    Could this switch lead to a intermittent no power to pump failure?

    • @singularautomotive3542
      @singularautomotive3542  Год назад +1

      It can, you can jump the two wires that go to the switch together for a few days to try to rule out whether the switch is bad or not. But either way don't just leave it jumped out permanently, they're not that expensive on rockauto and you do not want your fuel pump to keep running if you were to ever wreck or flip your car

      @@singularautomotive3542 So I went parts hunting last night and today. Crazy thing most every place I called wanted $60 - 80 for this switch. And no body had one, I was told, We can have it here in a day or two. The last place I want to buy from is the dealership. But I gave them a try. The guy asked for the vin on the sports trac. which at the time I did not have. But he said you will have to pay for it first and they would have it in the morn. and I could pick up. He said the comp. listed two different ones. $55 and $75. So i go down there this morning and he looked it up again and charged me $45. That has Never happened before the dealership was cheaper than all the local auto parts places. thanks again for all your help.

      @@fred306801 I had that happen once, I needed wheel bearings for a Ford Festiva. $4 for both at the dealer, AutoZone wanted $10 each for some no name brand. You're better off going oem anyways. And you're welcome, feel free to reach out if you need anything

      Inertia switch cause hard starting?

  • @fred306801

    What would you do ?, I went to town this morning and the Ford Sports trax 2003 ran fine. Went out that evening and it would spin over but would not start. I tracked down this switch like the one shown in the video tapped on it and pushed on the top. Could not tell it if it clicked as if to reset itself. Wiggled the wires around and tried the key again and it fired up. Had filled it up that morning with fresh gas.

      I would just buy another interia switch, they're not that expensive on Rockauto.com. Inside of the interia switch is a metal ball that sits in a socket and makes contact with both terminals. If the ball gets knocked out of the socket or you're losing connection with one of the wires then the switch can cause a no start condition. The inertia switch can go bad like anything else electronic. And if you can't afford one or you get stuck out and it is bad just bypass it until you can get a new one, but definitely replace it at some point that switch is what cuts off the fuel pump if you were to have a bad wreck or flip the vehicle

      I had the same issue with my 2005 Sport Trac. Thought it was Gas so put more Gas in still not start just Engine Cranking or it would try to start for like 30 secs then quit but mostly turning over and rumbling. Towed it to the House. Next morning I pressed the inertia switch and it fired right up. Wandering if the passenger I was giving a Ride to that Day hit the switch because in Sport Trac they put it in a Horrible position just above where the passengers feet set. Not knowing if that what the cause so I bought a Fuel Control Module . I did reset the Inertia Switch but figured I'd change out my Fuel Control module first then Inertia next that way two things out of the way that could cause the issue.

      @@singularautomotive3542 Rockauto is cheap on their prices compared to autozone or oriellys. $75 at a competitor or $12 at Rockauto ... Thanks and it's a Standard part decent company as well.

    I had small front end collision. Recently, fixed parts. Car kept starting, I could drive it. A month ago though, I had trouble starting, cranked, and eventually started. Like no gas. But yesterday it didn't start. Cranked, but no start. Is there an inertia switch in the front? Do they just go bad? Or is it over time? Thank you

    • @singularautomotive3542

      The interia switch is tripped by a hard jolt. Ford installed them in the rear on some models and in the front on others, regardless a hard enough impact will trip the switch. They normally just trip when a large impact occurs and cuts the power going to the fuel pump until it is reset. Sounds like to me you have a wiring problem, not saying it couldn't be the switch. I'd start with the crank position sensor if you car has a tachometer. Crank the engine for 10 seconds and watch to see if the tachometer moves from 0 any during that 10 seconds. Let me know how it goes and if you knew where the interia switch is at in the vehicle you could jump the two wires together and bypass it just to rule that out as well. Hope this helps

      @@singularautomotive3542 trip switch is fine, not set off. Actually I sprayed starter fluid in throttle and it started. Then ran rough. So I think it's the filter. I'm replacing that first. See how it goes. If it still have problems then it's definitely fuel pump. I hope not. Thanks for your response
