Thank you from my heart. I have spent many days looking for understandable introduction to FreeCad. You are the first person I have met who, logically, linguistically, visually and slowly, has managed to introduce me to the beginnings of the FreeCad universe. Thanks again. Sincerely Flemming Geel
well done, I've muddled through serveral others but you showed several features that moved my previous experience with other cad systems to familiar and useful
Great video, it's been well over 25 years since I even looked at CAD. Now I want to start into 3d printing so I have to develop the models. This is step one. I'll be working my way through your entire series. I have a basic working knowledge of German as well, so I'll give some of them a try too. O7
Great videos for me just started with Fcad keep them coming you explain it very well for the beginner. look to forward to your video's on this 0.18 version and Thank You for the share, have a nice day !!! Brian UK.
I'm using 0.18 but everything looks different, so struggling to follow, I find this program to be completely impenetrable so was hoping learn the basics.
Thanks for the very well presented introduction....... The installation went perfectly. However its a little frustrating that the default icons installed across the top of the screen are NOT located like yours. After a little tinkering I finally got it to look like yours which made following the video much better. All went well, the box and cylinder combined at 70% transparency, oh yeah. However after the cut of the second cylinder the "finished cut part" transparency was all screwed up switched to flat shaded sides and rotating the part the transparency flickered on and off mostly mostly off......... question; is this just a win10 bug,(64bit, quad core Intel processor) or some default setting not changed,? I watched the video 3 times carefully pausing and backing up, each time from scratch with the same results. ..... For my project I prefer the semi transparency to be working properly. like it is in your video. (I got so frustrated I had to go out to the kitchen and help the Wife bake some cookies.) Can you help? Thanks for the good start.... Oh yeah the cookies helped and were GREAT. LOL
Hi, i guess it is a graphic card issue. Please read in the Forum about such. There is also a setting in the graphic settings that can influence that behaviour. I might later look what it was.
Hi and thank you for a step by step tutorial excellent. But i have just downloaded the FreeCad 0.18 and my menu bar is slightly different to yours and have no cube on my menu bar can you please help thanks Greg
PROBLEM: I have a cube and inserted 6 cylinders half their radius into the cube. I was able to successfully perform a "CUT OF TWO SHAPES" Twice, but it wouldn't let me cut out the other 4. Thoughts?
Sir - I went over and over….26:19 - 26:27. Some way you highlighted the Fusion and the Cylinder without highlighting the tree in the middle……what did you do???? To cut hole in big cylinder???
You indicated that you cut the small cylinder out of the large cylinder - that isn't correct. You cut the small cylinder out of the union between the small cylinder and the large cylinder (the 'fusion' object). It is a small technical, point, but it is very important in understanding the FreeCad philosophy - an operation such as union creates a new object, which you can then continue to work on. Working with that object (the union) is different than working with one of the components (the large cylinder).
When you change the transparency at 22:06 I only get a wireframe no matter what percent and then the object gets really hard to move or rotate. What am I doing wrong. Thanks!
When I follow your tutorial (which is very helpful, thank you) I get the same result EXCEPT when I resize the diameter of the first cylinder after the cylinder and cuboid have been "fused". When I change the cylinder radius the figure changes there but visually the part does not update to show the smaller diameter. Any idea what I am doing wrong please?
@@hagei406 I see what you are saying but I followed EXACTLY the same as in your tutorial (identical dimensions, positioning, etc). I even restarted and did again to make sure I followed the same but it did not resize like yours did? I am slightly confused now!
hello Patrick I also had that at one occasion. I figured it was something I had done and closed it out without saving and started from scratch again. wish I could tell you what I did wrong. and would if I could. best of luck.
Sir - I am having a LOT of problems making a 19" rack mount panel with lots of little vent slits - the slits cause my PC to stall. I am told I should use one of the workbenches or something. I put it on the forum, but still no result. Can you help? If you want you can contact me via my website. I make watches.
i just doanloaded freecad 0.18 and my button options are very limited. How do i get buttons like primitives "create a cylinder" and mouse mode "gesture mode" which doesn't appear on my screen?
@@hagei406 oh no i didnt. i just clicked "file new", oops. When i selected part design workbench i did get more buttons but still had to right click on top bar, where all the buttons appear, to make additional buttons appear by selecting everything from "File" to "Measure". Also dont see the "mouse mode" option at the bottom of the screen. I had to right click on the (workspace?) and select gesture under "Navigation Styles". Thank you for your help with something so simple.
Using v .18, At 17.45 your left click shows a move icon and you can rotate and move the cube, but when I left click all I get is a hand icon that does nothing. My mouse (actually a Logitech trackball) is set to “Gesture”. What do you think I am doing wrong?
it´s left clicking and holding down in that context. Just verified in it is taht way. If it does not move in your cas.. it may be a graphic issue or a weird mouse setting behind FC. Please ask that in the Forum, there i suspect someone can help. Or search there for MOUSE , there are several threads like this : forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=12109
Thank You! I was holding and moving but all I got was a "Hand" icon that moved but did nothing to the cube. I will follow your advice and check with the forim.
I just loaded up .18.15860 windows 64 bit, and its badly broken. Any 3D view rotates madly as soon as you click into a view and keeps going in what ever direction you pick. So its useless.
@@hagei406 how can any setting for the mouse that can be selected be "wrong" . I use gesture, but changing had no effect. I really don't want to bother with posting in the forum.. I will just stay on .17 till the .18 release.

Thank you! This is the video I have learned from and it taught me well. I have now spent hundreds of hours in FreeCAD doing countless things.
I am looking to design a small part to get printed and your video has been most helpful. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
Thank you! This was very easy to understand and really showed me how powerful FreeCAD is.

Ok. Fantastic! Explained some basics and how to do "combine parts" and "cut out" very straightforward. Many thanks.
Thank you!! this was a very good walkaround it really made more interested in learning FreeCad

no need to select cylinder and cube anymore. They are "inside" the Fusion already. Yes and the result was the hole inside the bigger cylinder
