My favorite symphonic movie soundtrack is probably 1982's _Poltergeist_ soundtrack composed by Jerry Goldsmith. It doesn't make me think of winter or anything, but it really resonated with me when I first heard it back in the 80s. To the point where as a young teenager I literally bought a vinyl LP of the soundtrack even though I didn't have a record player of my own to listen to it. Prior to that I had only ever bought cassette tapes. I don't listen to it a lot these days, but because it is so evocative of a time when I was young, it will always be my favorite, I think.
La Boheme by Puccini is my go-to Christmas opera. Two-thirds of the story take place in winter. I also love Tchaikovsky's The Seasons for piano (October through to March are my favorites) along with the Nutcracker, both orchestrated and for piano. Then there is Arvo Pärt's music. A lot feels wintry. Similar with Schubert's late sonatas. Another one, Dvorak's Dumky Trio. The 3rd movement has this winter snowfall feeling. But I definitely need to check out Hansel and Gretel now. The music sounds perfect for Christmas.
My Winter Daydreams is a recording with Lorin Maazel conducting the Vienna Philharmonic from 1965. Splendid. "The Nutcracker" I've got the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, 2009. Tchaikovsky has got the whole thing down when it comes to winter. Ice glistening in the moonlight. The crunch of snow under your feet. Clear night when you can hear bells from far away. I think that Tchaikovsky put his all in the ballet. I can hear what should have been a symphony, or a violin concerto, or a fantasy overture. Anyways, you have a good holiday season.
The 1st movement of Sibelius's violin concerto comes to mind for "winter violin concerti." Beautiful.
When I think of a Christmas Symphony, Mahler 4 comes immediately in mind
One of the best symphonies ever written... my second favorite Mahler symphony after his second.

If the Rattle recording is the one from Spotify, it's also the one that I listen to most of the time🙌🏻
sibelius violin concerto gives me a winter vube i dont know why
vibe 😬
4:37 when I heard this, I immediately thought of the pas de deux from the final act. Who knew a simple scale could have such a melancholic impact.
winterdream!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Just a fantastic symphony👊
When I listen to the ballet section, my feeling is like “I got it”.
😂
La Boutique Fantasque always puts me in a different space.
For opera I would have chosen La Boheme
