All true but also note that Rick loves Evelyn so much that he begs her not to come and save him to spare her the danger. Imhotep loves Anck-su-namun more than she him, but just short of Rick's for Evy.
I realize that is not necessarily the intent of the scene, but still.

I read an article that it was intended to have a plotline where Anck-Su-Nanum had risen from a street urchin to the position of Pharaoh's concubine and actually intended to become ruler of Egypt and seduced Imhotep to use his powers against the Pharaoh so she could ascend to the throne. This plot was removed because it was not essential to the story.

Fun fact: both Imhotep and King Scorpion are actual historical figures though very little is known about them. Imhotep was known as a healer and was deified and worshipped throughout the ancient world. He is mostly known as an architect as he built the first pyramid.
The pharaoh, Seti the First, was in fact father of Ramses the Great. Ramses' wife was called Nefertari, which is similar to the name of Rachel's character.
Anck Su Namun is probably a variation of the name of Tutankamun's wife.

When I first saw this movie, I realized at the scene shown at 23:53 that the makers may have done more homework than I might have guessed. The sun god Ra was said to travel across the sky in a "solar barque" -- a small boat not unlike what Izzy's used as the basket of his airship.

I love the delivery of that line from Rachel Weisz "Why don't you pick on somebody your own size?" Sounded badass with a hint of vindictiveness. CGI Dwayne Johnson with a scorpion body is iffy, for sure. They could have had him as a full human acting like the ancient Medjai. Also, you can't help but feel sad for Imhotep when he gets betrayed by the woman he loves. A lot of us can relate to that heartbreak (myself included). Oh, and Rick had nothing to fear from that snake. Evy kicked a milksnake in her husband's direction. Its coloration allows it to mimic a coral snake, which is venomous. The way to tell the difference is by the orientation of the colored bands. "Red near black, venom lack (milksnake). Red near yellow, kill a fellow (coral snake)."

Evie being the reincarnated princess was kind of foreshadowed in the first film. remember when she told Rick that her mother was ancient egyptian? she says "Egypt is my blood." that was a bit of foreshadowing right there. anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. I know a lot of people hate on Alex but I found him to be a very enjoyable addition, and I liked that he was actually smart and was able to contribute to the team. you may as well continue with the 3rd movie but it's honestly my least favorite of the trilogy.

Yep, also just as Imhotep in the First Film is a composite of the IRL Imhotep,Marc Anthony and King Tut and Ancksanamun is a composite of her historical counterpart,Cleopatra and many other important women in Egyptian history except evil. The Scorpion King is a composite of the apostle Matthew(With whom he shares the name Mathayus),Hannibal of Carthage and the real King Scorpion(The first king of Egypt who like Mathayus started out as an assassin although whether he was native Egyptian or Akkadian like his fictional counterpart is hotly contested by historians, archaelogists and scholars) you probably won`t be surprised to hear that none of these people were evil IRL although the times and conditions they lived under often did force them to do things we`d consider evil by modern standards!Ancient times, medieval times were not in fact a fairy tale IRL and often necessitated hard choices and sacrifices. They didn`t have the luxury of black and white thinking we do as they lived in a time where survival of the fittest wasn`t "just a theory", it was the reality of their lives often through no choice of their own unless they were in the royal or priestly class and even then if you think there are too many laws nowadays,Ancient Egyptians were the first to have a legalistic afterlife! The Greek,Roman,Norse and Vedic pantheons were comparatively laissez-faire even though they still interfered in mortal affairs where deemed necessary to preserve the laws of nature!

  • @bradleyelsken622
    @bradleyelsken622 2 года назад +20

It must be said that the depiction of the ancient Egyptian belief system wasn't quite right. Sorry for the massive wall of text:
In the prologue, the Scorpion King offers his soul to Anubis in exchange for his life and the power for revenge on his enemies. The idea of selling a soul to an evil power (which Anubis isn't) is a purely folk Christian concept (it's not even Christian proper as Satan does not rule the damned). To make it more ridiculous, the offer itself had no sense as all deceased were destined to meet Anubis. You had to cross the desert after death first, to reach Anubis and have your soul deemed worthy. Not all made it through the trip, since there was dangers to be met on the way.
On another note, the depiction of a hellish underworld in the final battle is not consistent with Egyptian mythology. There was no equivalent of Hell in the Ancient Egyptian religion, as there was only one afterlife, Duat. Punishment for the wicked was not eternal torment, but having their souls eaten by Ammit the Devourer, which simply erased you from existence completely (something the Ancient Egyptians feared more than anything, due to the importance of souls). Only the souls who had lived their life purely and honestly were allowed by Osiris to be born again.
It also means there was no way Anck-Su-Namun could have been resurrected or reincarnated as Meela - Anck-Su-Namun betrayed and killed Pharaoh (embodiment of God Amun-Ra on Earth) and committed suicide - such crimes meant that her soul would have been devoured by Ammit in afterlife and erased from existence.
In fact, Imhotep couldn’t have been resurrected again either. In the first movie after incantation he was stripped off his invincibility caused by the curse (God Anubis literally came and took it all away) and became mortal again - then he was stabbed to death by Rick. It means Imhotep finally died a normal natural death, so his soul would have been devoured by Ammit in the afterlife for all his misdeeds and erased from existence as well.
But movies have done this since the beginning of time, and I guess reality can be benta little if it makes for suitable entertainment.
    Great reaction as always :)

Gods of Egypt does a bit better in bringing/showing egyptian mythology
the mummy trilogy was really only loosely exploring/using about egypt's brief monotheism with akhenaten, as this was made known to the general public back then, and thus made popular, and turned into the mummy trilogy movies
      imhotep (movie) "=" akhenaten (history)

Someone's been paying attention to their Rick Riordan Egyptian Trilogy. XD (Kidding, but that's where I learned this stuff.)

Getting stabbed is a normal NATURAL death? lol, also being erased from existence sounds alot better then reincarnation. Eternal life sounds awful and more of a punishment then anything. Living over and over stuck in a loop of blind obedience to Ra. Eternal life is simply fear of death.I'll take a fun death and erased from existence everytime.

Nice reaction 😊👍🏻 A funny film, but of course not as good as the first one. The Rock at the end as such a very bad CGI makes it a bit lousy.
And because you asked why mummies can walk on walls like Spiderman. Here comes the answer: because the director wants it that way 😂

As much as I love those movies, it still irks me a bit that they chose to name the villain Imhotep. There really was a guy named Imhotep and he was a great architect, cleric and possibly also a writer and physician during pharaoh Djoser's reign. He made such an impact on the Egyptian people, that they deityfied him decades and centuries after his death. And now his name is 99% associated with 'bad guy mummy', which I think is a bit sad.
They overall made a decent job with researching the ancient Egyptian history (like which God is responsible for what and how are they represented), so yeah, a little bit of salt in a otherwise hilarious and awesome popcorn movie.

Even at the time this came out, the Scorpion King reveal in the final battle was not good. We were so disappointed they did the CIG of him. To this day I still wish they had put Dwayne's torso on the scorpion body. Still, I love this movie and its predecessor. The third movie? Nope.
