something with my phone, which is terrible for her. I just wish they can offer individual programs for a few dollars. Like $3-10 for a specific album. Because we only listen to like two premium albums. I’d probably just pay for those and nothing else, if that was an option.

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  Месяц назад

      I don't keep a subscription myself, but I understand why people do! If you're already paying for one for another device, I would definitely say the Hatch Restore 2 is a worthwhile addition.
      I agree it could be nice to have an "e-store" type option to buy an album once upfront for $3-10. I'd personally pay like... $50-100 or so for a lifetime subscription option.

    great review ...for me it doesnt matter what wakes me up if I dont want to get up a light will. not make me or birds chirping.....but I am sure some people will like this & I agree with you about subscriptions I dont sign up for any of them & the products that try to trick you into subscriptions I dont like its usually snuck in there very sneakily I feel anything thayt says FREE almost always has a subscription like if you dont call back wd will give you the subscription

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  Месяц назад

      It helps me a lot because I sleep with blackout curtains in my room... so it stays dark unless I use artificial light like this; and if it stays dark, I stay sleeping haha. And yea, subscriptions suck and I feel they're totally unnecessary for this product.

    The sound effects in the video are too loud and feel kinda childish for a view review on a more 'premium' alarm clock, thats my only suggestion!
