      @Kieran Braylon thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
      I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.

    Thanks for the helpful video! I had used FreeCAD spreadsheets to set master dimensions, but didn't know you could use a Sketch for the same purpose.

    Thank you for taking the time to show.
    Personally Cad is so slow and to much going on to make stuff for 3D printing.
    I use Matter control and I could do what you have done in around 5 minutes.
    But I want to learn Free cad for CNC that has complicated toolpath's and so I will keep watching you vids to learn :)

    "create an edge to an external geometry" geometery does not seem to work. I get a second square, but bigger.

    Only one problem. People with not so good eye site the cursor disapear and is way to small. There is ways to make this better. Some sites you can downlpad it from. Thanks

    I alway find it better to create just a Helperline sketch and use that as reference for sizes and diameters. I never use the pink sketch references.
    When using this example the entire document will break when just adding e.g. another radius to the master sketch.
    Not using any references was the only way that kept a part from falling apart when editing. I always use a master sketch with all lines and then Datum planes and sketches which I position using the values defined in the master sketch. External Geometrie should not be used unless FreeCADs broken reference system get fixed.

    Awesome tutorial!
    I have one issue when i created a mesh it is not smooth like its for you, i can see faces and few of them are distorted on the beveled inner circle.

    • @hagei406
      @hagei406  2 года назад +1

      This can be a setting in your Freecad , check how it looks in the Slicer. In Freecad the meshes are just estimated . Also check that you mesh as "Standard" with the same settings i use in my Videos

    • @Michal.mikhael
      @Michal.mikhael 2 года назад

      @@hagei406 In slicer it looks the same, those bevels are not smooth an some particular faces are kinda flat, Also i sued the same default setting as you for create mesh.
      But however i also tried to just export it as stl without creating a mesh and then it looks ok, so i would ask you whats the purpose of creating a mesh?
      snipboard.io/9z5Uah.jpg
      here is screenshot with those distortions and not smooth bevel, i hope url is displayed?

    • @hagei406
      @hagei406  2 года назад +1

      @@Michal.mikhael When you export directly as STL Mesh is created automatically. But with creating a mesh first and then exporting it, you have more control over the process. Maybe some setting is wrong. Also, the video was loooong ago V0.18 and maybe things changed.

    Thanks for your videos. It seems like you know your way around FreeCad. When I use FreeCad I always get greyed out or error things in the combobox structure. Yes I am a noob but I guess I am not alone in not understanding what I do wrong to generate these errors. Do you have any know-how on how to avoid these roadblocks regarding what to do and what to avoid to break the object structure when using FreeCad? You never seem to get them in your videos. Maybe a subject for a future video?

    • @niklaswennerstrand1010
      @niklaswennerstrand1010 4 года назад

      @@hagei406 No I do not know what I do wrong I usually solve things by saving frequently and retry things in a different order or a different way. One thing I have learned is to never put fillets on a design until the very end. I am not looking for you to answer a specific question. I have not seen anyone explain the object view in a video. Just more a suggestion on a topic to make a video about.

    • @voytechj
      @voytechj 4 года назад +1

      @@niklaswennerstrand1010 When comes to Fillets or Chamfers their constructions are based on particular edges that were maid in previous steps. If your adjustment in previous step makes new mesh with different structure then steps based on chosen edge number will give you errors.
      For example if you have pocket in the middle of a part then changing size of a pocket most likely not change a mesh structure but only position of vertices. But if you move your sketch hole into the edge of previous solid mesh, then you will get open hole and and different structure of a mesh. If a fillet was based for example on Edge15 then in new mesh structure Edge15 will be in different place. You will get fillet in most unexpected place but still can get no errors. Sometimes that edge will be in such a place that fillet can't be constructed and you will get errors.
      So, be careful with features that works on concrete faces or edges.

      I had errors when I followed Harald's instructions typing in 2,5 mm. But no error when I type 2.5 mm. My FreeCAD installation didn't like the comma. Perhaps it's a setting in Preferences.

    Hi, I’m following your instructions and when I want to get to “Create an edge linked to external geometry,” it won’t let me do that. It will mark an error when I'm over the line?

    • @hagei406
      @hagei406  4 года назад

      At which time ?

    • @BradfordNeedham
      @BradfordNeedham 3 года назад +1

      If your external geometry is in a different FreeCAD Body, just clicking won't work. In that case, you'd need to use a Shape Binder. See wiki.freecadweb.org/PartDesign_ShapeBinder. Once you've created a Shape Binder in your destination Body, that has references to the edges you want from your source Body, you can then refer to the edges in the Shape Binder via links to external geometry, just as if the Shape Binder were a Sketch in your destination Body.
