In part because of how hostile show business and society is to women impertinent enough to age. Complimenting Audrey at the expense of others is tacky and classless. Audrey would never have approved.

Face work done, swollen for a while (she still had to do a movie though) and by and by it will settle out and look „good“ again. It's kinda sad when actresses begin to age and they desperately try to preserve their fading beauty for as long as possible with plastic surgeries, resulting in lifeless, expressionless frozen faces. European movies still have the pretty faces but also age appropriate faces. The leads are not all younger than 35. Faces with character is just as interesting as absolute beauty.
British actors see acting as a job. If they are not acting in a film, they are on TV or in a play. Being a star is not a priority. And they don't have to be pretty, be they male, female, trans or non binary. Being old is not a sin - what is wanted is talent. That's why Dame Judi is seen as a goddess. Oh, and blind casting is not a big deal. Means we don't have to see the young actors over and over.
