Fun fact: Mamamoo stated in interviews during promotions that the title/phrase "Um Oh Ah Yeah" itself represents the way you stumble over your words and can't speak properly when you see someone you think is really hot.

You probs remember it from the guide, but this song was a turning point in Mamamoo's career. If it didn't go well, Mamamoo would've disbanded.
Fortunately, it did VERY well. To give you an idea on how well this song did:
During this time, fancafe was a bigger thing and they rank the fancafe of artists based on its number of members. Prior to Um Oh Ah Yeh, Mamamoo ranked somewhere around 20, with only thousands of members. But after UOAY, the number of members skyrocketed to tens of thousands, almost a hundred thousand and they were already within top 5. That's how many ppl became Moomoos.
Fun fact 1: they did a part switch on an actual live performance! You should check it out ^^
Fun fact 2: every perf have diff adlibs before the final chorus. Someone compiled it, so maybe you can react to that too ^^

@@SylverReacts Not to discredit Wheeinie, but I think all of them did stay in character? Wheeinie (aka Kuku) was the clumsy boy, Hwasa (aka Ricky) was the sleazy cheesy butter cheeseball, Solar was the pretty airhead, and Moonbyul (aka Yul) was the handsome girl who looked like a pretty boy. :)

There are a lot of different live versions of this song, and one has byul and hwasa change 'mid performance' to their mv selves and start acting in character
Other highly recommended versions include the acapella someone mentioned earlier (both a short video and a live version performed to the video) and a part-swap version with solar and wheein rapping and byul singing some of their parts
The song itself is one of their more performed songs as it is frequently their final song, used to let the fans know their set actually is over while also letting the members just goof around onstage. They very rarely do much of the choreo for this song when perform it at festivals and such

The first one was byul and hwasa pulling up in a car and trying to pick up a girl, the second was byul, wheein and hwasa in costume all walking into a men's locker room and trying to act normal before coming out on the other side (everyone in the locker room was associated with their agency, either artists or trainees at the time)

Oh yes.. that's one of the reason I stan them. Mamamoo choreography was made by Moonbyul in the early days, until some negative comments says they can't dance despite being an idol. Then Mamamoo hired professional dancer (number 1 in South Korea I think?) to make choreo for them, I think this is in Aya era, hard dance choreo with stabilize singing while live. Aside from that, Mamamoo in early days dancing while wearing high heels and sings. That's a real high level skills 😂😂

  • @graceababan

Mamamoo encores usually ends with UOAY, it's a crowd fave especially since they ditch the choreo and just play around the stage when this song comes on but still nailing those high notes & harmonies like it's nothing every single time.

Fun thing that you noticed how the live version is a completely new production. Well technically, the did release the acapella version in 2015 too but UOAY really is one of their songs that undergoes a lot of changes because it was made to be ~ changed ~ (see adlibs that everyone is recommending) also they've performed it probably thousands of times already so to keep the freshness they always change it up. There are about 4 main versions of this song. 1) Music Shows (for the adlibs that have subtitles and choreography), 2) Festivals (for when they have fun with the crowd, also adlibs but mostly not subtitled), 3) This acapella version (more chill but still the great vocals), 4) The Concert version (it's joke/understanding that UOAY is THE ending song and if you watch this, you'll understand. The arrangement really hypes you up, for major concerts they even have dance time w/ dancers, the band introduction, and of course fan interactions). Can't remember if there are other versions but this is an 8 year song, and in KPOP (and even Pop right now) where people move on quickly, it stands the test of time. Truly a classic

After the initial jaw drop and laughs at the the hysterical SNL meets Twelfth Night skit the next level is the satire on hetero male misbehavior with the drink drugging, sexual harassment and attempted assault, and the sexual fantasy characters Solar plays in her pursuit of Moonbyul (French maid, "coffee, tea or me" stewardess, hot to trot night nurse). They're expanding on the gender role flip in the lyrics where a woman takes the lead in the relationship by invading men's bodies and acting just as badly as guys do while making fun of stereotypical porn scenarios. And while they're at it they take a cue from the gender identity confusion in the lyrics by asking "What if you thought you straight but you fell for someone of the same gender?" Earn bonus points by answering why they set the dance scenes in a public men's room and a barber shop. Took me a long time but there's always a method to their beagle madness and I eventually came up with an explanation.
Congrats for picking the 2019 4 Seasons F/W concert version out of the 100's of live videos of the song. If we haven't mentioned it before, Mamamoo often does remixes or rearrangements of their hit songs for concerts, award shows and other special occasions, sometimes in a completely different genre than the original. For example, at the year-end 2016 KBS Song Festival they did a short dixieland jazz version of You're the Best over a prerecorded instrumental track followed by a rock version of Decalcomanie with a live band that included members of future label mates Onewe, one of the best k-rock bands imo. The spectacular 4+ hour long 4 Seasons F/W concerts were the finale to the 4 Season 4 Color four album series.

@@SylverReacts I think everyone notices the sexual harassment along the way but it gets buried in the insanity. I had to watch it a few times before I finally got around to asking all the Why?! questions. A big clue was putting a label on each of the roles Solar plays in pursuit of Moonbyul. My revelation about the men's room & barber shop dance scenes came much later ... oh, they're invading male-only spaces as well as male bodies - places you're likely to find smutty graffiti and hear trash talk about women. The only thing that doesn't seem to have an extra level of satire is Wheein's character, unless eating constantly and acting like a nerd means something I don't get. 😏
