As a flute performer for 6 years,I can say it's impossible because the real technique takes days and months of practise but you did fairly well in an hour.

As a flutist myself, I am very proud of you for being able to even make a sound within an hour.
He's pretty decent for a beginner. Having him learn in an hour is definitely more 'hard mode' as it takes a lot longer to learn just how to position your mouth over the hole properly to get a sound.
I've been playing for over 5 years and I didn't even realise how many 'dirty' puns you could make about the instrument.

@@michpfeffer1197 Even then your notes probably don’t come out right, it depends on where you got it and the price. I can tell you personally that Amazon flutes won’t work as well as a concert flute bought from a instrument manufacturer. But this isn’t to bash you, but if you plan on continuing the flute you’ll probably have to change the flute eventually either because of your notes not coming out correctly or you get to the point where you need the flute that is longer than the f concert flute. This is just a suggestion if you plan on continuing the flute, you don’t have to listen to me this is just my personal thoughts but if you do decide to buy from a instrument manufacturer, Jupiter and Yamaha have great f concert flutes!

Im a flute player myself and for this being your first time even touching a flute you did amazing. I would say keep practicing though if yiu want to get better and remember when you are articulating say the word "to" instead of breathing at every note its an easier way to keep your breath steady.

I disagree with the quality of the flute. I have this flute and after just half of a year, it broke. I’m not rough with it, it was just poor quality. It’s absolutely terrible for beginners as well. Blowing into the mouth hole is just a bad feeling. My Eb and my A sound the same on it.
As a flute player, I loved this video. It was so funny to see how he played and have me yelling at my phone that what he was doing was wrong, it made me laugh my butt off. I love this idea of singers who don’t know how to play instruments. Made my day Joel, definitely made my day!

In the beginning from what I learned about flute in band before I switched to saxaphone is that when making sounds sound non slurred you gotta bake that "hot or hut" sound with the tounge touching the roof of your mouth.
That is the same video I watched to start off playing the flute. I only just finished beginning band last year, but I’m really excited to learn more.

For only learning in an hour and having distracting challenges thrown at you, you did really good! I’ve been playing flute since I was 11 years old and I remember learning so much of this over weeks in my hour long school band class. The first song we played was ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb” as it encompassed everything we had learned at that point and that was at the end of September. So great job on accomplishing so much so quickly! Also I love the colorful flute! I wish they had had those when I was growing up. My flute is just a silver one that my grandparents bought for me.

First off, I appreciate the fact that you guys called it a mythical instrument. Second, I've played the flute for 7 years and it is 100% a hard instrument to play. (Joel did better than I did the first time I tried to play.) Honestly, I think you should keep playing, just tweak your embouchure and you'll be golden.

This is why a flute is one of the hardest woodwinds to play (especially low notes for me at least) 1. The fact he probably doesn't even have the flute put together right 2. Hes probably blowing different temperature air through the flute doesn't help him play 3. Him hiking it with one hand gives me anxiety 4. The fact he doesn't have his fingers in the right places 5. He doesn't know how to read notes 6. Him trying to trill isn't working quite right 7. He's not blowing enough air through the flute 8. He doesn't have a solid sound 9. He surprisingly didn't get light headed 10. He doesn't know the difference between notes

Every instrument is hard and you were really good for only one hour of practise !
I'm a clarinetist and I know how difficult it is to have a great sound. And even if you know how to blow in your instrument, you need enough strength in your lung to maintain the right blow. One of the exercices I had to do was to maintain as long as possible an A5 paper on a wall just by blowing on it. Maybe this will be easier for you because you are a singer, but for most of people exeed 3 seconds is hard.
PS : I was one of the few people which have a real sound the very first time I blew in a clarinet, and I'm proud of this.

I have played the flute for 6 years of my life and I can tell you that learning what your embrasure is supposed to be to actually make a sound can be really hard especially for only an hour. lol
we did just the headjoint for like 2 months I think, maybe more, because my teacher refused to even mention the rest of the flute before we had perfect sound lol
