Thank you man, I really appreciate your work. I found your channel this year and then I had myself checking your updates to discover new prog music. I like your musical taste man. Keep the good work!
Just wanted to say a big thankyou for all your reviews throughout the year, a very happy proggy new year to you, my nol album was the brilliant MOON SAFARI, not many albums do you get 3 songs that are a 10/10, BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND ME, A LIFETIME TO LEARN AND TEEN ANGEL are 3 songs that are that good.
Thanks for the video! I found this channel off of the A7X review because it was an album I loved and im new to this style of music, I listened to Bear Ghost because of this video and I loved it so much its all that I have been listening to. Are there any groups similar to this that I can listen to? I am in love with this genre of music and I need more LOL
Bear Ghost are kind of in a league of their own, but if you're looking for something brutal in that same vein, try Between the Buried and Me, and if you're looking for less brutal but just as fun, try Dear Hunter

First time here, this is a great video. Did you hear the new DGM album this year? It was my #6 and given our taste overlap I’m surprised it wasn’t here. Happy new year!
Ahh Dodheimsgard in the honourable mentions, we love to see it haha! Heard some good things about The Anchoret, I will definitely check that out. NeO and The Ocean also in there which is awesome. I also loved King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. A big new discovery for me! I've added Hymns For Hungry Spirits to my list of things to listen to. Very much here for Crown Lands and Steven Wilson man, Harmony Codex is just brilliant and followed up by Urne and Haken, can you tell that I'm watching this as I type haha - great to see Green Lung in at number 5 too man! I too love Tool's Fear Inoculum haha - so good dude. I have never heard of Bear Ghost but will check them out for sure. Great list mate! Lots of good Prog stuff on there. Nice one!
Let me know what you think of Bear Ghost! I know it's not for everyone, but I loved it (as you could tell). I hope you enjoy all the recommendations! I've been loving all of yours so I hope I can pass on the good vibes!
5. 'Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle' by Moonlight Sorcery 4. 'Death Pill' by Death Pill 3. 'Sator Arepo' by Judgitzu 2. 'Yallah Beibe' by MC YALLAH 1. 'Seasons Dreaming Death' by GraveRipper
As usual, whenever I create a "best of" annual year-end list I leave a bunch of good stuff off and 2023 was no exception at all. I probably could have made this list ten times longer and boring af to read, but that said, barring a complete miracle for 2023's last month, I have what would be the 25 albums that I enjoyed the most this year: 1. Lovebites -- Judgement Day 2. Delain -- Dark Waters 3. Hellripper -- Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags 4. Insomnium -- Anno 1696 5. Overkill -- Scorched 6. Redshift -- Laws of Entropy 7. Xandria -- The Wonders Still Awaiting 8. Perc3ption -- Art In Extreme Situations 9. Fierce Justice -- Fireborn 10. Acid King -- Beyond Vision 11. Enforced -- War Remains 12. Wytch Hazel -- IV: Sacrament 13. Restless Spirit -- Afterimage 14. Kalmah -- S/T 15. Ne Obliviscaris -- Exul 16. Echoes of Bronze -- Ilium 17. Night Legion -- Fight or Fall 18. Enchantya -- Cerberus 19. Majesties -- Vast Reaches Unclaimed 20. Midnight Vice -- S/T (the riffs on this are KILLER) 21. Excalion -- Once Upon A Time 22. Naitaka -- Emergence 23. Blood Ceremony -- The Old Ways Remain 24. Soen -- Memorial 25. Iron Savior -- Firestar Just missed: Dhaliax -- Doomed , Obituary -- Dying of Everything, Blackbraid -- Blackbraid II, Cruachan -- The Living and the Dead, Enslaved -- Heimdal, Blackbriar -- A Dark Euphony, Moonlight Sorcery -- Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle, Akilla -- The Gods Have Spoken, Omnium Gatherum -- Slasher, Powerwolf-- Interludium, Orbit Culture -- Descent, Green Lung -- This Heathen Land, Twilight Force -- At the Heart of Wintervale, Crypta -- Shades of Sorrow, Strike -- Break the Chains, Frozen Crown -- Call of the North and Exmortus -- Necrophony. Even with 25, I left off a LOT of good stuff.
There's so much to check out from this list. I have lots to listen to. I was hoping that Breathing Space by Hackberry was on this list. I found out about them by you and for me, it would be in my top 10, if not top 5 albums of 2023.
I have no idea if I’ve had any effect, but I’ve been talking up Moon Safari’s “Blood Moon” to the few radio DJs I’m still in touch with in Gainesville, Florida after moving away a decade ago. If the lyrics aren’t set on the University of Florida campus, I don’t know what is. I’m thinking hopefully it’s enough of a hook to get some airplay in the Gator Town market, and that may instill curiosity about the rest of the album.
Yes apparently it is set in that city! I'm in the moon safari fb group and petter westerlund confirmed that the song is about when he and another member is the band were on a road trip in north Central Florida and they saw a blood moon for the first time
Lubię takie podsumowania. Wiem że to subiektywny wybór ale daje mi pojęcie o tym co się w prog rocku dzieje. Wstawiaj napisy z tytułem płyty i wykonawcą. Oglądają cię ludzie z całego świata i nie każdy zna język angielski w stopniu pozwalającym zrozumieć tytuł i wykonawcą a wstawiana okładka nie zawsze jest czytelna. Pozdrowienia z Polski. Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku. Dzięki za to co robisz :)
Cool List (although I could do without most of the prog metal, just can't get into it. I also really enjoyed the Bear Ghost album, but it didn't quite make my top 25. Here is my top 25 list: 25. Lars Frederik Froislie - Fire Foretellinger 24. Sunchild - Exotic Creatures and a Stolen Dream 23. Riverside -ID.Entity 22. Dream the Electric Sleep - American Mystic 21. Peter Gabriel - i/o
If you want the title track from Harmony Codex to last for 18 min, you have to check out the extended version. Sadly, I think you have to buy the deluxe edition vinyl pack thingy that costs a small fortune. But I'm sure sooner or later it will be released on streaming services.
The compilation album reviews do seem to offer more (if that's fair or not). Will check out Great Wide Nothing record. MyTop 5 (also included in 2 recent videos on my channel) 1a. Small Leaks Sink Ships - Low Tide 1b. Hotel of the Laughing Tree - Faraway Friends 3. East of the Wall - A Neutral Second 4. Giant Sky - Giant Sky II 5. Team Me - Return to the Riverside I may be alone with my take on BearGhost, but I keep hearing the band 22 doing theatrical rock with them.
A treasure trove of a list, with so much to explore too, thank you! Just listened to a couple of HMLTD tracks - so inventive. The Avenged Sevenfold album is right up there for me too, along with The Chronicles of Father Robin and 'Salighet' by Jordsjø. Will def check out Bear Ghost - cos you're the best! :)
As far as my top 10 is concerned... 1. Riverside - ID.Entity 2. The Ocean - Holocene 3. Steven Wilson - The Harmony Codex 4. Haken - Fauna 5. Katatonia - Sky Void of Stars 6. Einar Solberg - 16 7. I'm with you with many of these mentioned - The Anchoret, Ne Obliviscaris, Avenged Sevenfold... If you love NeO, try Omega Infinity, one od Xen's side projects. The Anticurrent is great album imo. From the softer prog side I was pleasantly surprised by Lalu: The Fish Who Wanted To Be King. And my personal No. 1 this year is Einar Solberg: 16.
Well, seems no matter how hard I try, I miss stuff. Sounds like there's definitely a few things I need to try to catch up, if I can. Surprised you didn't include Lalu - The Fish Who Wanted to be King on here, since you enjoy playful stuff.
Great selection, as always. I learned a long time ago to not read other people's reviews before listening to an anticipated album. It will subconsciously color the listening experience. There are a lot of albums that others think are "bad", that are really special to me anyway because of not reading reviews in advance. Just sayin' I'm happy that you found the Tool and Avenged Sevenfold albums before those other people's opinions got to you!
victory over the sun album is my favourite of the year. holy fuck, it's emotional, experimental, disgusting, uplifting among many other things. my only 10/10 from this year. Amazing stuff
Very interesting list and a lot I have not heard of. For sure it was the year for all genres of metal. You can check out my list on my ‘best albums of 2023’ video on my channel. A lot of metal and skramz. Cheers!!!
WHOA. Honestly, thank you so much. We are honored and as soon as the vinyl is pressed, we will have one headed your way.

Luckily other people's opinions only affect my thoughts on albums positively, I don't think it's ever affected it negatively 🙂
I love your reviews. I have enjoyed watching your videos weekly for a couple years.
I also love the new Earthside 😍
Do you feel the new Yes music is lacking progness like their previous two?
Their latest one was better than their last two.
I had crown lands ranked number 1. Mystery- redemption no 2
I'm quite surprise there is no Riverside IDentity on you list. I believe it's still really good album.
I love the song nobody from avenged especially the lyrics!!!
Katatonia Sky Void of Stars def in the top for me
victory over the sun album is my favourite of the year. holy fuck, it's emotional, experimental, disgusting, uplifting among many other things. my only 10/10 from this year. Amazing stuff
I liked Sevenfold's album fine, but I don't think I've heard anyone be as glowingly positive towards that album as you lol
Good preach
Lot of mine on yours, but I could just not connect with Bear Ghost.
No worries! It might not be for everyone 🙂
Very interesting list and a lot I have not heard of. For sure it was the year for all genres of metal. You can check out my list on my ‘best albums of 2023’ video on my channel. A lot of metal and skramz. Cheers!!!

I would love to reply, but apparently 'an error occurred'.
Green Lung but no Stoned Jesus smh?..
