I adopted 2 bunnies a few months ago, the previous owner gave us the hutch with the rabbits.. ohh my gosh that thing was AWFUL, the entire bottom of it was wired including the hidy house and ramp, needless to say it is no longer in use.. I felt so bad for them, you can tell the previous owners didn't care much for them.. I'm pretty sure they never got hay before I adopted them.
My last bunny would get poopy on his private areas. So we had to give him little baths in the sink to clean his hindquarters. We'd dry him off and give him cuddles afterwards
Like many other people thank you for your awesome helpful videos, here I am again. Thank you Lorelei, you help me see more and more little things every day that hopefully will make my future Bunny's life as good as it can be.
My bunny loves to cuddle. Always ready to be held. I say come see mama and he gets in position and waits for me to pick him up. He loves to be held and snuggles. Really likes to have his back rubbed.
I would like to say something Abt #1, while there are some stereotypes of "scruffing your bunny" the main reason it's bad is bc most ppl use the power inappropriately. A rabbit who is more than 3-4lbs shouldn't be scruffed at all period but a rabbit of the appropriate weight will experience no pain while doing so. yes it is uncomfortable just the same as it is uncomfortable to muzzle a dog but it is not painful to a rabbit of the appropriate weight. Alot of people like to argue with this that they don't have scruffs like canines which is true but a canines scruff is just extra skin, the same thing a rabbit has just more. Also if you have a larger rabbit who is bitey or needs a swift move from one spot to another, scruffing and then placing a hand under the bum holds them upright so they cannot nip while also ensuring thier weight is in your hand and not on their neck. The main stereotypes of scruffing came after it was merged with the idea of picking up by the ears. While you should NEVER pick you're bunny up by the ears "scruffing" is okay as long as it is used appropriately
Four years later and my bunnies still don't let me fully cuddle them 😭 I wish they would lay on me like Lennon does with you! There are some rare occasions but I don't do anything because I don't want to ruin it.
I know everyone says a rabbit needs a rabbit companion, but...this is what happens! With prarie dogs, they say get one, make a pet of him, then get him a friend. If there are always two+ it's hard to bond with them. If it's just you and the rabbit they adapt to you. If there are other rabbit friends he/she will not meet you halfway
Same here 😢 2 years for us. I just deal with it but it’s like I have so much love and cuddles to give my solo boy bun! I’d never hurt him and I think he knows that? But he’s still skittish and takes a few min to warm up, if I lay in the floor he’s fine with pets but he won’t jump up on sofa or let me carry him around. I’m SO thankful for this channel really teaching me about bunny behavior and remind myself all the time, he’s a prey animal 🐰 so my feelings don’t get dashed lol. It’s like human love languages, we can’t just show love the way we like it’s also shut how he feels
@@lazyhomebody1356 I adopted a young adult bonded pair over 4 years ago, after having only one rabbit (that I got before he was full-grown) when I was a kid. The single rabbit was much friendlier and more affectionate than the pair, which I had not realized would be the case. When you think about it, though, who needs petting from a human when there's a rabbit who will lick your ears and face all the time? The only part of me they lick is my hands when there is food residue on them, whereas the single one licked my nose (and only MY nose) like mad. Looked at another way, though, it's better to have two so they don't get lonely and naughty if I'm away all day.
@@chrishayes4323 I have had a pair of guinea pigs where one ignored me and the other was very affectionate. Apparently they sleep all day but you could be a nightyime party animal, lol. I have come around to the idea that bonded pairs are best, but there's no denying Lennon is a happy bunny!
same here. I've had my two boys for just over two years and love them to bits but they are so reserved. Just as I am starting to make headway with them ; i have to take them to the vet for their 6 monthly vaccines and they are back holding a grudge against me
My bunny is almost 2 years he is my sweet baby boy and is 1 year and 11 months and he basically the first cap time he met my sisters cat they were really shy but then they got more used to each other and are bestfriends even though they play together in our living room its cute to see them become friends and some memories and moments he will never forget since his bestfriend is soon to be leaving and I wish my bunny could still live longer and longer to live with me and my family he will always be in my heart and everyone’s still to this day when he passes away I shall keep him cute toys to be reminded.
Placing a bun on they're back is absolutely fine and is completely false and doesn't put one in a trance! I'm a founder of a Rabbit Rescue and would know this!
I once read a book that said that before people started holding their bunnies by the scruff, (This was a book I bought in the early to mid 90's, so yes, it's quite outdated by now.) magicians would grab the rabbits out of their hats by the ears, so they would wiggle around and show the bunny was real. :< This one probably goes without saying with anything that has ears, but please don't grab your bunnies by the ears. :(
2:47 Amen to this one! Holden even gets grumpy if I'm so much as a couple minutes late putting his lettuce mix into his dish 😬 and to then take him away from what he's been looking forward to since breakfast and snack time would be the death of my existence *and* inherently cruel, especially when they're already so fragile and dependent on you for something they feel they've deserved, and like you said, worked for.
I agree that bathing your rabbit is something that you shouldn't do. However, just last week my bunny somehow jumped on a shelf and squirted lotion all over his behind. I didn't want to bathe him, but I had to. I just filled a container up just enough to where it would soak just his behind and legs and not his full body.
Mine was in a cage but also got free roam around my bedroom and even around the house. Got along well with my cats and dogs. She was an angora. She sadly had something genetic wrong or bad luck and died young. She would jump onto my bed and scratch at my blankets next to me until gave her pets and scratches. Often would rest in my window sill with my cats as well. She was super affectionate and social when she had her free roam time! Even would run down the hall and hop onto my mom's bed to visit her for loves. She taught me they're pretty cool pets!
@@TheWiseowleyes That's ridiculous.. I've been to several places that do fine 1:1 without resorting to the trance method. The trance method has been a rarity in my experience.

I have a disabled rabbit (paraplegic) that has to lie on his side. He can’t walk properly. I have to have him on wire mesh, sadly, because he will lie in his waste, otherwise. He can’t get up over the sides of a litter box at all, and the mesh allows the waste to fall through. Any suggestions? I hate that that’s the only solution I’ve found. He does have sores on his feet from it, too. But I imagine it would be a different source of infection, if his waste didn’t fall through, and his entire body had to lie in it. Please help!
What about replacing the wire mesh with a soft polyester alternative that has holes in it like mosquito net or something? You can stretch it out really taught and hold it securely in place. Perhaps there might be puppy training pads that could also help? You might be able to get some that are super absorbent and leave the bunny dry? You could also try diapers as many diapers these days are made so the baby stays dry even when they pee. I have an older bunny that lays around a lot and got sore hocks so I got him some memory foam bathroom mats. It's healed up his feet and cushions his body and you can easily wash them it they get mess on them. I hope this helps. My heart breaks for you as you're in a real hard situation. I really hope you can find a solution that works so you and your bunny can live happily ever after
Thank you very much for your reply. I’ll have to look into some of those options. I had just assumed the fibers and plastics of pads/diapers were a no-go for a chewing animal. But maybe it’s worth looking into. And I like the mesh idea. Intriguing… 😊😊😊

@@Lsssssl there are other ways to pick up a rabbit so no it isn’t needed a vet needs to check the animal but needs to make it as comfortable as possible!😊
You are right about the wire bottom cages and grabbing by the scruff that it's still pretty prevalent with some people, mostly people who keep farm animals but even met a vet tech teacher who thought grabbing a rabbit by the scruff was "just like a cat does" like wtf how embarrassing that a "professional" has such outdated knowledge 🙄 But luckily more ppl have been spreading the word on keeping and handling bunnies how it should. Sadly where i live the wire bottom cages are very common AND they keep the rabbits outside 24/7, it's mostly older people with their old ways. I'm glad more people are learning of the better care for bunnies tho, i have shared much of the knowledge (& your videos) and when i ask people "see, isn't this better for a bunny that you want to care for as a loving pet?" and people do agree when they see how healthy and happy the bunny is.
The only one I can think of is not punishing your bunny. I know you have talked about that in some of your earlier videos. Thanks for sharing your bunny knowledge.

Rabbits do have pads on their feet A wire floor is good it allows the Ur in and poop to go through but you should put a flat board or something for the rabbit to stand on or get on if it wants to short Hocks is a rare . It just don't happen because the rabbit is walking on a wire floor thing
My bunny wasn’t watching where she was going, and I accidentally kicked her. She completely understood that it was an accident. She knows that accidents do happen.
I was watching cute bunny videos from youtube and most of them were adorable and the bunnies weren't harmed or anything. More like just they were sleeping in a cute place or something like that. But THEN... I saw this video that was calles something like "So adorable baby bunny😍". And the person in the video chased the bunny and grabbed it from the neck. The bunny literally SCREAMED IN TERROR! It was so horrible to watch and I felt so bad for that bunny😔
I think also giving my bunny medication for his g.i. stasis made him hate me a lot, he didn't like the meds and would flinch and try to avoid it, the vet showed me how to get on top of him to hold him still and give him a taste with the syringe and give it to him from the side of his mouth, he hated it, most of it he would manage to avoid it and it would go under his chin, it was really tough, i had to give him two different meds for three days, and it took him a month to trust me again and not growl and run away from me in the morning, cause i gave it to him in the morning, he hates brushing too but he tolerates it more as time goes by and forgives me a lot quicker, but i have to brush him cause that's why he got g.i. stasis in the first place cause he didn't like being brushed so I didn't brush him and ate too much hair so his stomach got blocked. To brush him now i just close his eyes hold him still, i used to lock him in between my legs but he hyperventilated so i found a different way.
Just holding him still or brushing he doesn't like but i just try not to do too much and let him off even though it's definitely not enough but i get most of the hair that's hanging off of his but out and don't do too much, he hasn't gotten g.i. stasis since i started brushing him once a month even though he doesn't like it, so it still works I think, i try to get a lot of hair out by just petting him which isn't a problem for him too.

So I might get a bunny and is it ok to have a bunny in like a dog crate? And have puppy pads and bedding on the bottom of the cage? The dog crate is for like a golden retriever so it’s pretty big

Thank You 🙏
THANK YOU for #8!!!
Yes! Tired of people calling it "cruel"
There are other ways to pick up a rabbit scruffing isn’t needed and like you said uncomfortable
Every time I watch one of your videos, I love bunnies more and more ;-) Thanks for another great video!!
You're absolutely wrong.
Then you’re wrong it’s not a natural behavior bunny’s do no that doesn’t always mean it’s wrong but in this case it is
I once read a book that said that before people started holding their bunnies by the scruff, (This was a book I bought in the early to mid 90's, so yes, it's quite outdated by now.) magicians would grab the rabbits out of their hats by the ears, so they would wiggle around and show the bunny was real. :<
This one probably goes without saying with anything that has ears, but please don't grab your bunnies by the ears. :(
It could have broken its spine!
I love to watch your videos, even though I don’t have a bun any longer and don’t plan on having one ❤️
"what he's been looking forward since breakfast and snack time" LOL. My dog is the same. So cute!
great info for beginner
Looks like I’m doing everything right my buns have there own room and they love it
i love lennon 🥰🥰🥰
3:14 my rabbit’s hind is very yellow or looks like its stained with pee, so im not sure if i should give him a bath or not
I've been to some groomers that use the trance as their go-to move for nails etc.. That's a one way ticket to we wont ever be backs-ville imo..
That's because it takes 2 people to do it without a trance and the business doesn't want to pay more people!
@@TheWiseowleyes That's ridiculous.. I've been to several places that do fine 1:1 without resorting to the trance method. The trance method has been a rarity in my experience.
I don't have to force my rabbit to cuddle, she is just needy and constantly wants attention 😂
Thank you so much for your great advises Lorelei, I'm absolutely agree, I love rabbits 😄👍🏼💓 May God Bless you and Lennon 💗
Hello! I love your videos and have five buns! I have two pregnate ones about to pop out babies! We have them into large pens untill the babies are old enough to get proper homes and to potty train and free roam! I’ve learned so much from your chanell!! ❤
Boy, you have a lot of work ahead of you! But lucky you
@@lazyhomebody1356 lol it’s a lot of work including my 25 fish and who knows how many shrimp, frogs snails and two cats 🤣
@@Bun31827 I've always wanted a frog! Maybe someday. I found shrimp to be surprisingly smart
@@lazyhomebody1356 they are! Supper fun to watch them eat! :DD I recommend whites frogs they are great beginner frogs ❤️❤️ they do well with gray tree frogs too!
@@Bun31827 Never heard of whites frogs. Thanks! Do you keep them in tanks? I also want stick insects, but those are easy
i don't know how you even can keep your calm discussing these things. As these things and the general apathy and disregard of bunnies as companions in society really can make my blood boil. Thank you for your service to soon to be bunny-owned people and making the future of said buns better it's really important
She's trying to persuade people, and yelling at them just makes them resist your ideas. I thought she was a little too nice! But Lorelei is making a big difference in rabbits' lives
@@lazyhomebody1356 i'm somehow implying yelling? If yes then i'm sorry, cus i don't do that, it's not in my style.
And no i don't think you can persuade POSs like breeders and bunny eaters that's unlikely
@@motozappa225 I persuaded my dad and cousin to stop rabbit hunting! No, you weren't being loud at all. I was just agreeing with you. I couldn't be as calm as Lorelei either
@@lazyhomebody1356 there's a difference between domesticated buns and wild ones, the problem lies with the first bunch
@@motozappa225 I love all of them! If a person believes animals don't really have thoughts or feelings, and so they don't mind being isolated in a little hutch...they're not going to change theur mind, no. But if they put their rabbit in a hutch "because it's what you do" and they haven't thought about it really...those people WILL change their minds. Esp if it's a child who's parents put the rabbit in a hutch to begin with. All you can do is keep trying, yeah. Breeders! Don't get me started. They KNOW they are the last experts on rabbits, lol
I share a room with my rabbit!
Intriguing…
😊😊😊
@@CarolineJoyAmico i hope you find a solution. Many times I've had to experiment and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it's so worth all the extra effort to have happy bunnies. God bless you and your family and the dear little bunny too ☺️

CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON SOME FUN THINGS YOU CAN GET TO UPGRADE YOUR RABBIT'S HABITAT?!?! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BTW
A vet once grabbed my gentle Roland by the scruff and I reached forward in shock. He doesn’t struggle at all. She changed her hold on him after that. 😡
Younger rabbits shouldn't be picked up by the scruff. Adults can be. And vets pick up many animals by the scruff to give them a check up
@@Lsssssl there are other ways to pick up you’re bunny so by the scruff isn’t needed and it’s uncomfortable for the rabbit

@@Lsssssl there are other ways to pick up a rabbit so no it isn’t needed a vet needs to check the animal but needs to make it as comfortable as possible!😊
@@roosbracke6177 yea, but as i said, sometimes its needed, and it usually dosent last long
You are right about the wire bottom cages and grabbing by the scruff that it's still pretty prevalent with some people, mostly people who keep farm animals but even met a vet tech teacher who thought grabbing a rabbit by the scruff was "just like a cat does" like wtf how embarrassing that a "professional" has such outdated knowledge 🙄 But luckily more ppl have been spreading the word on keeping and handling bunnies how it should.
Can u make a video on how to keep rabbit warm in winter
Hi lorulie I have 16 bunny's I rescued all of them and they are happy I let them go in my house 24/7 they love it lol 😂.
Thank you so much I'm not going to do all these stuff to Mellon the bunny
According to my bunny he will climb in my arm and do the fold sit.. he’s a weird bun. He also loves his feet pet and will do the happy pig sounds 😂
Watched my rabbit get roughly scruffed at the vet in June. Was horrific. Haven’t taken him back since 😢
According to my bun we should NEVER put them in carriers! 😂😂😂
Just curious ... how did wabbits evolve since they're "fatally allergic to -water- rain ?
The only one I can think of is not punishing your bunny. I know you have talked about that in some of your earlier videos. Thanks for sharing your bunny knowledge.
my bunnies like it when they're inside they're cage, i just got them yesterday and they're 2 months old, i keep on opening the door and i wait for them to come out but they never do, is there somehow a way for me to get them out so maybe they could get some exercise?
I love your videos they are very educative I've learned so much from you. You inspired me and helped me realize what I wanted to do when I grow up I'm a ten year old from India 🇮🇳
My bunny really hates his nails done it’s always stressful for both of us 🥺
My bunny is always out unless I am not home and the dogs are home and at bed time other then that he is always free roam
How do you litter train your bunny?
Rabbits do have pads on their feet A wire floor is good it allows the Ur in and poop to go through but you should put a flat board or something for the rabbit to stand on or get on if it wants to short Hocks is a rare . It just don't happen because the rabbit is walking on a wire floor thing
My bunny wasn’t watching where she was going, and I accidentally kicked her. She completely understood that it was an accident. She knows that accidents do happen.
What about sleeping do you should lock your bunny while sleeping?
I was watching cute bunny videos from youtube and most of them were adorable and the bunnies weren't harmed or anything. More like just they were sleeping in a cute place or something like that.
But THEN... I saw this video that was calles something like "So adorable baby bunny😍". And the person in the video chased the bunny and grabbed it from the neck. The bunny literally SCREAMED IN TERROR! It was so horrible to watch and I felt so bad for that bunny😔
I have a question: Is it harmful if your rabbit licks you while wearing makeup?
My mom scruffs my bunny when she's trying to get her out from under the bed (only for vet visits are etc) but then she picks her up normally
I really need to clip my bunny's nails but I just got him yesterday. Does anyone have any advice?
Thank u thank u so much for these videos ❤

Hardest part is the disturb when eating. They always eating 😅
I have a rescue and I have no idea what my bunny back story is so I’m starting for scratch he is 3 years old and I can barely get him .. I might have the vet do this then.
i have a question, i have school at 8am on the weekdays and usually come home around 5pm or 4pm but then as soon as i get home i have to got to basketball practice til'7 is it still ok for my bun to be in the cage during those hours because my mom will mostly tell me to take him out of the cage for a few minutes while im getting dressed in the morning, when i come home at noon, and at night for an hour or two is this ok?
I used to bathe my rabbit with my friend but I’ve never done it ever since I’ve heard you say this😢
What if there in a cage just for when they sleep and free Rome all day outside? Is that okay
Mine has a hutch with a huge run
So I might get a bunny and is it ok to have a bunny in like a dog crate? And have puppy pads and bedding on the bottom of the cage? The dog crate is for like a golden retriever so it’s pretty big
Yes! That is really good
