Mega Man Zero: Boss Strategy Guide - Final Boss

  • Mega Man Zero, a guide for how to beat the final boss (Copy X & Seraph X) with optimal strategies.
Copy X at his core is a fragile boss, though can be a bit tricky to figure out how to take advantage of that. Your best bet is to corner him into your most powerful combos, though you must lure him there in order to take full advantage of optimal combos. Copy X's behavioral patterns are randomized (just like every other boss). The only conceivable way to have him behave the way you want is to track every movement throughout his stage, and move with consistency every time. Kicking dust from dashing, buster shots hitting walls and wall kicking all affect the RNG, and since RNG determines Copy X's patterns, you'll have to choreograph EVERY movement, from your strategies to bosses, to making sure don't perform unnecessary actions that affect the random number table (which you can't see in-game).
So, unless you're a speedrunner who's had tons of practice, do NOT try to bank on RNG manipulation - it'll only make things frustrating. Instead, focus on trapping him in the corner with methods described in the video, and two optimal combos will make short work of him in two cycles. Let's start with the more easier one: shield boomerang loop with Z-Saber. Hold the shield up, then time your single saber slashes after one another, when he's vulnerable. There's a degree of timing to this, but seek the Zero series tech guide for more info (linked below). The next combo is more stylish, but will also shave off just about half of his HP. The combo is as follows:
Double Slash (make sure the first hit does not flinch him) - Charged Triple Rod (start charging the Z-Saber now) - Double poke diagonally with Triple Rod - Charged Z-Saber. This combo only works if you have Z-Saber leveled up enough to gain the quick charge ability. Technically, this combo breaks the "six flinch hit rule" because the Triple Rod is actually only flinching him twice (playing the video at slow speed will show this). First hit flinches, second doesn't, then third hit flinches again.
If you're forced into a situation where you're afraid to be too aggressive, then here's how to dodge his attacks when he's switching elements:
Fire element: This is meant to scare you into running away, but a simple jump over it will make this trivial. If he shoots it airborne, the same strategy applies. Do not let this frighten you. Be bold and use this as an opportunity to hit him with a charge attack.
Ice Element: One of the harder ones to dodge. Shotgun Ice will cause a spread shot, so you need to pay attention to the gaps it has. If you stand too close to the collision point of the ice, you're more or less guaranteed to take the blow. Space yourself as far away as you can from the collision point, and jump through the gaps. If he traps you in the corner, dash or jump over him before he fires the Shotgun Ice.
Thunder Element: A bit tricky, but if you're paying attention, avoiding this is self-explanatory. Don't get greedy with hits while it's following you. Sneak a few hits in, then flee from it.
His charged attack variants aren't all that special. They all have sizable gaps that can be taken advantage of, and can safely nestle yourself between those safe spots. Shotgun Ice charge, just jump over X and that's an easy evasion.
Seraph X doesn't require any more addition info than what was already presented in the video, other than the fact that he's weak to the ice elemental chip. Credit to ThantosZero for pointing this out.

I think Copy X's first form is a stroke of genius when it comes to gameplay and story integration. Copy X fights like a total amateur, and completely opposite to X himself.
His attacks look intimidating because he as a lot of different projectiles but often standing in front of him and reacting to his attacks is the easiest way to dodge him, meanwhile his attacks look similar to some of X's own from his series, but he totally uses them in the weakest and most straight-forward ways possible meaning that he's incredibly easy to read. For how often he charges you, it's almost as if he forgets that his buster is a long-ranged weapon which makes sense since he himself has never been in combat to the extent X has.
Meanwhile, how do most people play X in his series? He's precise, careful, his movement optimized and he's incredibly accurate. X plays carefully and is best when he is dancing around and away from his foes, opposite to Zero. Basically, every thing Copy X doesn't do in his boss fight.
When Zero calls Copy X weak, he isn't just saying he doesn't compare to X's power, he's also calling him a total pushover in comparison to the journey he's taken in-game.
For taking on the Neo Arcadian army, the Four Guardians, and experimental weapons designed to protect Neo Arcadia itself, Copy X must have been a nice break for Zero.

Copy X is proof positive that clones will lose something in translation. Unfortunately for him, he lost everything that made X the dangerous martial pacifist he is.

    • @YuriNoel7
      @YuriNoel7 4 года назад +29

Heartnet May I also like to add that his special weapons feel like bootlegged versions of the original special weapons X had.
His electric special weapon is like Electric Spark but moves slower, charged attack is similar to the charge attack of Triad Thunder
His fire special attack is like Fire Wave except it shoots out only one wave instead of it being a continuous flamethrower, charged attack is also like Fire Wave but he fires it upwards instead
Ice special attack is Shotgun Ice, this is actually the only special weapon that completely functions the same way it did in the X series meaning this is the only thing Copy X was able to replicate perfectly. His charged attack (him firing off a small cone of ice) of it however is completely original to him as no Ice special weapon in the X series is like it.
Also in the Megaman Zero drama CD he did use his buster in his regular form against Zero but Zero commented on how weak the shot felt suggesting that Copy X is indeed far weaker then X in terms of combat capabilities.

Let's also not forget that X is far more cunning than Copy X.
Its pretty possible that X even after his series but before the Zero series and Elf Wars is so powerful that he doesn't need to rely on his armors anymore, not even using his ultimate armor.
Possibly even mastered Zero's Z saber.

nice! i remember a few years ago i did Copy X with no charging and saber-only. it's pretty friggin brutal on the 2nd form his hurtbox is at just the point where you get hurt trying to jump slash him from too close, and if you're slightly too far it just doesn't hit, so there's this super precise place you *have* to hit him from. think my attempt of it is like the first video i ever uploaded.
also a big thing to remember regarding the 2nd form's halo rings are the sound. the instant you hear the sound of the halo forming, they've locked onto your location. so the easiest way to avoid them is
    -listen for two halo sounds
    -move forward an inch
    repeat.
especially important for his halo+pillar attack

It locks in the general direction you're in. If you're anywhere from left to right, that's what hand he'll fire from first. If you're jumping on the platforms, he will lock onto you further above. This is backed by the fact that the wave formation's initial shots travel further up (shown in one of the repeat clips in the video), and end somewhere in the middle of the screen. When you're on ground level, the lasers cover the whole stage, and forces you to the edge.

    • @MagnusZero

It's really just there to challenge players who know the games well enough to beat it with bare minimum resources. Doesn't excuse stripping away 90% of what made Zero series combat fun, however. ZX did their hard modes much better. Regardless, if you're good enough, running stages in hard mode can still be very speedy and action-packed.
