This might be my favourite comedy of the 21st century, full stop. Every actor just brings it, especially Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. (who actually received a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for the role, although nobody was going to beat Heath Ledger that year, who won posthumously, of course), and the writing is super-tight. This is the movie where Ben Stiller proved that he was one of the most intelligent people in Hollywood - this movie could've been a flabby disaster in less talented hands, but he kept it about as efficient and incisive in its commentary as possible. And the jokes are so memorable...and meme-able (most people have seen at least one or two memes from this movie - the "never go full r-word," "I'm a dude playin' a dude disguised as another dude," "I'm a rooster illusion")...truly brilliant stuff.
It is a real shame that content like this is not typically made nowadays...not because of the edgy humour (although that is possibly a factor, audiences are actually smart enough to know that there's a difference between an actor playing in blackface to mock African Americans, and an actor playing an ACTOR in blackface to mock...actors - particularly method actors), but because the studios have become so averse to risk that they will only finance films at this monetary level (with budgets of $100+ million USD) if they know that they will be cross-culturally accessible, that is to say, marketable in China (mainly). This is why we got so many superhero films in the 2010s (though audiences have been tiring of them recently). Heck, this movie even made a subtle little dig at that reality - in the "Satan's Alley" trailer, we learn that the film (about gay monks) won the "Crying Monkey Award" at the Beijing Film Festival. So the roots of the current stagnation of Hollywood, and the studios' desire to cater to Chinese sensibilities, were quite apparent even 15 years ago.

I'm so glad you reacted to this, this film is legendary. There are so many brilliant quotable moments in this.
"I thought we were a unit?!" "Suck my unit!!"
"Take a step back and literally **** your own face!"
"I know who I am, I'm the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another dude!"
    "I'm a lead farmer mother f*cker!"
And obviously the Les Grossman dance in the credits.
    Pure brilliance.

"Man, I don't drop character 'till I done the DVD commentary."
Fun Fact: When recording the audio commentary for the Unrated DVD and Blu-ray, Robert Downey, Jr. actually spends the entire commentary in the character that appears on the screen as the movie progresses.
Historical Fact: The South East Asian gang Flaming Dragon, led by a pre-teen boy, was modeled after God's Army, a guerrilla army in Myanmar. The group was led by twin brothers Johnny Htoo and Luther Htoo, who were nine years old when it was founded in 1997. Johnny and Luther Htoo were fond of American action movie heroes, especially the Rambo franchise.
Cruise Unbound Fact: Ben Stiller said nearly all aspects of the Les Grossman character were developed by Tom Cruise, including the dancing and the look of the make-up. Stiller said that in addition to the more obvious make-up effects applied to Cruise's face and head, and the extra hair on his chest and arms, Cruise also decided to play the character wearing oversized prosthetic hands.

This film is incredible, but I have two minor issues:
    1. If the film wasn't rolling when the explosion went off, how did Access Hollywood have footage?
    2. Kirk Lazarus did not actually undergo the pigment augmentation. It was just promotion for the film. Notice how white he is after his revelation.

22:37 - small plot hole. I don't know how much a famous actor is insured for by the studio, but I doubt the payout would be enough to cover a G5 airplane (starting price 50 million) and "lots of money". It would be cheaper to send rescue than trade silence for G5.
