Have you ever wondered who would win between the epic Pokemon battle on Mt. Silver between Red and Gold? Well now you can finally found out in my newest video! I spent 2-3 hours in research alone on this video so, in my opinion, this is a very accurate assumption. NOT saying this is "official" though or anything. ONLY my opinion! People still arguing “Gold is better than Red cause Gold beat Red.”
Fact is, the player beat Red. It’s called “plot armor”.
If Red had beaten Gold, the game would've just continued normally like a Rival Battle when you lose - You'll always return to the last Pokémon Center you healed and the game pretends that the battle didn't exist. The game is programmed for the protagonist to win, so I think the "player who's done it" argument isn't valid.
I agree that the player is the one who beats red but I also would argue that this battle isn’t part of any story so you can’t call it “plot armor”.
If you win, he just goes “.....” and fucks off for 24 hours. There’s no plot or dialogue-just an in-game time-based extra event
By that logic, Red didnt beat the elite four nor became the champion, the player did. So both of them are featless and noob trainers.

Well, he faced Gold as a Gym Leader, no as a former Champion, there are rules he has to follow I suppose. His Gym team is pretty decent though

In the rematch blue has lvl 70+ pokemon. Which is just as high as lance and only around 10 or 15 lower than red.
How would blue that? All he knows is he is strong enough to beat 7 other gym leaders, and uses his Pokémon accordingly. He wouldn’t use champion Pokémon on a kid that hasn’t gone through victory road and beaten the elite four

Something to add also is that Red lost his humanity being alone up there for three years. He is isolated from his friends and family, and while its not proven, its not absurd to think that Blue's long walks outside of Viridian to clear his head are opportunities to think over what he did, how he pushed and bullied Red to the point where he left everyone he loved to be the very best. Its very likely that Oak sent Gold there once he got all 16 badges in an attempt to snap Red out of it by possibly beating him, and I think that for Gold, although he did not achieve as much as Red, this would be his final test. To save Trainer Red from isolation and self destruction.
Red is the better trainer, but I like to think that for Red's sake, Gold prevailed.

I like to think that red’s heart was hardened by being a trainer and sees everyone else as unworthy, but gold is optimistic and would gladly forfeit even the mighty ho oh if it meant helping someone.
I mean, Red is correct. Everyone else is unworthy. Red realized that being a champion means nothing. He remains the only trainer in existence who has caught all pokemon in canon.

I like to think that Red is the better trainer, even though I identify with Gold more. I will say if both trainers had no restrictions, and used every potential threat, I can see Red bringing his Mewtwo and possibly one of the legendary birds, and Gold would be equipped with Lugia or Ho-Oh, as well as any of the legendary dogs. Gold’s manga team definitely can seem weak on paper, but his potential is definitely there. And I do give credit to gold for beating 16 gyms; if we applied the rule that gym leaders scale up depending on how many badges you have, especially once you have 7-8, then every Kanto leader went all out in their gym challenge team wise. Granted you brought up a great point about Blue not using his true champion potential as a gym leader...but also Blue seems like the guy that would get ticked once he started losing to Gold, and he would definitely crank up the serious factor mid match. I wish we could see more content like the Pokémon Origins and Generations sagas, because it was such a treat to delve more into the minds of the characters, as they related from the games.
Also, just because I love Gold, I see his OP team consisting of:
- Typhlosion
- Tyranitar
- Gyrados
- Ho-Oh/Lugia
- Suicune
- Togekiss
With Politoed, Ambipom, Sudowudo, Raikou, Entei, and Sunflora in the back. If he weren’t limited to just the mons he’s used in the manga, then I’d see him choosing a bunch of other strong Johto favs like Heracross, Donphan, Skarmory, Amphoros, and Umbreon as well.
If Red has access to any Kanto Pokémon can’t Gold at least have his pick of Johto? 🤪

Pyr1Te uhh, u know the Dexholder tournament is a 2vs2 muck around between 10 pokedex holders right, theres no point for Red to win it, Emerald won it in the end anyway.
In the game Red should had 1 extra dog depending on the starter that he picked.

Gold shivered. How could a human be up here for 3 years, he thought. He sent out Typhlosion to warm him up, and continued up the mountain. About an hour after he entered the summit, he stumbled up a ledge and into a clearing on top of one of the mountains. He almost gasped as he looked up. There he was, Red, in all his glory. The kid who single-handedly thrashed the entirety of the elite 4, Team Rocket, the gyms, and even Blue. Gold's shoes crunched on bits of snow scattered everywhere as he walked towards Red. "I challenge you to a battle!" Gold shouted. The sound was an unwelcome one for Red, and he turned around. His eyebrow raised. "Fine. You'd better not waste my time." Red said without any emotion. Gold fired back "Oh, don't worry. I'm the Johto champ! And once I beat you, I'll be the champion of the Kanto region as well!" Red shrugged. "This might be interesting."
To start the battle, Gold sent out his Red Gyarados. Red sent out Pikachu. Red didn't even have to speak for his Pokemon to interpret his actions. Pikachu lunged forward, and attacked with quick attack. As the name implies, the move quickly dispatched Gyarados. Just one hit, Gold wondered. Who is this guy? "Hope that isn't all, Johto boy." Red remarked. "Oh, it isn't! Watch this!" Hitmonchan burst from its ball, firing off a Mega Punch at the Pikachu. It hit the electric rat with a slam. When the dust cleared, Pikachu looked about half down. "Not bad... but it's my turn." Pikachu sparked, and fired a huge bolt from its body. "It's Thunder! Hitmonchan, move! NOW!" But Hitmonchan was just a bit too late. It hit the ground with a thud. "Grr... I'm not done yet!" Gold threw out his Sudowoodo. Gold grinned as he ordered the rock-tree thing to use Earthquake. *It's super effective!* Pikachu goes down. "Huh. That doesn't happen much." Red raised an eyebrow. He haphazardly tossed another pokeball, containing Espeon. Sudowoodo flew at Espeon, performing Double Edge. Before it could hit, however, Espeon landed Psychic to fling Sudowoodo into a nearby ledge. However, being hardy, Sudowoodo got up fairly easily. "I was hoping you wouldn't have to use this, Sudowoodo, but here goes! Wood hammer, let's go!" Sudowoodo jumped over to Espeon, its hands almost fused together to become a huge hammer. The hammer struck, and both Espeon and Sudowoodo were out of the battle. Red tossed out his Snorlax, and Togetic flew from Gold's hand. Snorlax couldn't land a solid hit on Togetic, what with its flying around and Snorlax being a bit... big. Togetic readied its attack, and unleashed Focus Punch! Snorlax, even with all of its tankiness, went down quickly. Red and Gold were now on even ground. Gold clutched his Ultra Ball. He knew that this was the time to use it. "Suicune, c'mon! You can do it!" Suicune appeared and took a regal stance. Red threw a Pokeball, and Venusaur appeared. "Suicune, ice beam let's go!" A laser of pure cold flew at Venusaur, damaging it greatly. Venusaur used sunny day. The sunlight appeared and burned away any traces of snow on the mountain. Suicune looked drowsy from the heat, being an ice type. Due to its Chlorophyll ability, Venusaur moved first the next turn, firing off a devestating Solar Beam. It took most of Suicune's health, but it finished Venusaur off with another Ice Beam. Red threw out Blastoise. "Heh, looks like you're in a corner, bud! You sure you're the champion and I'm not being pranked?" Red blinked. "Skull bash." Suicune immediately fell. Red almost cracked a smile. Almost. "Down to you, buddy... Typhlosion, you got this!" Typhlosion flew from the ball, roaring in pride. A hydro pump narrowly missed Typhlosion, but some of the water skimmed its skin, doing some damage. "Mega kick!" Typhlosion's legs were powerful, despite looking fairly short. This move sent Blastoise flying. "You're not bad, huh?" Red's final Pokemon, Charizard, flew from the pokeball and into the sky. Typhlosion and Charizard immediately began duking it out, punches, kicks, bites, slashes, heck, even some moves they didn't know were peppered in there. As a final ditch effort, Typhlosion started winding up for a Mega Kick. Charizard immediately began winding up its Wing Attack. The moves both hit the opponent's soft spots with a massive crack. Wind from the impact nearly blew both of the trainers over. Charizard and Typhlosion both took some steps backward...
Before Typhlosion hit the ground, fainted. Red glared. "You probably would've won if you hadn't been hit with Blastoise's Hydro Pump." Gold returned Typhlosion to its pokeball, and, in a slump, began the long walk down the mountain without anything to warm him.
You have a talent. Dont forget it.

I always took it that Gold has to win this battle. Red at this point has become a recluse and obsessed with power and finding Mew. Gold winning saves his life. It gets Red to go back home and see his friends and family again instead of dying alone on top of Mt. Silver.

That's exactly what I was thinking, it does not have a plot like comics, it's a game, of course red in pokemon gold isn't even near as good as a player
Also with these teams let me just add, Red didn’t need a legendary pokemon, and Gold used a Suicune to “win” in the games. So even though Gold won in the game, we all know that was only cause we controlled him. And if that were a real fight with Red really trying his hardest with his best pokemon, Red would have swept the floor with Gold.

@@kinggrey6288 true, it's sad gen 2 trainers and Pokemon are not that prominent compared to others. I started my journey with Typhlosion, so I'm really attached to gen 2. Sadly though, they seem to have been forgotten with time by gamefreak :( when mega evolution was introduced, I'd been hyped up about Typhlosion getting one, and now it's been years 😭
There's no sign of Ethan either, hope we see them soon too ^^

Not really. Neither of them had a Mega Evolution. Zinnia in ORAS states that there is an alternate dimension identical to theirs where Mega Evolution was never discovered, that being the GSC/HGSS games (or any game before XY really). If Red would have had a Mega Stone, so would Gold.
Either way, Red is still stronger though.

The thing about Gold attracting Suicune's attention is a bit unfair. In Red's day, legendaries didn't roam the land. They stayed shut up in hard to reach locations, and you had to go find them. Just because one didn't plop itself down in front of Red, didn't mean he was unworthy. If anything, that makes his being able to find and catch them against their wills all the more impressive. You only get one Master Ball, so at some point Red was just a good enough trainer to catch three legendaries without one. I'm not saying catching Suicune wasn't hard, because it was. But there's a big difference between a legendary that roams the wild, and one that hides itself deep in a dungeon that you need serious skill to navigate. Which is no doubt why Red hides himself deep in Mt. Silver among strong Pokemon. And why they let him. Game recognizes game.

@monc hilqs fair enough to be honest i would see the battle being an actual tie rather than a victory for either of them even with that said its really hard to have a clear winner as they could both have won while Red had more experience Gold did achieve many things on his own and also with little time he also as a lot of focus and knows is way in battle he did beat Lance who had stronger pokemons and saw that Gold was really strong but i do also agree that Blue might have not go all out and besides all of those things so did Red in there fight we also have to keep in mind the Red we face is the Red from the Yellow game and not from Red,Blue or the remakes

With his pokemon he could have easily made some sort of small cave as his home. And when he's not in that cave, Charizard keeps him warm while there is more than enough water on mt. silver between the snow and his Blastoise. Food shouldn't be an issue as well between all the wild pokemon and Venasaur.

A Legendary being attracted to a trainer really doesn’t mean anything, I’m sure you’d agree with this after Hop attracted Zacian/Zamazenta(depending on your game). If Hop was a more powerful trainer than Red I’d give up on the series as a whole. Also Mewtwo would shit on Suicune in a fight

The scaling argument is quite weak. When Gold challenged Blue, he had already beaten all of the Johto region and gotten the Johto Elite Four, as well as 7 badges from Kanto. there is no reason for Blue to hold back.
