- SCP 378 is a Thaumiel Class anomaly also known as Brainworm.
SCP-378 is an arthropod superficially resembling a deformed larval instance of Scolopendra gigantea.
SCP378 is capable of asexual reproduction at will, producing instances of SCP-378-A.
Upon infecting a suitable host, SCP-378 will attempt to reintegrate its hosts into their respective species's social sphere. Once integrated, SCP-378 directs its hosts to indefinitely engage in the behaviors typical for its species, such as communal labor and social recreation. Human hosts prefer environments with a high population-density and a robust entertainment scene.

Plot twist: Scp 378 has been in control of Dr Glass the entire time, using him to gain access to hosts with more power, both in the foundation and anomalously.
I'm just sitting here wondering why Dr. Glass looks like Steve Harvey.

That's what I thought until the ending. Even if this one is fine it looks like there are others, either with their own agendas or being used to further the agendas of other known or unknown GOI's.
I thinking that scp-378 is not the only larval looking centipeid of it's kind but rather a species each with their own similar yet distinct personalities.

Welp… they’ve done it. They’ve made an SCP that’s at once wholesome and horrifying.
It replaces people like body snatchers… but it’s only purpose in doing so is to have fun.

I don’t think the fact that it does this for fun is wholesome at all, that makes it more horrifying imo.

The SCP might be huge and widely spread, but it isn't "decentralized" by any means. It's extremely hierarchical and has one of the most centralized power structures I can imagine.

It's hierarchical yeah, but it's a blind hierarchy. Even O5 members have information and whole units of agents hidden from them for one reason or another.

Other than killing its hosts brain, this SCP is kind of wholesome. It just wants to have fun. Relatively harmless fun compared to other SCPs.
If it tries as hard as it can to live life the way you normally would (when not coerced into spying that is) and it has all your memories are you really dead?
Well, that opens up a whole new SK class end of the world scenario. If SCP 096's face is seen by a host of 378's offspring, it would then go after all the others, all the hosts of 378's competition (after one eventually saw it), and EVERYONE that saw it during the ensuing rampage. Plus causing massive containment breaches in at least 2 sites. So now we need an extra level of containment for 096, an automatic bug detector.
Well here's something else to think about: technically speaking, the only "intelligent being" to have seen 096's face was 378. The hosts are puppets that, while "seeing" for 378, are still completely under 378's control. Anything they see isn't stored on the parasitized human, it's sent to 378, so 378 would be the only one effected. 096 would head straight for 378, kill it, the human puppets would all collapse dead, and 096 would return to a dormant state.
yeah, at the end I think there are multiple 378 and other agencies has been using them so if at least one of them see scp 096 then its all done
@@Phatbroom If it were that easy to take out all the puppets, someone would have done it already. Plus, it can reproduce. Each instance making its own cadre of puppets and backups. Remember Lisa Martin? The favored host that has a lifestyle 378 actively avoids? The only known host that wouldn't be missed by normal people if she just disappeared, exploding into chunks of bone and flesh as a new, fully grown instance burst from inside her? Even if what you say is true, there would still be PLENTY of collateral victims of 096 on his rampage toward 378's location plus what ever oddities that were liberated during the initial breach.
@@jonfalan I'm not saying there wouldn't be collateral, and I'm also not saying that the hosts wouldn't become an instance if that's how they worked but, from the information provided in the video, the origin of all of these instances controls them fully. They don't have minds of their own when not controlled so my hypothesis is that any of the instances, being literally brain-dead without the original, would just fall limply without 378. They don't retain anything and are technically dead, so 096 wouldn't have any reason to go after them. Also, from information provided, the 378 offspring are so small and incapable of anything but being a receiver/transmitter of information, they also can't retain any information and would also be brain-dead without 378.
The main target would still be 378, 096 would rampage his way across the US towards 378, and anyone who see's him is dead. It'd be a rather big event in and of itself, but not XK -Class. Not by a long shot.

It would be like(bad example but still an example) if you had 5 monitors and controlled 5 people from each monitor and one of those people saw 096 I don’t think 096 would go to each person that you were controlling from the monitor it would come directly to you because you’re the brain controlling everything and the other people don’t know what’s even going on they’re just controlled by you and on top of that why would 096 run all over the world killing random people when all he has to do is kill one thing and the rest would die automatically 🤷🏾♂️ lol
this is one very weird yet interesting SCP. Thaumiel class too which is nice to read and hear about.
So an endoparasitic centipede is intelligent enough to to help squash adversaries and in turn get to live the lives of their hosts......just to know what it's like and live that dream that few other arthropods can boast

So let me get this straight... There's more than one brainworm, and the SCP Foundation has no clue how many there are or where they are located aside from the one they have contained... Yeah, that doesn't sound good at all, especially if one of their groups of interest has one at their disposal.
Plus some might have different motives and interests compared to the one yhe Foundation has.
I checked the article and found that the other infested host was discovered in 1965. I hope they made some progress I'm the last half century at least.
If I had a quarter for every mind controlling insect the foundation knows about, I... uh... what was I talking about? Ah well.

Since 378 is as sapient and intelligent as a human, we won't need to worry about it taking over the human race. Having 6 billion conversations with yourself per day would be boring and exhausting.
378 just wants to have fun, and the foundation provides that by making it interact with humans via espionage, which provides 378 a level of unpredictability, and thus excitement.
The only problem is that it won't necessarily have the same priorities as the Foundation. If being a secret agent is fun, how about being a double-agent? They are giving the bug a great deal of autonomy.

Is it just me or does this resemble the parasite planet scp? Where the beetles take over the humans and run their life's in an organized fashion not exactly the same but also has some similar points.

Plot Twist: SCP-378 absolutely understands complex social hierarchies, but acts as if it doesn't, since the foundation provides it with more fun than it thought possible. So long as they do that, it'll keep up the facade of Lisa Martin being particularly important.

we already got the results of that test when put in the chain saw cannon and used the clockworks on very fine setting! the result was it made a chainsaw cannon that fired remote controlled drones that were basically pure energy bladed flying chainsaws with full remote control guidance systems! the chain saw drones even had some full autonomous standalone drone functions with built in IFF settings! they also explode when near the end of there operation life after being fired and when getting stuck in something!

Reminds me of the Goa’uld of Stargate, whereas the Host’s presence is not dead, it is just “blocked out” yet still painfully aware of all of its surrounding. The ensuing Goa’uld have a God complex and have supernatural powers, their knowledge is passed on Genetically and were said to be the Egyptian Gods, such as Osiris, the Goddess of fertility who was a sort of Queen, birthing a braindead version of the Goa’uld, enhancing their soldiers known as the Jaffa. These Goa’uld could live beyond Millenia. If you want to know more about it, I suggest watching the first movie and then the series
