Hi there! I started House Rabbits for Beginners almost 2 years ago and we’re more than happy to advise people starting their bunny journey. We do our best to provide a judgement free zone and have great resources for people as well. Thank you Lennon for being the reason I started it.
hey, I joined house Rabbits for beginners and it really helped me we got a better Space for him (an x-pen) and I let him out everyday and he is a lot happier!
It’s 6am and my rabbit has been free roam 24/7 since he was 7 weeks, he’s almost 3 years old now, he’s in my bed, we were cuddling and watching this then he got mad that I wouldn’t let him eat my phone charger so I’m getting the booty treatment now😂 I’m very proud to say that I’ve inspired my friends with bunnies to free roam, when they met my bunny they always ask “how is he so nice? My bunny never wants to cuddle or be pet for a long time” and I swear it’s because of free roaming. They feel like an equal and they can do their own thing when they want and if they feel like spending time with you they can come to you whenever. It’s hard if they’re in a cage because everyone wants to play with their bunny when they let them have roaming time but if they’re cooped up most of the time when they’re out they just want to do their own thing
@@saplingsofsweven1125 Mine was doing that for the first few days that I got her so I would watch her like a hawk and when she started to lift her tail I would immediately scoop her up and put her in the litter box so she knew that it wasn't okay and then I'd immediately sanitize the area just in case anything got on the floor or wherever. They will do it either because of hormones or a change in the house like a new pet or sometimes if they have enough room you just need more than one litter box. Also bunnies are very clean creatures so make sure you're changing the litter at least every other day but don't do it too much or else they might get confused and not know where to go to the bathroom. Let them leave their pee scent in there but make sure the litter is changed so nothing sticks to them and so they don't have to lay in their own poo.
When i was younger, i always wanted a rabbit, but i hated the idea of leaving them outside in the cold and rain (from UK here). I randomly stumbled across your videos a few weeks ago, and i honestly never knew they could be indoor pets, or just how loving they are. I was always taught they live in a hutch and have basically no personality. I'm now looking into getting myself a house bunny in the future! I've had a bit of a tricky go with my rabbit. I inheritated my rabbit from my baby sister who got tired of him. So I can't say enough how important it is to realize how long rabbits can live. There’s a happy medium between leaving the bunny in a playpen and letting them free roam all over the house. You can choose a room and let them free roam in there only. My bunny 🐰 has my office and the bathroom connected to it. She is super happy having her own space and being away from my dogs. Also I work from home, so I’m with her almost all day. Another tip: Bathroom mats. My bunny looooves a soft bathroom mat and they are super affordable. She especially loves memory foam ones from Walmart. Lol Bunnies are honestly so chill and low maintenance. Give them a piece of your fruit and let them play with a cardboard box, pet them and give them love and they’re happy as can be. ❤❤❤❤

I was new to bunny owning and we didn’t get him a friend because of our experience level with rabbits, but my brother sent me a flyer for baby bunnies that needed a new home as a joke, and now I guess we are picking one up tomorrow
My freeroam bunny absolutely loves her digging box filled with lightly moist play sand. Ontop of the fun and exercise she has in there, it also helps to keep her nails trimmed. I have her for almost half a year now and occasionally check on them (she absolutely hates having her feet touched). But lucky for both of us, nailclipping has not been needed yet.
I am Free Roaming my Bunny in my Room, and she get so excited all the time doing binkies and zoomies it's so adorable, also thanks for making videos like these because they are always useful even if it is just reminding us to do things but you also have a lot of usful info which teaches us more then we know or think we know.
I would also suggest, pet insurance. Its a life saver. My rabbit had a biopsy, then medication afterwards, and it was a lot of money, but having insurance towards that was a peace of mind. Its a payment a month, but when something happens to your pet, you know they're covered. :)
This has been such an amazing starting point for doing more research! I’ve previously owned rodents so I initially assumed the care was similar but this video has given me so much good information on how to care for them! After watching your channel - I got the confidence to foster bunnies this holiday. Excited to be a safe a cozy home in their transition to their forever!
Im a kid getting a rabbit for my bday and im envy over my pets my sister and mom stole their attention so having a new compannion means a lot to me you helped me prepare tysm
This girl that was in my class last year got a rabbit, and she said she is getting a rabbit and I told her to do research before getting a rabbit and she said ok but, she showed me her cage and her care and stuff… she clearly didn’t do her research 😶. I told her multiple times her care isn’t right and she needs to get a large Xpen (she had the smallest cage.) and her excuses were “I have 2 cats” and “I don’t have enough space for one”.. I kept telling her so many times and she didn’t listen. She had a salt lick, water bottle, bad toys, tiny hay rack, etc. I tried telling her all of those stuff was bad and she didn’t listen.
I dream about my bunnies all the time and I miss them so! My first bunny was a little angel and she was so soft and cute. My rex rabbit was BEAUTIFUL! I love rabbit fur, it's so soft and clean and smells nice. My rabbit used to eat and drink out my hands! She used to snuggle up to me in my bed and lick the tears off my face when I was sad! I have seen a rabbit sleeping in my bed looking so content and happy. She lived until she was 8 and was only supposed to last until she was 4-6 years old!!!! Bunnies are not just pets, their a best friend too!
Very useful tips even for me as a 1 year bunny owner! My bunny has a water bottle in his pen over his litter box and a bowl outside because he likes to drink for some reason in the litter box. Great video!
Crazy that a bunny has to be spayed or neutered to be litter box trained I feel like I got lucky with my bunny Oreo! I rescued him recently made a playpen which he loves and just recently let him free roam but he only wants to use his litter box! I used all of Lorelei's advise! 😀
It's also a good idea to neuter because a neutered bun tends to live longer as the risk of reproductive cancer is much much lower, inside rabbits who have been neutered live years longer on average than an unneutered outside bunny would
@@jackwhitbread4583 oh for sure tbh I just recently rescued him but my vet told me to let him get used to the environment and bond with him first I'm actually planning of getting him neutered in the next couple of months someone abandoned him and it took me 2 months to gain some of his trust until he decided to come home with me!
My two buns both were litter trained without being spayed or neutered but it does help with territorial behavior. I have yet to be able to get my current bunny neutered. It's a prey animal behavior.
I had rabbits before it was possible to find a rabbit-savvy vet. I litter box trained one male and two females, non neutered. It is possible! The male didn't pee anywhere else either, no spraying
@jackwhitbread4583 ive had my bunny for 12 years almost and i got recconmended by my vet when i first got him to not neuter him because hes a neverland dwarf. Then again it was 11 years ago. Hes clearly too old now but for the most part hes very chill and is litter trained. Just its not always possible but I to but i agree is it is they should be especially when with other rabbits
The shorter xpens are great for bunny proofing the walls, baseboards and cords. Just line the walls with them if you have a bunny who thinks the plastic corner and cord protectors are a great toy. Might not look great but I would rather protect the hard surfaces from chewing.
I can't agree with you more. And it's good timing, there are such good sales right now. Knowing where to go after vet hours is so important, unfortunately in my city there's only one emergency vet, but she at least will see buns. Day to day we go to vet that is our neighbour, and she's wonderful, once she waited for us after her hours, because I panicked a bit. And he tolerates her, so we have a success. And she always gives him compliments and is petting him. Good vet is really important.
All of these are very helpful ❤ one thing I would add that is not really an essential but my bunny loves is a tunnel. You can get like a cat tunnel from Target and my bunny loves to hop through it and sleep in it :)
In the buying stage for my bun buns so this video is super helpful. I probably over bought on supplies. Bought them this cute strawberry hay feeder and they hardly use it so I diyed some from square tissue boxes (removed the clear plastic) hoping the bigger opening might entice them to use it and of course they prefer it.
Just what I needed! As if you were reading my mind, I was hoping for an updated video yesterday on how to freeroom your rabbit and everything you need to do this. 😊
Great video. Long time bunny owner. Thanks for putting great information out there. A bunny community made such a difference in my rabbit's life. It can save years worth of trying to learn things. ❤ Totally agree: love and patience are most important, besides the right hat, food and bunny proofing. Happy bunny life everyone. ♥️🐰♥️
I’ve been binge watching your videos for 2 weeks 🥺 I have been hoarding informations bc I’ve always loved bunnies, they’re such amazing animals so if I ever get one I want to give the little guy the best life ! 🥺 Your videos are so helpful !! ❤
i am a new Pet bunny owner and found this video, thank goodness. i have seen nothing but awful meat rabbit videos which sicken me. i have taken your advice and chose an exercise pen instead of a cage. i have learned so much from you. I needed this video. thank you
My rabbit Clover LOVES chewing on branches; eating the leaves off of them, then the bark, snapping them into pieces. I get branches from friends’ yards or gardens I volunteer in, NOT from roadsides, or places where pesticides are used. Branches I have given her: rose, blackberry, raspberry, salmon berry, apple, pineapple sage, forsythia, and black poplar. I give her about one branch a day with about 20 on it.
Patience and love 👍💕😊 Also - I've had my buns for about 3 years now and I hadn't considered getting involved in local bun groups for support, vet or pet sitter referrals. Great advice, thank you!!
Great video, especially for all the beginners out ther!! I was one of the new generation of bunny owners who learned proper bunny care the first time bc ur videos were my first lessons on bunny care so thank u!!! The message is resonating with bunny owners everywhere and we r better for it 💜
For my bunny a leash is essential because I take him outside several times a week. He enjoys so much to roam around in the forrest or near by park. I just have an eye out for dogs unleashed.
In our parks in Denmark all dogs have a leash. I just go to remoter areas of the park and if a dog comes our way I always pick up my rabbit and pass by. The forrest is always good too. Eventhough it´s not mainstreamto take out your rabbit it´s natural for bunnies to move and run and need to get all the smells from nature and dig. Not all rabbits have the same energy of course. @@Bombabingbong66
Thank u so much this really helped my family and I We r getting a bunny soon and need to know what it needs and how to take care of it. Again thank you for making this video
We keep our home pretty temp regulated. I can’t do heating pads I do not at all trust them. Just for fire reasons. Thanks for sharing everything on here!!!! Love them all and appreciate it
Ahhh on thanksgiving eve one of my rabbits went into stasis! It was our first time experiencing it. No local vets were open so we went to one in Thousand Oaks that’s 26 miles away from us. We were there from 11PM-4:30AM. The vet said the baby gas drops are a hit or miss but it’s still worth a shot so it could buy time as you said Lorelei. I will definitely be looking into the hair ball medication because they shed horribly & won’t let me groom them so I have to take them to a groomer monthly😅
The gas drops work when you first notice no eating or pooping. My neighbor who has 3 therapy bunnies she uses with kids came over and gave my foster bunny some. He was better within a half hour. Seems I gave him more greens than he could handle and got gas. These videos are so helpful. I'm a dog mama but haven't had a bunny before.
I find that ex pens can sometimes be pricey and not be enough space. So having to buy two can be an issue for some people. But if you have old cages for small animals you can actually take them apart and use zip ties to put them together as a custom ex pen to what ever size you want. I use to have a bunch of extra cages, i didnt really use them but i kept buying them at yardsales and thrift stores or finding them in people trash occasionally. So i decided to clean them as best i could, and take them apart to make a pen that is decent size.
I have a new Facebook friend who turned me on to some of your videos, now I have seen your videos before and I always enjoyed it! But this time I subscribed, and I pressed my notification bell. In this video, I'd say about 90%, if not a little more of what you talked about I've always had for my rabbits, now I haven't had a bunny in about 3 years, and my only biggest problem is the fact that I have to Uber wherever I go. So I really have to research a good rabbit specialist in the Tampa Bay area. Of course I'll reach out to Tampa house rabbit society in Tampa. I may be getting a bunny in a few months, so I'm going to continue watching your channel. Thank you very much for being who You are! I saw the video today of you helping that Homeless lady in her car, oh my God it brought me to tears!
@@bnnyhlp952 I am only going to get one bunny, her name is penelope. My girlfriend who lives in Orlando Florida, I live in Tampa Florida is going to let me have my bunny in January or February. She's about 7 or 8 years old estimated by a veterinarian, she has mega colon so she could not be spayed. But she is a very good little girl and uses her litter box every time!
Thank you the video. I’ve been watching for a while so most of these tips felt familiar. Can you highlight more on cleaning products. I’m so used to strong smelling products like Clorox, Fabuloso, Glide, and Lysol when it comes to cleaning my home. Any recommendations on what I should be using instead when having a bunny?
I love what you have to say about bunny proofing - makes me laugh out loud because I know it works for almost every bun, but my Ziggy Bundust laughs in the face of bunny proofing! There's not a baby gate he can't chew or squeeze through. There's not an x pen he can't knock over. There's no flex tubing he can't chew through! But he's a dang champ with his litterbox, at least when he's not dumping it out on the floor🤣 Any advice for dealing with high energy brat buns? He's a Dutch/Silver Marten/New Zealand mix if it helps to know. Just under a year and a half old.
Hello from Oxford UK 🇬🇧 I have 3 indoor girls who have a 5 meter by 3 meter set up and 3 floors so if they want they look out of the window 🪟 I am spreading the message and love small pet select UK - bunnies don’t belong in cages !!!! ❤
If u have a hanging hay feeder I use a shoe tray from Walmart and it works great for hay, pellets even if they spill water it will be easier to clean u can rinse it off in a shower or bath
Hello!!! Just wanted to thank you for all your videos, i have 2 bunnies "Milk and Coffee ( the are long eared bunnies) ", your videos have helped me a lot, there 6 months old, i got them at 3 months, and your videos have helped me a lot, right now they are really small so the are living in a cage, but i am gonna buy a play pen and they are gonna be free roaming, with lots of toys, thanks again, I love Lennon!!!
I highly recommend if you have apple trees or know someone who does, get branches, 1/2 inch in diameter or less are great. You can give them any size, but the smaller branches have the smooth tender bark, and usually have more leaves. I cut a bunch and put them in a vase or bag in crisper. I cut a 6-8 inch piece, depending on how many leaves are on it. The bun loves it, the morning, after work, and before bed. During the winter he eats all the bark on the branches.
What treats are good for baby bunnies or what age do you recommend to start treats for bunnies? Mine is 7 wk old Netherland Dwarf. I raised them years ago in 80s...but so much has changed.
How does this video have 14 likes and 1 view? Anyway thank you so much for all the help! You do an amazing job with giving us information about our fluffy bun buns. Haven't seen the whole thing, but I definitely will
Hi, I am here to thank you, you were an amazing youtuber when I first got my bunny, he was the cutest little thing, sadly we had to travel and give him back, but I still watch your videos, so thank you ❤
i am so grateful for this video. i have learned so much. the awful videos i have seen with rabbits in a small wire cage outside walking on hard wire flooring because they are meat rabbits, which i have never heard of until now, is devastating. i rescued this rabbit and it is so smart. how can i tell if it is spayed?
My favourite rabbit purchase is a self filling water bowl/fountain. I still empty and rinse and refill same as a normal bowl but it’s impossible for my bun to knock over and the water container on top comes off so if you have to go anywhere you can take a giant container of water with you and attach to the bowl when you need to, ideal for travel. Also reassuring at night I used to worry she might knock her bowl over and have no water at night or she might drink it all while I’m not awake or at home but now I know she will always have full fresh water and it will fill her bowl up as she drinks it
If you look up “pet water dispenser” you can find loads and they’re pretty affordable, plus makes it look like your bun works 9-5 in an office and is just hanging out by the water cooler
I used to have a silver marten rabbit, but even now, I still like learning about rabbits, and I sometimes fantasise about buying rabbit gear, ready for the day when, who knows! I might adopt a rabbit.
great video!!! im going to check your other videos. i want samples of bunny pens, what to place in them, a set up guide. love this one. Super Thanks!!!
OMG they do metal chargers now?! - I'm so getting that - its perfect and looks kinda cool too. Hopefully they also sell these kind of things in the UK too :)
Pet medical insurance is super underrated. It's usually cheap and some insurance companies cover 90% of your bill. There are many insurance plans that cover exotics like rabbits. Highly recommend it.
Hey Lorelei! This video has been very useful for me since it’s really given me ideas for some changes I should make to make my bunny’s life better. I have a lion head and when you talked about the grooming what kind of brush or tool would you recommend for a lionhead? I have the hair buster but I have noticed that it might pull a bit too harshly on his skin. Love you and Lennon!!
I wish I saw this video 12 years ago, we had to work all this out! Great video. We don't clip Hazel's nails, we take him to the vets to get it done, so he gets regular health check ups at the same time. Thanks Lorelei, happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you so much for the detailed explanations! I've been considering getting a bunny for a while now (greatly because you make it seem so feasible to free roam). My main worry is destructive behaviors. I love my space and my furniture. I can protect baseboards and cords, but what about rugs and furniture? Would I need to cover my lovely rug forever? Do rabbits dig through/under sofas? Do deterrent sprays work for chair legs etc?
Rabbits aren't really known for being obedient, but if you say No! enough times your rabbit will leave your rugs/carpet alone. If you provide a grass mat they might nibble that instead. My rabbits loved to eat my books :( but never chewed my furniture
I would block them from getting under a sofa- when someone sits on it they could get squashed. I never had one dig to the extent that it hurt any fabric
@@lazyhomebody1356 Thank you so much for your answer! It helps to know others' experience. From my understanding behaviors can vary a lot from on bunny to another and I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst. Is nibbling on rugs an universal? I didn't know books were on the list of things to look out for! I guess I can move my piles of books if that's ever an issue (losing corners of them would be heartbreaking too!) , but can't really do that with the rest of my furniture or the rug that is needed to protect their little paws. I plan on training as much as possible so hopefully many No! and access to lots of toys/grass mat would protect them.

This is really helpful I’m about to get a rabbit in a few weeks! Thank you Lorelei!!
You are the best RUclipsr in the whole entire universe
I'm adopting a bunny in October and I am so happy for your videos! They're helping me prepare so much!
All of these are very helpful ❤ one thing I would add that is not really an essential but my bunny loves is a tunnel. You can get like a cat tunnel from Target and my bunny loves to hop through it and sleep in it :)
yay this is perfect timing! i’m going to meet some bunnies at my local bunny rescue on december 3rd! 💕🎀🐰
Thanks for your help. I got two bunnies today. My first time owning rabbits. Happy for this video. I have learned a lot.
😊🤗💕💗❤️
In the buying stage for my bun buns so this video is super helpful. I probably over bought on supplies. Bought them this cute strawberry hay feeder and they hardly use it so I diyed some from square tissue boxes (removed the clear plastic) hoping the bigger opening might entice them to use it and of course they prefer it.
Thanks for this video! I loved it! Also could you maybe do a video of some healthy treats from Etsy shops and such? I would love that!
Just what I needed! As if you were reading my mind, I was hoping for an updated video yesterday on how to freeroom your rabbit and everything you need to do this. 😊
Happy Thanksgiving Lorelei and Lennon. Love all of your vids and you are really making a difference for bunnies.
I give her about one branch a day with about 20 on it.
i just got a bunny and her name is clover too ❤
Lorelei, thank you so much for making this video it’s so helpful and good so that’s why I am watching to help my buns when I get them!
So far this has been the best bunny information video. Thank you!!
I recently started free roaming my rabbit indoors bc of your videos. She is so much happier, and I love it!!🤍🤍🤍
Patience and love 👍💕😊 Also - I've had my buns for about 3 years now and I hadn't considered getting involved in local bun groups for support, vet or pet sitter referrals.
I would be absolutely terrified to take my rabbits outside just imagining that they will be attacked by dogs. Is your bunny not afraid outdoors?
In our parks in Denmark all dogs have a leash. I just go to remoter areas of the park and if a dog comes our way I always pick up my rabbit and pass by. The forrest is always good too. Eventhough it´s not mainstreamto take out your rabbit it´s natural for bunnies to move and run and need to get all the smells from nature and dig. Not all rabbits have the same energy of course. @@Bombabingbong66
Thank u so much this really helped my family and I We r getting a bunny soon and need to know what it needs and how to take care of it. Again thank you for making this video
Im a new bunny owner and my wife and I both looked at each other and said “wish we saw this video before” but this is a huge help! Thank you 💯
I don’t give a crap about your dumb wife
We keep our home pretty temp regulated. I can’t do heating pads I do not at all trust them. Just for fire reasons. Thanks for sharing everything on here!!!! Love them all and appreciate it
I watch you all the time with my bunny,Jasper!
We need another bunny Christmas list video!! I need some ideas on what to get my bun! I love your videos girl! 🎄❤🐇
just watched your video! I have two rabbits of my own and they're great. We actually have a water fountain for them that they LOVE.
12:35 I've been using vinegar to clean up since having a rabbit 🐇 I have a mini Rex 🤩 Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I've never had a bunny before. so I'm getting one for new years!🎉 IM SO EXCITED! so thank you for posting this video😊 i can't wait for it ❤
Hi I don't have a rabbit but I love your videos(also I've never been this early)
ive been watching you for so many years i love you and your bunny 🐰❤️
I saw the video today of you helping that Homeless lady in her car, oh my God it brought me to tears!
please don't only get one :)
All we use in our litter box is hay. We just put a little more hay on one side where our bun likes to munch. Never had a problem.
I recently started free roaming my bunny, and he loves it!
But he's a dang champ with his litterbox, at least when he's not dumping it out on the floor🤣
Any advice for dealing with high energy brat buns? He's a Dutch/Silver Marten/New Zealand mix if it helps to know. Just under a year and a half old.
Hello from Oxford UK 🇬🇧 I have 3 indoor girls who have a 5 meter by 3 meter set up and 3 floors so if they want they look out of the window 🪟 I am spreading the message and love small pet select UK - bunnies don’t belong in cages !!!! ❤
My bunny did chew through a metal cord, but now I use an organic bitter spray to protect baseboards, planters, and cords. Works really well!
This girl’s one of a kind.
You are the best. Thanks for a great video with precise information on how to take care of bunnies. Thanks
i js got my first two bunnies last night and i'm making sure everything is good for them!
Thank you so much for this list! I just took note of all of this so when I get my bunny I’m fully ready ❤ life saver
I love your videos😊
Thanks for the video. Do you know what food bowl stand you used? Looks like a good size.
Your videos have helped me so much! I’m adopting a rabbit soon and I know so much more because of your videos
my bunny loves his water dish with a fountain, it holds lots of water and keeps it fresh and moving.
I wish there were fruit trees around my house but it gets too cold around winter so there is none-
What treats are good for baby bunnies or what age do you recommend to start treats for bunnies? Mine is 7 wk old Netherland Dwarf. I raised them years ago in 80s...but so much has changed.
Omg thanks so much I’m getting a bunny in a few months and I am so excited!
How does this video have 14 likes and 1 view?
Anyway thank you so much for all the help! You do an amazing job with giving us information about our fluffy bun buns. Haven't seen the whole thing, but I definitely will
I think it because they give a like first and then you have to watch the whole video and then it will add a view
Becz it got uploaded like a few mins ago
I liked but couldn't view lost my hotspot.. 🤷
My mom just brought home a precious ruby eyes, this goes perfect!
Mine's held together with tape, so metal?? Yes!
So much to learn, I must get a first aid kit - really helpful
Before i got fluffball i watched this channel for years!
She is talking about cute bunnies but she is serious like she is giving financial advices. 😂
😂 Can’t wait to pick up my bunny!
I have been waiting for this so yeah thank you
I wish I saw this video 12 years ago, we had to work all this out! Great video. We don't clip Hazel's nails, we take him to the vets to get it done, so he gets regular health check ups at the same time. Thanks Lorelei, happy Thanksgiving!
Did you name your bunny after the hero bunny in Watership Down?
hi I love Lennon 🎉 and ofc I love u ❤
"Patience and Love" ❤️❤️
My bunny is getting spayed this Friday do you have any tips for recovery Because she can’t stay overnight I’m quite scared also happy thanksgiving 🍁
She has a few videos about spaying & neutering on her channel!
Be sure you have an emergency kit! She might not want to eat
Thank you so much! I'm fostering a bunny and know nothing so this is super helpful ❤
your videos are always so helpful! wish i knew about your channel when I first got my baby haha but always improving!
I love Lennon ❤
