Sadly Esna's story isn't a happy one. Basically the company kinda screwed her out of this song which was HER song but she got relegated to the back as a "feature" and then pushed out of the promotions altogether because she isn't traditionally pretty. She made a parody song of this later called "Ahh Shit!" lol. But I don't think she has any ill will towards Mamamoo themselves.
@@autumneagle oh, esna still loves the girls and gushes on instagram and such any time she gets to see them (usually when she goes to translate for them at kcons and such) when they come here to the states. which, of course, hasn't been since 2019, but she was host/translator for them at kcon la back then

The plotline to Um Oh Ah Yeah is so wild I don't blame anyone for being confused (esp without subs). Solar is in love with Moonbyul, yes, then when that roller skating girl comes in, she says "unnie, who is this girl?" Which tells Solar that moonbyul is a girl and not a guy and she loses her shit lmao. Some cool things about that song include that UOAY is a little bit of a subtle parody commentary on men exhibiting the same behavior that solar does in the MV. Also, solar was actually meant to also crossdress like the rest of mmm but something came up (I'm pretty sure they didn't have the budget for an actress/actor so Solar had to take up the maid role). And finally, UOAY is a gay anthem in Korea and they play it at pride festivals all the time! bc it's one of VERY few MVs back in 2015 that gave representation to wlw, however brief it was. :)
AHH OOP! is still my favorite song between the two though. Byul's rap is awesome, especially live. Like wow. 😳

As others have mentioned, watching the MVs on MMM's yt channel is the way to go. Here's why: there are always two official MVs, one on MMM's channel and the other on a music distributor's channel such as Stone Music Entertainment or 1theK. The MVs on MMM's channel are subtitled while only the most recent MVs on the alt channel are subtitled and even then they're not as good as the subs on MMM's. A standard yt search will ONLY yield the MV on the music dist channel so you have to go to MMM's channel and use the channel search field to find the MV you want.
eSNa wrote Ahh Oop! and several other songs during MMM's early days, including co-composing the music to Piano Man. She's not a featured guest - it's a collab song. eSNa was signed to RBW at that time as a singer-songwriter and she wanted Ahh Oop to be a solo song but RBW talked her into doing it with MMM. RBW didn't treat her well and squeezed her out during the promotions for the song and eSNa is still bitter about it, tho she didn't blame the girls and has remained friends with MMM. eSNA uploaded a diss version called Ahh Shit! that's pretty funny and is worth a listen. Her solo version of Ahh Oop was included on her only album at RBW before leaving the label. eSNa is originally from the US and she's back in the states now.
There's a lot going on in the Um Oh Ah Yeah MV and tho it's very funny it's also satirical. My take on it is that they're sending up male sexual misbehavior and male fantasies about women while asking a few questions about gender and sexuality while they're at it. Hence Solar's naughty French maid and coffee, tea or me stewardess characters and the scenes of sexual harassment and drink drugging, etc. Watch it again with subs to learn what roller girl says to Moonbyul that triggers Solar at the end. 🤣
eSNa is actually still in Korea! She's been posting updates hinting at some music in the works, whether it be for her or if she's writing for others again, it hasn't been clear. She also runs a podcast with various mainly Korean celebs/musicians as guests, and that's where she did the tell-all about Ah Oop in case anyone is curious for more detail :) I've been a fan of hers for a long time & she used to upload personal vlogs back in the day that had pre-debut/rookie MMM in them which is how I got introduced to the group.
@@Nicoleicole Thanks! That's cool. I saw a vid on her channel that seemed to indicate she was living in the states. Maybe she was visiting the US or I was just confused and thought she had left Korea. I'd love to hear new music by her. I'll keep an eye on her channel for updates.
esna is a korean-american singer-songwriter who worked in south korea from 2012 to about 2018, much of that time with rbw, mamamoo's agency. she's since moved back to the united states. she's got two youtube channels, if you're interested
she actually was involved in a fair number of mamamoo's early songs, listed as composer, writer or lyricist for things such as both their predebuts and "piano man", among others. "ahh oop" was supposed to be her debut song, a song she'd been sitting on for a while and was very close to her heart. she got convinced to share it with mamamoo then, over time, got pushed out of promoting her own song because of how the korean public recieved her (they didn't like her at all, appearance, attitude and more didn't match what they're used to so talked a lot of crap about her. like we saw with hwasa in the guide). she's not happy with the way rbw handled things for obvious reasons, but she still absolutely loves the mamamoo members, has been their translator any time they've been here in the states, even crossing the country to do so. and she and they always gush over being able to see each other
I feel so bad for her! She did an amazing job because I love both piano man and ahh oop! The writing and composition was very impressive!
At the end of Um Oh Ah Yeah the girl (another idol) says basically "sis, who's this girl?" letting Solar know Moonbyul is a girl not a boy so she freaks out
I love Solar's vocal. Oh my God! I think I'm addicted by her vocals but still moonbyul is still my bias her rap is just amazing💞

I recommend you watch it on its official channel, before the fandom streams on other channels 🙄 but the official one has subtitles, I recommend paint me, Starry night or decalcomine 💙

Esna is a songwriter/singer who was under Mamamoo’s company in the early years. She wrote Ahh Oop, co-composed Piano Man and co-wrote/co-composed on some of their early songs. She’s an incredibly talented woman definitely look into her more
Mamamoo like to experiment with music styles and genres so you will get a lot of different kinds of music from them

MAMAMOO does not have a style as such, they have gone through most styles, even hip hop and rap, you can notice that with every song they have, since none of them look alike Where are they dressed as men is a parody and each one is playing someone

Ahhahaha nooo Mamamoo channel has Mamamoo name on it there are basically all with subs, ah oop such a good MV and song!! And um oh ah yeah it's super cathy and fun, so the part you didn't have sub it's like, the girls that comes says "unnie who is this girl"? And solar says "you where a girl?!" It's really funny 🤣🤣 the next should be 1cm tall, and you're the best, search for the mv on the Mamamoo channel for 1cm the lyrics are very funny!!

there's a whole drama with ahh oop song that came out in 2018 or 2019 i think. the song was written by esna and its supposed to be her debut song. her company convinced her to do a collab with mamamoo but when they do stage performance. there's no waiting room dedicated for esna nor esna name on the feature list, as if she wasnt a part of the song.
"um oh ah yeah" got quite a lot of attention as it was their first foray into 'real' pop, the stuff expected of kpop artists. people weren't sure what to think of the mv, how they playfully messed with the 'boys will be boys' stuff people are used to defending for men
because of the ending, where solar finds out the guy she's been chasing was a girl all along, then the chorus went back into the chorus about falling in love the song was embraced by the lgbtq+ community and is guaranteed to be played at every pride festival in south korea. the girls as a whole do a lot of stuff both big and small for the community and their fancafe is considered one of the safest spots for gay koreans to be openly themselves in still-conservative south korea
oh... and yeah, others have pointed it out but stone music entertainment, like 1thek, is a music distributor. mamamoo's channel is literally called mamamoo. their channel tends to have subs in 18 or more languages while you're lucky to get anything other than auto generated korean from the distributors

I believe if you want subtitles you should search in their channel - Mamamoo. There should be subtitles for future reactions :) But the early music videos are hard to find on their channel, sadly.

The key to finding Mamamoo's official videos is to just type in "Mamamoo" into the search bar. On the right side of the screen is the official channel and just click on that and search within the channel. There are playlists for every group and solo album but the solo playlists also include all of the special clips and Mamamoo TV episodes for that album/comeback so finding the actual MVs takes a minute.

Use videos off MAMAMOO's channel to get subs, not Stone Music. Some like Ahh Oop aren't one their channel, and a couple like Aze Gag don't have subs, but most of them will off the MAMAMOO channel.

@@SinghReacts some, like "you're the best" will only display their korean title in mamamoo's channel, so are easy to overlook. even with a search for "you're the best" in their channel, you'll find a performance video, at least one episode of mmmtv and... i think the one-shot video listed before the official mv. because we can't have anything simple

@@SinghReacts Of the thousands of ships across all the fandoms (mostly just videos of members looking at each other, oh smoking gun!) there are only two I've seen that might actually have a fragment of truth: Moonsun (Solar and Moonbyul) and a lesser chance of Suayeon (SuA and Siyeon). It's none of our business and we only want them to be happy without a giant public spotlight making them uncomfortable. But holy sh** the vibes between Solar and "Colleague 1" can get so Real Relationship-y fights and everything (not the fantasy-style relationships of most ships).
