At least it shows the Academy might learn from there mistakes for snubbing this film back in the day. It should have won Best Picture instead of The Greatest Show on Earth.
I remember this. What a wonderful moment (courtesy of Stanley Donen, no doubt). Donald was such a gent who never really got his due. I wish he were here to really see how important his work has become.
I can't believe they didn't even nominate Tina Turner's We Don't Need Another Hero (from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome), Pat Benatar's Invincible (from The Legend of Billie Jean) and Madonna's Crazy For You (from Vision Quest). All 3 songs are phenomenal
Well, I think that there's still one that tops them all, and wasn't nominated as well. It is also from one of the best films from 1985, namely The Breakfast Club. I'm of course referring to "(Don't You) Forget About Me" by the Simple Minds, written by Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff.

How delighted Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor would have been to know that their landmark film, Singin In The Rain, was re-released this year to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the production in theaters across the Country and in a comemorative edition boxed set. What a feeling!
1980's! Did you see the nominee in the audience with the spectacularly large spectacles? Big is back in eyewear. Watch lapels and neckties zoom out in and out and in 40's 50's 70's 80's ch-ch-changes.
It definitely should have won score. It should have won Best Picture too, but it wasn't even nominated. What's worse The Greatest Show on Earth won Best Picture instead which is considered one of the most controversial Best Picture winners.
This is what you call the presenters eclipsing the presented. And quite rightly so. I can't think of a worse song for these legendary performers to announce. Outrageous. You said it, Lionel.
This reunion of the trio from Singing in the rain was lovely. Just look at them, even after all those years [33 to be exact], how gorgeous they look. Our Debbie girl never ever seemed to age, that's because she lived a good life and didn't break up people's homes. Gene Kelly too, despite the passage of time, looks very handsome and, yes, he's sporting a toupee. Donald O'Connor was the surprise. He's gained weight in this video and is far from being that skinny, baby-faced kid, he used to look like in the early 50's. As evidenced in this video, the presenters in this video [Debbie, Gene and Donald] were the real stars and not those who won or receive nominations at the 1986 Oscars.
I did not know mr Lionel Richie won an Oscar for any of his music I did not know that, but that's wonderful cause this song is one song my baby brother Norman, and I, both loved, this is the song we both loved my Brothers loved rap, hip hop, old school, dusties, and R/B, Music, and ME, FOR ME I love it all, a little of all kinds of music, but WE both loved Lionel riches music, Especially say you, say me, say it together Naturally, every 7th and 14th of OCTOBER I PLAY SAY YOU SAY ME SONG ON THOSE DATES CAUSE ON THE 7TH OF OCT MY BROTHER PAST AWAY AND ON THE 14TH OF OCT IS MY BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY HE DIED 7 DAYS BEFORE HIS 55TH BIRTHDAY AND EVERY YEAR ON THE 7TH AND 14TH OF OCT I WILL PLAY SAY YOU SAY ME CAUSE MY MOTHER LOVED THAT SONG AND SO DO, MR LIONEL RICHIE AND MY BROTHER HAS SOMETHING IN COMMON HE WAS MARRIED TO A LADY NAME BRENDA, AND MY BROTHER WAS WITH A LADY FOR MANY YEARS AND HER NAME IS BRENDA WOW DIDN'T NO HIS MUSIC WON AN OSCAR BUT IM GLAD HE DID CAUSE MY BROTHER AND OUR MOTHER AND MYSELF WE ALL LOVE AND ENJOY MR LIONEL RICHIE MUSIC HE'S GREAT I WISH HIM AND HIS WHOLE FAMILY WELL.
Cute opening number, that's all he could say??they coulda danced a few beats,. Donald was the younger of the men and I'm guessing this was early eighties,,,??😘miss you lil Debbie Reynolds!!
Sorry Jennifer rush power of love or huey Lewis power of love?bc her song was written by her but feline got all the credit for her version ,given that,,,Jennifer rush is the original diva, she's from Queens NY and still sings like a song bird,,we miss you Debbie Reynolds
Gene Kelly died in the mid 90's after several strokes. Donald O'Connor passed away within the last decade as well. The only surviving member of the lead actors is Debbie Reynolds, who, I believe , is 80 and maintains an active career, with film and stage appearances.

Donald, that actor?
Patricia Ward Kelly, Billie Lourd and Irish filmmaker Pat O'Connor of the Cal fame were still here
with us.
Donald O’Connor still makin’ people laugh all these years later.
I had no idea about these three reuniting and donning the raincoats again. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing, Academy!

He's got such a kind face & kind voice... Lionel Richie's great!
Donald O'Connor never lost his charm 3
He's as cute as can be ☺️
How was there not a standing ovation for them?!
I was thinking the same thing
gene kelly & Donald O'Connor + Debbie reynolds, they are just simply adorable. simply cool and professional! love them!
Oh my gosh, to see Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor and Debbie just blew me away I came for the song this was extra bonus

Well said, they still owe him his lifetime achievement award. Even if his children accept it for him.
Congrats to Lionel Richie for his best original song in 1986 Oscars. : )

This was such a wonderful pleasure to see the three of them !!! LOVE THEM ALL ~♡♡♡♡

I agree especially from Singin' in the Rain. He was my favorite part of that movie. He cracks me up whenever he's on screen.
Without a doubt. Donald O'Connor was absolutely the best. There wasn't anything he couldn't do

These songs were great fun but honored both BET and Movie Music Award nominations for two years in a row (1986, 1987).
The didn't even pick up Rod Temperton in the camera at 1:38.
Miss Celies Blues or Separate Lives for mne , although i do love Say you say me, dont like the tempo change much

Wait...Huey Lewis was an Oscar nominee?!?!?
It's his only Oscar nomination to date.
Donald o connor and Debby r. Are happy to be on stage with gene Kelly yet they both didn't get a long with him while filming singing in the rain
