The brothers always kept press and product to a minimum so I'm very eager for this book. I always wanted a book by Eddie but this will be just as cool. I'm selfish but I want to see Alex play again, even if it's a one off show. Either way, I hope he has peace. EVH and AVH are my two favorite musicians

Alex was great especially during the Roth era. For me
there are 5 rock drummers that had their own sound. Like you listen to a song and can tell who it was
    1. John Bonham
    2. Ian Paice
    3. Neil Peart
    4. Bill Ward
And 5. Alex Van Halen loved his sound and drumming on the Roth albums

Eddie did once say that the "brown sound" was Alex's drumming! He's definitely in my top 5 of great drummers. I wonder if Michael Anthony will write a book. That would be something!!

Mike kind of alluded to wanting to write his memoirs if he had the time.
Though he did stress that he wouldn’t include any VH dirt if he ever wrote a book. True class act, that guy.

The backstory on Alex’s parents is pretty interesting, so I’m sure that will be in the book, Dave’s talked about sitting for hours with Jan talking about being a Dutch POW playing for Nazi officers. Their mom resented Jan’s music career (up to 1972 when he lost his finger) because they were always broke and he was always drinking, and I’m sure he’ll get into his mom trying to discourage the boys to play, as well as dealing with racism being half Indonesian - for some reason it was never as noticeable with Ed as it was with Alex (no doubt factoring why he wore shades a lot). I’m sure stories about making the records, the clubs to the arenas, some of the debauchery and band drama will be in there. When it comes out,Sammy’s only going to read the parts that mention him in it. Dave will probably get an advance copy….and Sammy will have to PAY for his copy! 😄 Sammy tried to convince Eddie not to have Alex get publishing royalties because he didn’t co-write, but Eddie said that was not up for discussion, end of story. Def. looking forward to this book because Alex was to VH what Malcolm Young was to AC/DC, he didn’t say much in interviews either, but fans know they were both major decision makers in those groups. There’s also the possibility he might change his mind and decide not to release it so, fingers crossed.

Btw-I only see Big Al ever play again with Wolfie, thats it. They have that family bond, and Al ain't playin' with anyone else. I think in the coming years he and Wolfie will release Ed's music, clean it up,maybe have Wolfie sing on it,maybe Dave too. But I dont think Hagar will ever be welcomed as a friend to Al ever again. I remember reading that Ed and Sam spoke before he died, but never with Al. Too many bullshit words hurled from Hagar, plus that book sealed his fate. He probably just prefers to forget Sam even exists nowdays, and never speak to him if he can avoid it.

I read Van Halen Rising, it was quite good. I'm about to read, Unchained: The Eddie Van Halen Story and My Effin' Life (Geddy Lee). Sammy Hagar Rules!! Ha ha ... I actually don't mind Van Hagar. Of course, the best years were with Dave.

    • @muziktrkr
      @muziktrkr 6 месяцев назад +2

Geddy’s book mentions Ray Danniels, who managed Van Halen when Peart took a long break, and for some reason, Hagar really hated. I’m sure Ray will be mentioned in Alex’s book because they had been brothers in law.

I agree about "Van Halen III" bombing really taking the wind out of their sails. It seems like Eddie and Alex (though, mostly Eddie) got it into their heads that they alone were the appeal of Van Halen and that they could make great and/or commercially successful music without Dave or Sammy. When that turned out to not be the case, they probably felt pretty embarrassed reuniting with singers they thought they didn't need and got less outgoing as a result.
That said, even if they don't sound like great bandmates to non-family members, I do appreciate how loyal Alex and Eddie were to each other. When you compare them to bands like CCR, The Kinks, or Oasis, it's really refreshing to see musical siblings getting along with each other and rarely if ever going for each others' throat. Because of that, I'm pretty interested to see Alex Van Halen's memoirs and see his perspective on things.

The problem with these books is everyone is the hero of their own story. Keith Richard’s book Life for instance. I love Keef but he did no wrong in his eyes even when he was junked out for years. Motley Crue’s Dirt was the guys slinging on the other guys. I imagine Al and Ed will come out smelling like roses at the end of the story.

Hagar comes off like such an entitled prick. He'd be another Ted Nugent if he never joined this legendary band. He shouldnt be even speaking for this band anymore. Only the kid,Al,and Dave, thats it. Not even Mikey should say anything since he's been gone for decades from that band. He got his own ass fired by siding with Sam and going on those tours when he was still a member of VanHalen. He stroked the flames,he knew what might happen, the brothers just said fuck this guy and let him go. You side with Sam Hagar or do you stick with the brothers, the guys who gave you a career? Anyways I'm getting side tracked. When Reverend Al's book comes out I'll be all over that thing. You know its coming,Al and Ed have always said what they've felt, and Al's been quiet for too long. If Hagar thinks he had any chance of mooching off the legendary VanHalen then thats about to change. Al is gonna air out his views on that red tampon. Sam,you had your fun with your book, and now its time Al has his. That book when it releases is gonna break Sam Hagar's mooching tequilla selling black heart. Oh yeah! We'll be there with the popcorn and beer ready to see the melt down when Sam Hagar reacts to it. hahahaha! I love it.
