The beetle was Edds. My mate knows Edd and helps out from time to time on the show. Why can't they just be honest! At least it seems to be more transparent now.
Really interesting Oscar. You definitely can't believe all you see on the car resto shows. I have been an amateur restorer for many years, and unless I am particularly unlucky, which is quite possible, once you start work on an old car, it ALWAYS goes from bad to worse. So, how do the shows manage to finish the cars in such a small time frame? Answer, they don't. The eagle-eyed viewers amongst us may spot new parts appearing on cars on Wheeler Dealers that are never mentioned on camera. This is because during and after filming the content for the show, the cars were handed over to other people, particularly Paul Brackley, who then had to get them into a fit state to pass an MOT and sell. I mean, why does Car SOS insist on carrying on with the Tim Shaw parts blagging nonsense? It's an insult to intelligence. He supposedly blags his way in to a company, unannounced, but with a full camera and sound crew in tow!
Crikey, these have more twists and turns than a British soap opera. Next you'll be telling us Edd wouldn't know which way to loosen a bolt and Mike has never sold a car 😂. Enjoying the series and thank you for the extensive research you are doing👍. Be interesting if Mike ever sees these whether he will comment 🤔
My husband drove the dark blue Panther 6. He used to transport vehicles for Chameleon Cars, Park Lane, London in the early to mid 1980s. He was taken to a lock-up in either Knightsbridge or Kensington. He had to inflate a couple of its tyres and jump start it. He says it was a tight squeeze to drive it out. He then drove it on trade plates and parked it outside their Park Lane showroom. The majority of Chameleon's vehicles went to Saudi.
Im loving these videos thanks for taking the time to research these so we dont have to 🤣 when you get to the range rover in series 3, an interesting observation is the rear door that was 'damaged' when they got the car was the clearly a different door as it was the only really dirty panel on the car and the one they replaced it with was literally the original one put back on😂
I too suspected that FTD243J had some story. If you see the car when shown, it's not that filthy. It has some hay on it, but looks too clean for a real barn find, and you can see that the number plate is already hanging on the wall behind Edd. PS: Little trivia: that other number plate on the wall, WER652L is the number plate of Edd's first ever car, it was a yellowish Beetle. He says that in an interview with Alex in Car Throttle.
Ah yes, the hanging number plate! I noticed that as well, so I checked it against pictures of the one on the Beetle when it was collected and it appeared to be the same one (holes and damage in same place). I also went through the other episodes around it to see if it had been there before, but it hadn't. Video was already very long so didn't include this bit! See what lengths I go to for your entertainment....!
2 years ago I bought an mgb of Barry pike who owns smr classics, he appears in the wheelers dealers episode at the beginning. I asked him about the show when I was down collecting my car and he told me that he bought the mgb back after wheeler dealers was finished with the car, he then mentioned that the car was then sold to someone in the uk who was sadly killed in the 2015 Tunisia attack. That was all the info I remember receiving from him about the car.
Great video. Looking forward to when you get to the classic Range Rover they did the LPG conversion on. Mike buys it and when he goes to view it the chap is cleaning it on the drive but the rear door and the tail gate are dirty as. They both were rusty so Ed’s says just replace them you will find some in a scrapyard. Asif by magic Mike goes to a scrapyard and finds the door and tail gate in the same colour and when edd fits them even the pin line down the side matches 🧐🤔I love wheeler dealers and I’m loving these video you guys are doing. Keep it up 👍
@@oscarsgarage447yes i still like wheeler dealers,i quite enjoy watching elvis to.i liked ant anstead but didnt like it being in the usa.glad its back home where it belongs.
One thing I noticed was most of the wheel refurbes they do , the tyres are always brand new but never mentioned. It’s tv so not real life. I did enjoy the early episodes rather than current mainly because they didn’t have all the fancy equipment that amateurs like me don’t have.
Love these “where are they now” videos. I guess you know but you can sometimes get lucky but Google image the number plate. Also Facebook, ie Where’s my Dub ? Keep videos coming 😎👍
Of course... selling the cars is secondary, and lets be honest the amount they made from selling cars in early series wouldn't keep them in tea and biscuits!
By the way, where is Dick now? Quite liked him but wasn't on many of the episodes. I know Paul (who some say did most of the work) still works with Edd.
The original beetle floor pan got pulled out of the skip & sold, so probably got built into another car. It wasn't that bad, there was no time to shorten it. The Graphic designer for the show wanted a SWB buggy, so it was built for him.
What can l say the MGB and the VW beach buggy in N.S.W any modifications to the chassis on any motor vehicle including motorcycles has to have an engineer certificate and many years ago it was aud$50000 and that was many years ago and shortening a VW chassis would require an engineers certificate
How can they of made money on the mg brewer paid a 1000 the respray cost a 1000 that's 2000 then the wheels and the seat covers .so they lost on that car .but they always used to do that .they would put a new full set of tyres and they wouldn't mention the tyres in the final price .I never believed in any sale they made all a setup.
I think the reason the MGB has not gone up by much is the people who remember then in the 60s and 70s are getting a bit old to own them. peak MGB was may be a a couple of decades ago. Although due to general asset inflation they may gone up, relative to other assets they have may changed less due to their relative demand changing
Could also be because they are just a bit shit, basically all Morris Oxford underneath, saying that they do have some charm, i've found myself fancying a chrome bumper, wire wheel GT in BRG.
Might have been how they got the idea. 'Find' painted parts saves the mess that was the capri. Plus saves mentioning the repaint costs tht would wipe the profit back in those days
Interesting that the "donor" Beetle for the beach buggy is shown as being registered on August 1st 1969. However, the "manufactured" date isn't until four month later! HOW?? WHY??
Great channel , most of the car shows are staged , I'm in to vw and once built a buggy always remember the guy who bought the buggy was called tobin ,which I thought was an unusual name , and then caught the credits at the end and one of the production team was called tobin that's when I clicked to these shows are staged top gear jaunts, even Bruce crompton military show and others just make good TV, we always joke that Mike brewer has done time for impersonating a second hand car dealer ,
@oscarsgarage447 I'm really curious about a silver Mazda RX-7 that they did in season 11 episode 3. They threw on some hideous wheels to the car and applied some controversial ugly snakeskin vinyls 🤢🤮. I guess it was a trend at the time 😅
Good digging on this one!
There are lies, damned lies and then there’s television.

Best thing I liked about series 2 and series 3 the back Ground music.
I love your Detective work on these cars really fascinating insight into the cars background and where it ended up. Great video Again Oscar
Thanks for that, makes it worthwhile!

Mike had a car dealership in Sheffield and a buying service in Chesterfield. Some lads from work met him in Warwickshire and said he's a nice bloke.

Good spot that one, I will check that out. Great timing as that is coming up in a couple of weeks.
Glad you spotted the MR2 wing had been painted I remember at the time thinking there’s no way you find a freshly painted red wing at the scrappy 🤣
My thoughts exactly, I thought what was the chance of getting the same color parts
I Thought this is a bit of a con job
Great channel, really interesting. Thank you 🙏
Glad you enjoy it!
Great upload, all very interesting and as you say,you cant believe all that you see on tv.look forward to next time.
Thanks! I loved Wheeler Dealers especially with Edd, and just find these back stories really interesting.

I noticed on the MGB build, nice refurbished wheels with manky rusty wheel nuts !
I did mention Edd's rusty nuts!
I bet there is tons of hidden costs and expenses they don't let on.

@@oscarsgarage447 Theres information on the Corvette if you Google the Number plate
How can the current owner of the MG have had it since 2008 if it was stolen (and disappeared) in 2010?! 😮
I might have an update coming up on this one...
Remember they make the money from selling the show not the car.
Of course... selling the cars is secondary, and lets be honest the amount they made from selling cars in early series wouldn't keep them in tea and biscuits!
@@oscarsgarage447 I expect Mike likes biscuits a lot. Ant certainly did.
@@ianmontgomery7534Mike has deffo consumed a biscuit or two since 2004
ISTR Mike also struck it lucky finding some parts in the right colour, in decent condition, for that Porsche 924 from ep 1 in a scrappie!
Close, it was an MR2. We covered that in an earlier video.
By the way, where is Dick now? Quite liked him but wasn't on many of the episodes. I know Paul (who some say did most of the work) still works with Edd.
I can find a few cars, think finding Dick might be a challenge too far!
I am a supplier to Just Kampers and had a conversation with them a couple of years ago and they told me ed rented part of the building some years ago
Thanks, at least it proves I was on the right lines!
Hi, believe on TV, OR RUclips,, lol only jokin'. Many thanks very interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Jay Leno said about these sort of programmes you cant restore a car in a few days , it takes years .
Remember the wing show , Found a perfect wing with exactly the right colour and condition 😂
If you watch to the end of this video you will see there is some background to that.
The original beetle floor pan got pulled out of the skip & sold, so probably got built into another car. It wasn't that bad, there was no time to shorten it.
The Graphic designer for the show wanted a SWB buggy, so it was built for him.
Interesting!
Just campers are still there thay fitted a night heater in my van last week
Looks suspiciously like the one that Henry Cole and Fuzz Townsend purchased and flipped on Shed & Buried recently.🤨
I remember edd found 6 cars in 2008 he went and met the owner and filmed it bit off an idea
6 of the previous show cars?

Shame they couldn't have found a fully painted set of wings in a scrap yard for the capri
A bit like the MR2 you mean.... :-)

To be fair the information back in those days was no where near as accurate as we have now.
