I have to disagree with you about Joe Satriani, Doc. I think 95% of his fan base are guitarists considering 90% or more of his music is instrumental. He is a shredder and all his music is geared in that direction. Maybe that's why I like him :) I am sad to see him playing with Sammy Hagar, though and we all know no one is gonna play like Eddie did. I dislike several bands you love (WASP, Cheap Trick, Abba, ...) but that's my loss, your good fortune. That's why my ears are on my head and yours are on yours LOL
I have friends that are super excited about this tour. I don't get it. Jason Bonham seems like an ok dude, but he can't swing like Alex. Michael Anthony seems like another likable fellow and image wise he was a perfect fit for the original VH. His backing vocals are often touted as the secret weapon of the band, but Eddie also sang backing vocals. It was the mesh of those voices that worked so well and since Wolfie could also sing high, it's one reason why Mikey was out on the Dave reunion years. Like you Ralph, I've never understood Satriani's appeal either. His style of guitar just bores me. He does, also however seem like a decent guy. Then we get to Sammy whom everyone praises as sounding great at 76 years old. Well, it doesn't hurt that the songs are tuned a whole or more steps down. He can't hit the original notes for sure. Which isn't that big a deal except Sammy always acts like he's such a great singer plus lyricist. His lyrics are so crappy. Time and time again he's proved himself an ass over the years (with his autobiography ripping on Eddie as one example), yet the Samites will still flock to him. One the bright side, you'll have no dearth of material next year as this tour gets going. I also call BS on Sammy going on about them only having one rehearsal before doing all of those tracks on Stern.

When he invites him and AVH, he says “we’ll do the old stuff if Dave wants to, whatever songs he remembers the lyrics to, we’ll do them”. It was either on Howard or Eddie Trunk that he said that. I can’t remember which one, but that was insane! The hypocrisy of claiming you don’t have a problem with Dave, and inviting him to come on stage, while bashing him?! No wonder Dave and AVH want nothing to do with him. Personally, I do enjoy a bit of the material they did with Sammy, but I think especially since EVH’s death, Sammy has shown us all publicly why they don’t want to be around him.
Years ago, Dave said on Stern that Irving Azoff brought Sam and Dave in the same room and Sammy kept muttering DLR’s name over and over,like he was being forced to be there, and Dave took that as a challenge. Had he not done that, Dave would have been cool with Hagar. For Dave not to be at the Rock Hall induction was kind of strange though.

Brutal! I understand the boredom factor with Joe Satriani. First of all, he is a super nice guy, so I'll get that out of the way. This is not an indictment of him as a person. That being said, he was the first "guitar hero" I ever heard that was (to my ears) a boring, mechanical mish-mash of everyone that had come before him. "Satch Boogie" was just a rip-off of Eddie and Billy Gibbons. Where was Joe in that tune? He sounded exactly like a guy that had taught guitar and never spent time on his own coming up with anything identifiable. Joe Bonamassa to me, also fits in that category. Super nice guy as well. No question about it. Satch taught a lot of guitarists to all play generically. The same thing happened in jazz and bluegrass - all the players tend to sound the same after a while. The old-school guys who pioneered the format were the originals and played with soul, because it was true self-expression. You aren't going to feel a darn thing when someone is expressing someone else's style/feelings.

Check the tour dates. Sammy scheduled too many dates too close together. Many two in a row then only one day off. His voice won't be able to recover. He's gonna sound strained and won't be able to hit the notes. Aerosmith/RHCP take two nights off after every gig. I don't know what Sammy was thinking. I think he's gonna have to cancel dates. I'm not hating on Sammy...I just truly believe he crammed way too many dates too close together for his voice to recover. Gonna be the next Vince Neil.
Roth Never Could sing a Hagar song; look up VH doing Montrose back before VH became big; even tuned down Roth couldn't match Hagar in singing. The Only thing Roth Ever had was his showmanship and he Stole that from BOA's lead singer Jim Dandy!!

Thanx again for the Only News That Matters even if for me it doesn’t go down as easy as usual. I got my tickets and saved them to my iPhone days after the tour was announced. Until I’m proven otherwise I expect the show to be good. On the positive side, Sammy Hagar will hopefully be singing some of the Rothra because I do agree the Anthony isn’t great as a lead singer. The Roth songs that Hagar singed in the past were Unchanined, Really Got Me, Panama, Jump, Ain’t Talkin, & maybe another one. Hopefully Sammy will be singing some of those. In addition, they are going to bring in a keyboard player to play the songs with keyboard parts and also will be helping Sammy sing the tough parts. At least everything will be live which is more than you can say for many bands. Plus it’s been many, many years since there has been live keyboards for a Van Halen show. For many, many years they’ve been using tapes but now will be completely live. Thanks for reading.
While I can understand why you dislike Sammy, I don’t get your issue with Satriani. I have the entire Van Halen, Van Hagar, Chickenfoot and Satriani discographies and enjoy them all. On the other hand, I only know other person (other than you) that likes heavy music AND Oasis, which is a band that all heavy rockers seem to dislike (me included) except a song here and there. When VH was performing after Mikey left it was very evident what was missing. Wolfies great don’t get me wrong, but those high harmonies were missing.
Saw Alex and Jason at different times Live back in the 80's; Jason isn't his dad but he still Buried Alex on the drums.

Honestly, this is just pathetic.
I do like Joe (who I just saw a year ago) and Mike, but they're all being assholes in basically calling this a Van Halen tribute show, while being sly with the 'Best Of Both Worlds' so Alex can't sue to stop it. It's a close to copyright violation without doing it, and the rest of the band should be ashamed for being apart of it. But hey, I guess anything for a buck for these old men that just can't let go.

Brutal! I understand the boredom factor with Joe Satriani. First of all, he is a super nice guy, so I'll get that out of the way. This is not an indictment of him as a person.
That being said, he was the first "guitar hero" I ever heard that was (to my ears) a boring, mechanical mish-mash of everyone that had come before him. "Satch Boogie" was just a rip-off of Eddie and Billy Gibbons. Where was Joe in that tune? He sounded exactly like a guy that had taught guitar and never spent time on his own coming up with anything identifiable. Joe Bonamassa to me, also fits in that category. Super nice guy as well. No question about it.
Satch taught a lot of guitarists to all play generically. The same thing happened in jazz and bluegrass - all the players tend to sound the same after a while. The old-school guys who pioneered the format were the originals and played with soul, because it was true self-expression. You aren't going to feel a darn thing when someone is expressing someone else's style/feelings.
I have to respectfully disagree on the Joe Satriani evaluation, sir Ralph. I saw him the summer up here in Massachusetts at our local small theater and I thought he was absolutely f'n incredible! Other than that, I thought the semi stuff was a fucking riot.😂Never been an overly big fan of vanilla Sammy. I won't be going, not for me.

Check the tour dates. Sammy scheduled too many dates too close together. Many two in a row then only one day off. His voice won't be able to recover. He's gonna sound strained and won't be able to hit the notes. Aerosmith/RHCP take two nights off after every gig. I don't know what Sammy was thinking. I think he's gonna have to cancel dates. I'm not hating on Sammy...I just truly believe he crammed way too many dates too close together for his voice to recover. Gonna be the next Vince Neil.

I got my tickets and saved them to my iPhone days after the tour was announced. Until I’m proven otherwise I expect the show to be good.
On the positive side, Sammy Hagar will hopefully be singing some of the Rothra because I do agree the Anthony isn’t great as a lead singer.
The Roth songs that Hagar singed in the past were Unchanined, Really Got Me, Panama, Jump, Ain’t Talkin, & maybe another one. Hopefully Sammy will be singing some of those.
In addition, they are going to bring in a keyboard player to play the songs with keyboard parts and also will be helping Sammy sing the tough parts. At least everything will be live which is more than you can say for many bands. Plus it’s been many, many years since there has been live keyboards for a Van Halen show. For many, many years they’ve been using tapes but now will be completely live. Thanks for reading.

While I can understand why you dislike Sammy, I don’t get your issue with Satriani. I have the entire Van Halen, Van Hagar, Chickenfoot and Satriani discographies and enjoy them all.
On the other hand, I only know other person (other than you) that likes heavy music AND Oasis, which is a band that all heavy rockers seem to dislike (me included) except a song here and there. Go figure.

Thank goodness for your video. You know that as soon as the news broke awhile back that Diamond Dave and Alex reached out to Satriani for a tribute show, it riled Hammy up.
