my first and only bunny sasha would be 13 years old this year, but she passed away at 7 because of stomach cancer 💔
earlier in that year, i noticed she wasn’t as active but everything else was healthy! the vet didn’t check her properly and said she’s just getting old.
then in september she suddenly stopped eating and when we took her to the vet, they found she had the cancer. we had to put her down 💔
she was a beautiful bunny 💜💖

This is amazing. I had a Netherland Dwarf that lived 13 years. I spoiled him intensely and never left town without him, he always stayed with me in hotels. He did not even die of natural causes, it was because of a hairball. Even though I did measures to prevent hairballs. He died after the surgery to remove it. I was devastated. But I am so happy for this bunny and his owner.

Cataracts are quite common in older bunnies and pose NO problem, with one caveat: you MUST not rearrange their living space. I have had blind bunnies, and they can navigate perfectly by scent, touch and remembering where things are.

    • @Butterrcuppp
      @Butterrcuppp 11 дней назад

@@CrittersandPals thank you so much 🩷 we actually got him from a child who was giving him away for free. I reached out to her on her online ad to advise the dangers of giving away pets for free, and she was such a lovely person that she changed her ad immediately to charge $50.00 for him. I mentioned that he looked pretty old, she said he’s at least 6 years old. We talked a little more and I found out this was her mother’s friends rabbit who could no longer take care of it. This little girl took him in, and was caring for him the best she could but since she was so young, she made a very mature decision to rehome him. She was able to reach out to her mom’s friend to find out that the little guy was 12 years old!! Whether or not this is accurate, I won’t know, however based on his look and mannerisms, we think it to be correct. We were also told he was neutered which he was, so we do think the age to be mostly correct. Basically when we found out his age was when we decided we wanted to take him in.
We got to spend a wonderful 4 additional years with Tofu, and he was so full of joy every single day that he was with us. ❤️

They didn't specifically go into detail about it, but for anyone wondering:
one of the biggest reasons for spaying/neutering bunnies, y'know aside from avoiding accidental litters, is that bunnies get horrifying reproductive cancers when they're not fixed. And yes, it does affect both male and female bunnies.
So like Bob Barker said - Spay and Neuter Your Pets!
I hope Doc continues to live a wonderful life over there for years to come, just him, his humans, and his big womens. ♥️

18 years old. That is impressive. My Hotot Coney passed away at 13 due to snuffles. She wouldn't give up. We had to put her to sleep because she was uncomfortable and struggled to breathe. It was heartbreaking, I am thankful for the 13 years I had with her. I raised her at 3 weeks old.

Been saving bunnies for 35 years. Always have 2, male & female, spayed & neutered, from local shelter. Indoors in large puppy pen. Lots of love. When one passes I get another right away. Many at shelter. Bond quickly. Groom & cuddle a lot. One bunny, Buster, was around 14. Full grown from shelter, 1-2 years when adopted, stray. Had for 12 years. Small lop. Wonderful creatures. All love bananas, parsley, cilantro, carrots & carrot tops. Love them all.

Thank you for introducing us to Doc and Sarah! It was great seeing another rabbit that's this ancient and also in mostly great shape. Love love love these super seniors. I have an almost 17 year old, Sydney, and it sounds like Syd and Doc are VERY similar old men personality wise. Gotta laugh at these old buns and their young wives! Like Doc, Syd takes VERY good care of his young wife. They are both completely free roam in the house, although only Duchess takes advantage of the other floors of the house.
I call this period of a rabbit's life "whisky and cigar time". There's no limit on treats whatsoever. Nor are there rules! Syd *used* to be litter trained, but in the past year or so he's slowly lost the desire to use it. He is perfectly capable of chasing his wife into the box, or going to get a favorite food. We're just not doing the potty anymore, I guess, and at this age it's hard to be mad. Every day with them is a gift.
I really do believe it's just a genetic lottery. There is nothing different I've done with Sydney than the other dozen or so buns over my life, and they have all lived between 6 and 12 years. Same diet, same environment, same vet care.
Sarah and Doc, wishing you both as much time together as he wants to hang around happy and healthy.
Lorelei, you and Lennon have been on our minds in this house since your last video! Sending all the love and good vibes in the world from Pennsylvania.

    Amazing, 18 years old bunny!
Of course he's very well taken care.
As a rabbit specialist, myself, I'd say carrots should be given as a treat, because it has too much sugar.
Baby bunnies eat alfalfa and adults bunnies ear Thimoty hay. Bunnies diet should be 30% pellets (with no crystallized fruits) and 70% hay.

The first two sisters we took from a rescue had a mum bun that must have been 3-4 times as big as their dad, it's hard to fathom how the logistics even worked for their creation 😅

That's amazing! My lionhead dwarf is 10 and 1/2 which is older than they're predicted to live (it's usually 8 years) he's definitely in his very last years he's stiff with artritis and falls down occasionally as his back legs don't work too well anymore... but on meds and still a lover bug. As long as he's still happy and eating we'll still keep going

My little Netherland Dwarf made it to 14.5 years old. The last 6 months he could only lay on his side but he loved to be picked up and helped to go to the bathroom and cleaned up and groomed. I miss that little guy Whistler.

I’m typing this on here for advice, anyone please. I’m in a great deal of tears.
I have 3 bunnies 2 girls and 1 boy. A couple of weeks ago we had to rush them inside due to heat stroke. One of the girls was gasping and panting and drooling along with the boy. She however was swaying her head side to side. We got them regulated we noticed the girl was coughing a lot prior to this but much more now. The other girl was pregnant (accidentally) and lost her babies. The two girls are a bonded pair they cuddled and groomed and played together. I went out there this morning and they were running and playing in there large walk-in pen. I went about my day and it was around 6 pm when my mom rushed in and told me to drop everything because my bunny had died. I rush out there and started chest compressions after looking her over. Her mouth was open and her eyes were no longer blue and red but black. I even tried standing her up to see if she was tranced. Her body was warm and floppy but no life. I held her and balled im balling still as I type this. Her floppy body became stiff as the time passed. I did cut some of her hair for keepsake. Her sister, her best friend was hysterical she was running and freaking out. She was also very aggressive. She is now alone. She and her sister have been together their whole lives. They are literally littermates. They are both only 1 1/2 years old. This bunny, this pet, this family member died so suddenly. Just randomly. She died right before my mom went and checked on them. She wasn’t showing any signs of Illness sense putting her back outside. I didn’t hear any more coughing. I didn’t see any drooling or lethargy, she was perfect. Im so sick to my stomach I miss her so much, she was the sweetest bunny ever. She let me brush her and trim her nails. She was always cuddling with her sister. Which worries me. Will her sister be okay alone? How do I help her cope? I have 2 bunnies that are alone now. Any idea what could have happened? Will my other bunnies drop dead?
Disclaimer before you get onto me and try to educate me about outside bunnies let me share my perspective
I have watched Lennon the bunny for years, I have researched bunnies for years. I had my own ethical guidelines. No outdoor bunnies. No hutches. No breeding. All of it. However we moved to a family members farm. For Christmas I had begged for bunnies but I wasn’t thinking about their lifestyle. My relatives had many many bunnies so my family member I lived with got 2 girl bunnies for me. They lived in a hutch. Turns out we got one who was pregnant and she gave birth and the babies instantly died due to the blizzard. My mom put together a rabbit run 12x12 feet. Couldn’t walk in it though. I was really wanting a holland lop and I found a good deal. Again not thinking about placements I got a boy bunny. He lived in a hutch for a while. Time went on and we decided to post them to sell them. So we did. Then we changed our minds. We buaght a huge walk in pen. As soon as it was set up someone texted us about buying the two girls, so we let them say goodbye to the boy bunny… (dumb) she then got pregnant so it was an accident. The lady that was going to adopt them ghosted us. So we finsihed the pen and let them live in their. I ran out there one day and they had a heatstroke so I brought them in. They stayed in for a week. The bunny girl never had her babies but she did pull a lot of hair and nest. So the heat made her miscarry. They were full term. So her second litter gone. I was going to keep them inside but they were in dog crates so I put them back outside so they can run in their pen. With the heatstroke and upcoming move we decided to repost them to be adopted as indoor pet only bunnies. The girls were supposed to go together and yet they will ever see eachother again.

I know so many bunnies die in the world and you don’t know mine. But I loved her. I loved her so much. I still loved her. Any advice or answers would be appreciated. I can’t stop crying. I wish I knew what was wrong.

She wasn’t even 2 years old yet. She was still a young bunny. I wanted to watch her grow old and be there when she dies. But I didn’t want her life to get cut short. Even tho I wasn’t going to keep her she should have went to live with someone else and her sister and they would have been apart of someone’s family. She would have gotten fresh fruits and veggies and toys. Everything I couldn’t give her.

Wow! I would have loved to have my buns live to be 18 years old. My last 3 buns lived to be 11 1/2, 11 1/2 and 12 1/2. I miss them so. 😪 I now have 2 buns (mother and son) who are 3 and 4 now. Great video, thanks so much.
