2018 Lexus LX 570 Review and Comparison

  • Since I recently said that Land Cruiser shoppers should head to the Lexus dealer, it seemed only fitting that we take a quick look at teh Lexus LX 570. For 2018 the "Lexus Land Cruiser" gains a 2-row model making it a hair less expensive than it's Toyota sister-ship although you do give up a few goodies to get the Lexus logo on the front.

      tom rojas how did you manage to control the urge of buying new LX? I’m asking because I want to buy LX 2017 and keep for 15 years. But I don’t trust myself.

      Adil Khan Well Adi, I tend to keep vehicles for a long time, as long as they hold up mechanically and aesthetically. My LX is simply as nice today as when I bought it, and with the investment markets as volatile as they’ve been, being debt free feels much more comfortable than carrying a 50-60K auto debt. (But I must admit, I’ve been sorely tempted from time to time!)

    When I started working and making good money out of college (Accounting) I went and bought a black LX570, no one understand why a 22 year old single dude likes to drive a Behemoth but honestly I just love it so much, the sense of power this truck gives you is amazing, And I’m gonna drive it till I’m 60

      @@mikemorales1725. I have the first year 2008 of LX 570. It has around 150k miles so far. Besides the oil change, couple times of new tires sets, spark plugs change that there was almost nothing else to spend. With that, I wish you hit the $100k lottery that would be OK.

  • @Jaymac720
    @Jaymac720 6 лет назад +47

    Frankly I think the Lexus LX is the best compromise in the luxury SUV segment. It’s comfortable, durable, and off road capable. No other entry is all of those. Range rovers aren’t durable. The QX80 and Navigator aren’t off road capable. They’re all comfortable obviously but I do factor reliability into comfort. If my car could break at any second, I would be terrified to drive it. Obviously I’m exaggerating but you get my point. What I think Lexus should do is offer two versions of the LX: one with proper 4WD and independent rear suspension for improved comfort, practicality, and efficiency; and one like this to be off road capable.

    • @ronghuazhu9745
      @ronghuazhu9745 6 лет назад +5

      Jay Mac perfectly put. Range Rover is not body on frame, I think. That thing can't last on rug roads

    • @Jaymac720
      @Jaymac720 6 лет назад +1

      Ronghua Zhu yeah it’s a crossover. I never explicitly commented on it’s off road ability. For the off roader entry I’d say that it’d be the G Wagon but that’s not really a direct competitor since it’s more on the compact side than full size

    • @Jaymac720
      @Jaymac720 6 лет назад

      Jack Z but the G Wagon was designed in and for a different time. I know what the g Wagon is about but compared to other luxury SUV’s it lags way behind in terms of quality technology and especially fuel economy (not that any of them are really that good aside from the Escalade and Navigator) also according to Doug DeMuro on road handling is absolutely atrocious which is typical of off roaders but that was bad

    We don't sell many of these at Lexus. Few people have use for such a large vehicle and elite off-road capability AND luxury. However, if you have a large family, and money was no object, the reliability/durability, size and comfort of this LX is definitely worth considering.

      I must say these are quite popular in my country Nigeria especially in Lagos and Abuja. I see a lot daily, there isn't a day i don't see several in Lagos. I don't know if all are brand new though and they are brought in from the US, Canada and the middle east. Lexus is very popular here especially this massive SUV, despite this SUV being more expensive than the Mercedes GLE and GLS it is still way more popular than both.

      Heard they have a jostling stiff ride on road. This Lexus is about cruising long road trips with options to get out of just about any road conditions. I like the SR5 4 runner but this older achey bod of mine won’t do well with the lack of cushioning on the roads. Enjoy

    • @YGFAMILY2K
      @YGFAMILY2K 5 лет назад +1

      No! 4runner is only 2wd and part time 4wd only. You can't get true torsen center like land cruiser or LX. Sorry you get what you pay for.

  • @poisonouspython1410
    @poisonouspython1410 6 лет назад +40

    This and the land cruiser are one of the few full size SUV nameplates that still actually make sense to buy and keep long term. I would not put any faith in owning an ecoboost powered $100k Navigator past 50k miles, or a Land Rover past warranty either. Cars are becoming a disposable commodity at a rapid pace and rest assured the LX and LC are some of the last of their breed when it comes to extreme service life, durable vehicles and I expect the resale values on these will reflect that immensely. I just wonder if the 300 series (if we ever get one) will follow the same ethos or fall prey to the trends of short term consumerism. I certainly hope not.

      Vehicles today remain on the road longer then any other time. I remember back in the ‘70’s, 4 years would be about all you could expect. Now, 10 years is the norm. Not sure about that disposable commodity comment

    • @poisonouspython1410
      @poisonouspython1410 6 лет назад +7

      +Ray lolwut? Are you even paying attention to the auto industry? Everything is moving towards lease and move onto the newer car when its up. You want to own a new Audi, range rover, BMW, mercedes for 10 years? That's financial suicide at this point. It used to be feasible to buy a car, and if you chose to repair it for 20 years, that was fine. Now even an econobox can become a financial nightmare in less than 10 years once all the electronic bloat starts going bad and the cost of replacing some minor part ends up being more than than the vehicle's value.

    • @rayhayduk3668
      @rayhayduk3668 6 лет назад +4

      Poisonous Python I’ll tell you what financial suicide is.....having a $600 car payment every month for each of the 45 years of your working career. Good luck with that. I’ll happily spend a couple thousand dollars each year repairing and maintaining my RangeRover during the 5 years that follow my final payment. You just want a new vehicle every 3 years and can’t understand why some of use don’t need that. Nor do you understand the savings benefits of no car payments for 4,5,6 years.

    • @poisonouspython1410
      @poisonouspython1410 6 лет назад +9

      +Ray You really must be painfully obtuse. The points I previously made are exactly in agreement with your last post. I never have bought a brand new car and never will. That is like burning money. I own a 58, 98, and an 02 and I ain't going any newer than that - too much built in electronic obsolescence in modern stuff for my tastes. I was lauding Toyota/Lexus for still building a car you can buy and sleep well knowing it will likely last way more than 10 years. I think the trend of getting a new car every few years is asinine, but hey that's what this new generation is about.

    How does Lexus GX460 compare to the LX570 in terms of durability, reliability and longevity? Trying to decide between the two for my personal daily driver to work (city) and family (2 kids, Labrador) vehicle for long distance trips, camping/off road, etc. For budget reasons, considering used 2013-15 LX or slightly newer 2015-17 GX to keep "forever"... Would really appreciate thoughts...thank you!

    • @huythai1222
      @huythai1222 5 лет назад +1

      Questtt3 the newer GXs are basically like the 2012 models. It’s worth giving the older LXs a look because not only is it more luxurious, more comfortable, and more spacious, you can also tow a great deal. I find that the hydraulic suspension is extremely useful due to low parking garages etc etc. but, our old LX barely makes 14 mpg and it’s quite big, but it is extremely reliable and it tows our 22’ pontoon like a champ. Just my two cents, we moved up to a 2017 model LX recently and it’s a treat to drive.

    There is a little discrepancy between size offer he mentions, comparing it with Range Rover as competitor. Range Rover is unibody which make sit more modern SUVs with spacious cabin inside, similar to crossovers - unique. What is similar between Range Rover and Landcruiser is that they have same all time permanent, heavy expensive system of all SUVs, drivetrain that Subaru uses without mechanical locking differentials on axles. Range Rovers and Landcruisers have the best of all SUV system, for off-roading and for safety, difference are - one frame, the other one is spacious unibody.

    Isn't the Infinity/Patrol a part time old-school 4wd? I certainly thought so. That means 2wd on the road.
    By the way, my oldie Land Cruiser has or had an electronically actuated rear diff lock, but it hasn't worked in years, as well as hydraulically assisted height adjustable suspension with comfort mode which is faultless so far. All the salty road spray has killed either the electric motor or the connectors on the back axle, and since it adds near zero to its actual capability [no rock crawling here], it's not worth repairing.

    Every vehicle with power seats should have 4 way lumbar in my opinion. I'd much rather have more seat adjustment than a power adjustable steering wheel.

    0:58 America gets the Lexus GX 460; they just don't sell the Toyota equivalent Land Cruiser Prado J150. I don't know why you're implying the J200 is less offroad capable than the J150 though.

    I test drove this thing and did not like it. After just 15 minutes I asked the sales person to stop the car because I was about to throw up due to boat ride like ride. And the second row was small. From the outside the SUV looks big but inside is a different story.

    I drove both QX80 and LX570. I have to say Lx570 has much better handling, epically on steep slope and winding road.

      John Paul Roman for some reason no Toyota’s have it. It doesn’t really make sense. It’s the only reason I’m hesitant to look at a Toyota for my next car. I love them but I want Apple CarPlay
