2018 Lexus LX 570 Review and Comparison

- Since I recently said that Land Cruiser shoppers should head to the Lexus dealer, it seemed only fitting that we take a quick look at teh Lexus LX 570. For 2018 the "Lexus Land Cruiser" gains a 2-row model making it a hair less expensive than it's Toyota sister-ship although you do give up a few goodies to get the Lexus logo on the front.

I’ve had a 2003 LX470 for 15 years: Best vehicle I’ve ever had. Reliable, Beautiful, and Super Comfortable.
tom rojas how did you manage to control the urge of buying new LX? I’m asking because I want to buy LX 2017 and keep for 15 years. But I don’t trust myself.
Adil Khan Well Adi, I tend to keep vehicles for a long time, as long as they hold up mechanically and aesthetically. My LX is simply as nice today as when I bought it, and with the investment markets as volatile as they’ve been, being debt free feels much more comfortable than carrying a 50-60K auto debt. (But I must admit, I’ve been sorely tempted from time to time!)
When I started working and making good money out of college (Accounting) I went and bought a black LX570, no one understand why a 22 year old single dude likes to drive a Behemoth but honestly I just love it so much, the sense of power this truck gives you is amazing, And I’m gonna drive it till I’m 60
Plus you can do SUV Camping or digital nomading in full size luxury.
If I ever won the lotto, my first stop, after an attorney, will be my local Lexus dealer.
Mike Morales Hahaha, small dreams
Apparently you are dreaming to win a $100K lottery.
A 100k lottery would not be enough to buy and maintain this
Me too! Except the attorney. He/she will cost more than the suv.
@@mikemorales1725. I have the first year 2008 of LX 570. It has around 150k miles so far. Besides the oil change, couple times of new tires sets, spark plugs change that there was almost nothing else to spend. With that, I wish you hit the $100k lottery that would be OK.
Nice video review, just got my 2021 LX. ❤️
What exterior and interior colors did you get?
Frankly I think the Lexus LX is the best compromise in the luxury SUV segment. It’s comfortable, durable, and off road capable. No other entry is all of those. Range rovers aren’t durable. The QX80 and Navigator aren’t off road capable. They’re all comfortable obviously but I do factor reliability into comfort. If my car could break at any second, I would be terrified to drive it. Obviously I’m exaggerating but you get my point. What I think Lexus should do is offer two versions of the LX: one with proper 4WD and independent rear suspension for improved comfort, practicality, and efficiency; and one like this to be off road capable.
Jay Mac perfectly put. Range Rover is not body on frame, I think. That thing can't last on rug roads
Ronghua Zhu yeah it’s a crossover. I never explicitly commented on it’s off road ability. For the off roader entry I’d say that it’d be the G Wagon but that’s not really a direct competitor since it’s more on the compact side than full size
Jack Z but the G Wagon was designed in and for a different time. I know what the g Wagon is about but compared to other luxury SUV’s it lags way behind in terms of quality technology and especially fuel economy (not that any of them are really that good aside from the Escalade and Navigator) also according to Doug DeMuro on road handling is absolutely atrocious which is typical of off roaders but that was bad
The only thinga i dont like about lexus is their options and customizations is kinda limited, everything else is perfect
Reliability doesn't matter to most people buying NEW cars. They will lease or buy for 3-6 years and won't keep them long term
Can I just say, split tailgates are severely underrated.
James Russo Doug DeMuro would seem to agree
No body can't beat the Toyota/Lexus resale price and reliability
Porsche has the strongest resale price game these days.
Honda has the best resale value
During my ownership of this car, I find the only con is that it takes forever to wash and detail the car due to its size lol
minimin0425 how was power and fuel economy. Seems like only downside of this car
Amolak Singh if your lookin at fuel economy when your buying a vehicle of this size look for another car
This is the best LX VIDEO on You Tube! Nice work Alex.
We don't sell many of these at Lexus. Few people have use for such a large vehicle and elite off-road capability AND luxury. However, if you have a large family, and money was no object, the reliability/durability, size and comfort of this LX is definitely worth considering.
LEXUriouS Kirk here in the Middle East they are sold like candies and they hold their prices for so long even after many milages
sabufinisher I believe you. It's perfect for the desert, carrying lots of people and cargo, and it won't break down easily. Of course there's plenty of money there to buy these up
I must say these are quite popular in my country Nigeria especially in Lagos and Abuja. I see a lot daily, there isn't a day i don't see several in Lagos. I don't know if all are brand new though and they are brought in from the US, Canada and the middle east. Lexus is very popular here especially this massive SUV, despite this SUV being more expensive than the Mercedes GLE and GLS it is still way more popular than both.
Samson Okoro it's far more reliable than any other competitor. We had a Nigerian woman in here a couple weeks ago wanting to ship a LX 570 to Nigeria. It's not an easy thing to do.
I can imagine, but this SUV is really popular here in Lagos and i believe the same is applicable in Abuja as well.
Appreciate that you go into detail on seat comfort and adjustability in all of your videos. So many other reviewers glance over those details.
Incredibly informative. Good work Alex!
The 2018-2019 LX has a new grill that is stunning and available already in some countries. Will come to USA soon. This will be my next Lexus as soon as they put in it something that doesn’t do 17MPG on highway. Thanks Alex for the great review
Such a detailed and thoughtful review. Excellent
Thank you. Fantastic review. Loved the comparisons with other cars. Most useful. 👍👏
As always Mr Alex has made a fantastic review
dude you are the best at getting ALL the important info!
I absolutely love my Limited 4Runner. Same full time all wheel drive via torsen center differential. Seats 7 in a pinch. Leather, mem heated and ventilated seats, upgraded stereo system and most importantly, a power rear window (my dog loves this). It’s a mini 4.0 V6 version of these. Love it!
Power rear windows rule!
Heard they have a jostling stiff ride on road. This Lexus is about cruising long road trips with options to get out of just about any road conditions. I like the SR5 4 runner but this older achey bod of mine won’t do well with the lack of cushioning on the roads. Enjoy
No! 4runner is only 2wd and part time 4wd only. You can't get true torsen center like land cruiser or LX. Sorry you get what you pay for.
This and the land cruiser are one of the few full size SUV nameplates that still actually make sense to buy and keep long term. I would not put any faith in owning an ecoboost powered $100k Navigator past 50k miles, or a Land Rover past warranty either. Cars are becoming a disposable commodity at a rapid pace and rest assured the LX and LC are some of the last of their breed when it comes to extreme service life, durable vehicles and I expect the resale values on these will reflect that immensely. I just wonder if the 300 series (if we ever get one) will follow the same ethos or fall prey to the trends of short term consumerism. I certainly hope not.
New Toyota body- on-frame vehicles are currently under development. It is likely that they will remain the most reliable.
Vehicles today remain on the road longer then any other time. I remember back in the ‘70’s, 4 years would be about all you could expect. Now, 10 years is the norm. Not sure about that disposable commodity comment
+Ray lolwut? Are you even paying attention to the auto industry? Everything is moving towards lease and move onto the newer car when its up. You want to own a new Audi, range rover, BMW, mercedes for 10 years? That's financial suicide at this point. It used to be feasible to buy a car, and if you chose to repair it for 20 years, that was fine. Now even an econobox can become a financial nightmare in less than 10 years once all the electronic bloat starts going bad and the cost of replacing some minor part ends up being more than than the vehicle's value.
Poisonous Python I’ll tell you what financial suicide is.....having a $600 car payment every month for each of the 45 years of your working career. Good luck with that. I’ll happily spend a couple thousand dollars each year repairing and maintaining my RangeRover during the 5 years that follow my final payment. You just want a new vehicle every 3 years and can’t understand why some of use don’t need that. Nor do you understand the savings benefits of no car payments for 4,5,6 years.
+Ray You really must be painfully obtuse. The points I previously made are exactly in agreement with your last post. I never have bought a brand new car and never will. That is like burning money. I own a 58, 98, and an 02 and I ain't going any newer than that - too much built in electronic obsolescence in modern stuff for my tastes. I was lauding Toyota/Lexus for still building a car you can buy and sleep well knowing it will likely last way more than 10 years. I think the trend of getting a new car every few years is asinine, but hey that's what this new generation is about.
Alex with his best David Blaine impression lowering that ground clearance while standing outside of the car. Impressive!
This is a super thorough review. Thank you so much.
🔥🔥🔥 Great review sir.
If only i had $100K. btw, the hydraulic kneeling system, i dont know how reliable it is. but if your warranty ends and that things malfunction, you are going to expect a huge bill from repair/replace.
Alex yo do a great job reviewing every car my request is can you review the lx 570 with third row thanks.Your a reviews are the best.
Many owners report problems with massaging seats in the Navigator. Not that good a value if what you paid for doesn't work.
Along the same lines, reliability and durability are even more important features if you ever intend to go off road. Looking at you Range Rovers.
glad to see a trunk comfort score
I honestly just love the LX 570 especially the two row more storage and honestly in most suvs the third row is always to tight
This is a fantastic review of LX 570. Very lucid and precise ! It is
good that LX comes in a 2 row seat trim. I think u can save over $5000
over the 3 row seat trim. My dream SUV :)
good detailed review.
Very good analysis. One of the best I have watched. The Navigator (a Ford) is not going to be more reliable than the Lexus and reliability is huge for my wife and I. So for us the 570 wins.
What a great review.
Wait! The trunk comfort index is back?
Where the heck was that road you did the test drive on? Good test, great review. Tks
Love the split tailgate.
I love my lx 570.
Was very close to ordering a 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser but with Lexus incentives plus realizing I would be getting much better after sales service plus a few upgrades here and there that were not offered on the L.C., I went with a 2018 Lexus LX570 and just paid only $4,000 more for a fully optioned LX570.
looks agressive and sleek. I dig it. would take this over the QX80 with that 10 year old interior although the exterior is super nice
Thanks bro please make video like this Toyota land cruiser 2018 top model white colour
Nice "Alex on Autos" ad on the car and on the license plate. Great review as always. Learn a lot.
Wow my 2011 Tundra Limited has an electric thigh extender. Odd that this does not. Same engine as my Tundra. Bulletproof.
can u like 2 or more times! this is my 5 times watching this review lx/lc is my dream car.
Thanks for the great review Alex. No Cadi Escalade for the comparison?
It’s nice but the lack of space would bother me if I was in the market for a full size.
Very impressive commentary
Alex, it is also possible that the spindle grille is growing on you. I also though that it looks awful at start, and now I kinda dig it. The same as when audi first went to the now ubiqutious grille in 2004.
Great review as always 👌 I searched for your review of the Toyota fortuner but couldnt find it, is it not coming to USA. I'm considering to buy one and wanted your point of view.
you have to make do with the 4runner...
It would be great to have on-screen annotations (links) to other car reviews in the comparison part, or in the description part of the video.
Interesting strobing pattern on the DRLs.
Alex on autos
typo " quick look at teh Lexus LX 570."
My favourite SUV!!!! two downside: too expensive( but worth it) and that V8 drinks oil like no tomorrow. this thing is a tank..... unstoppable and unbeatable.
Are you doing a review on the chevy traverse
How does Lexus GX460 compare to the LX570 in terms of durability, reliability and longevity? Trying to decide between the two for my personal daily driver to work (city) and family (2 kids, Labrador) vehicle for long distance trips, camping/off road, etc. For budget reasons, considering used 2013-15 LX or slightly newer 2015-17 GX to keep "forever"... Would really appreciate thoughts...thank you!
Questtt3 the newer GXs are basically like the 2012 models. It’s worth giving the older LXs a look because not only is it more luxurious, more comfortable, and more spacious, you can also tow a great deal. I find that the hydraulic suspension is extremely useful due to low parking garages etc etc. but, our old LX barely makes 14 mpg and it’s quite big, but it is extremely reliable and it tows our 22’ pontoon like a champ. Just my two cents, we moved up to a 2017 model LX recently and it’s a treat to drive.
Can you please review the Toyota Sequoia 2018 Platinum
what set isa lc200 is the v8 diesel, without it better get the lexus
Top of the line LC is ZX series which is being sold in Asia .its a full house
LC in US is already opt out... they put every options in except the rear DVD...
I've never like the fold to the side 3rd row
Q for Alex: Did you feel the same "peculiar suspension setup" in the 2015 LX that you test drove?
I want Alex in the trunk in every episode! Make it so.
Bring back your grading system and decibel rating please.
I believe the 5.7L V8 in the LX and Land Cruiser (the 3UR-FE) still utilizes port fuel injection, not direct fuel injection. Good for durability.
Always used in comparison on Car & Driver in their In-Depth look metrics and is always last place. Lexus needs to step up their game against the competition.
closest competitor is Nissan patrol Y62 unfortunately it's not selling in US
Nice review. I’m deciding between a new Lx570, X7 from BMW or the Escalade.
What did you get?
Maybe a base Sequoia is the best way to go if you are looking for 3 tons of Toyota SUV fun ;)
Sequoia is not as off road capable as the landcruiser/lx570, its more of an oversized van if anything.
Is there ever lx570 owners taking it truly off-road every weekend?
Alex, how long does it take the USS Lexus LX570 to cross the Atlantic?
FedoraMcGentlesir ask a Basking shark. That’s what they designed this monstrosity from...
the leather is beautiful
6:30
Is it accurate that lx570 has direct injection engine??
I think both lx and gx both are port injection.
This is the best car.
Gần tết nguyên đán sẽ rước xe này về đón xuân
The cruising range on this car is a pain though, something like 200+ miles on a full tank of gas.
There is a little discrepancy between size offer he mentions, comparing it with Range Rover as competitor. Range Rover is unibody which make sit more modern SUVs with spacious cabin inside, similar to crossovers - unique. What is similar between Range Rover and Landcruiser is that they have same all time permanent, heavy expensive system of all SUVs, drivetrain that Subaru uses without mechanical locking differentials on axles. Range Rovers and Landcruisers have the best of all SUV system, for off-roading and for safety, difference are - one frame, the other one is spacious unibody.
that navigator is the humongous, i doubt it would fit in my garage, its really nice. the lexus lx570 is bordering on ancient and it shows, it simply cannot compete in today's market with the exception of those who want to keep something long long term and wants reliability.
yep... can't compete... except everywhere other than North America... :)
Bro in all the years I’ve had my lx ive never thought to leave the tailgate open for extra room
Isn't the Infinity/Patrol a part time old-school 4wd? I certainly thought so. That means 2wd on the road.
By the way, my oldie Land Cruiser has or had an electronically actuated rear diff lock, but it hasn't worked in years, as well as hydraulically assisted height adjustable suspension with comfort mode which is faultless so far. All the salty road spray has killed either the electric motor or the connectors on the back axle, and since it adds near zero to its actual capability [no rock crawling here], it's not worth repairing.
Wow this thing is huge, I thought that Wrangler was a Miata initially.
My only complaint is the lack of pano sunroof.
Every vehicle with power seats should have 4 way lumbar in my opinion. I'd much rather have more seat adjustment than a power adjustable steering wheel.
0:58 America gets the Lexus GX 460; they just don't sell the Toyota equivalent Land Cruiser Prado J150. I don't know why you're implying the J200 is less offroad capable than the J150 though.
Or was he referring to the 70/76/79 series?🤔
I got to test drive this one. I was very disappointed with the ride quality. It wasn't that smooth.
Where was this filmed?
I test drove this thing and did not like it. After just 15 minutes I asked the sales person to stop the car because I was about to throw up due to boat ride like ride. And the second row was small. From the outside the SUV looks big but inside is a different story.
I drove both QX80 and LX570. I have to say Lx570 has much better handling, epically on steep slope and winding road.
GAS!
Why no mention of the Infiniti Qx80
Apple and Android CarPlay are game changers. Shame not all new cars have it.
John Paul Roman for some reason no Toyota’s have it. It doesn’t really make sense. It’s the only reason I’m hesitant to look at a Toyota for my next car. I love them but I want Apple CarPlay
In lx & l.cruiser,Which has the best off-road ability?
abi michael l cruiser
Should I pick this LX or the escalade with about 60k miles? The escalade is cheaper at that point...
But more expensive to upkeep.
Does it use electric power steering or is it still hydraulic?
Bo Han it’s still hydraulic
ماشاء الله تبارك الله الله يرزقني مثلو 😊
The competitors for this car the bmw x7 mercedes gls Toyota Land Cruiser Range Rover Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator
AGAIN...You’re out of your mind. The 200 Series Landcruiser is a UN vehicle. With lockers, its unstoppable off-road. Period.
Larry Queen the lc200 in the US doesn(apostrophe)t have front & rear lockers (comma) it has the same center locker as in the LX(exclamation point)
@@Thebluebimmer does it come with factory lockers in other parts of the world?
The Land Cruiser is a better buy. Luggage racks should be standard at that price point.
I don’t ever buy into the “luxury” hype. If I want that 5.7L v8 power, I would get either the Sequoia or Tundra.
Agreed. But the sequoia is a bigger car, if that matters.
#toyotalove4ever
The land cruiser is the way to go. You get more for the same price.
I have GX470 ... boy its a beast
...vs Infinity QX80 vs another luxury 3 row suv's.
This is very nice
192 miles for 3/4 of the fuel tank? Is this normal or average?
Ahmed Elshehaby yea, that’s horrible. Good eye!
In my country land cruiser are way more cheaper than lexus there are huge gap in price
