Splendid choice of performance ... There is no better way to practice this heavenly music than with John Eliot Gardiner: when one has learned to master this level of style and tempo, one is prepared for even the most demanding performance ... Personally, I believe that Bach himself would have been amazed by the dazzling tempo of some parts but after a few seconds of accustomizing he would probably have loved it ... Thank you very much Gerubach for your valuable and educative contribution to both enjoyment and performances of this great music ... Soli Deo Gloria !!

God damn--I need to be profane because I just feel so great!--Ehre sei dir Gott is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. There's something about the descending scales (?) of the sopranos and altos at 2:06 that just puts a chill in my spine and a lump in my throat. I'm not religious, but if this is the way to venerate God, then I'm all game for it! I even belted it out off-key and drunk out of my mind on New Year's Eve 2017 (which was, incidentally, the first Sunday of the New Year and precisely when Ehre sei dir Gott should be sung). It just has so much infectious and great energy!
