    It is so enjoyable to see folks realize just how incredible this band was and still is to this day. What is hard to imagine is just how brilliant, Peter Grant, was to set up these video recordings back in the 60's and 70's...we are just so lucky to be able to see BABY ZEPPELIN; think about Trampled Under Foot live from Earls Court 1975; you will not regret it...thanks for fantastic reaction

      Agreed, I think I read somewhere that by '73 ish he had damaged his vocal cords and you can hear that in most of their live performances past then his voice wasn't the same as the early days. Even the famous MSG performances were post-vocal damage, he still sounded amazing considering though!

    This is a cover of an American folk song, which was made famous by Joan Baez in the early 60’s. It was one of the songs that Jimmy Page played for Robert Plant when Jimmy asked Robert to come to his home to hang out and see if they were compatible musically. Jimmy played the Baez version….then gave him an idea of what he wanted to do with the song, and then asked Robert to show him what he would do with it. Obviously, Jimmy was pleased.

    Jimmy Page was the oldest of the four. He was already 24 here and had already had a career with the Yardbirds and before that as a well-paid studio guitarist. He wrote and financed the first record alone. Only later was Robert involved in the work as a copywriter. With Led Zeppelin, Jimmy planned from the start to form a supergroup like Cream. All the well-known singers he had on his wish list were already involved in other bands and one of them recommended that he listen to Robert Plant, who was previously only known regionally. Jimmy drove to the coalfields of England, the Black Country, and heard Plant singing in a regional band. He was immediately thrilled by this completely new kind of singing. Plant brought his childhood friend Bonham into the band. John Paul Jones was also a studio musician whom Jimmy already knew and appreciated.

    • @stephenmaclean3422
      @stephenmaclean3422 8 месяцев назад

      I only disagree that it was a completely new way of singing. It is very much in the tradition, but a blend of Elvis, do wap of the fifties and Howlin’ wolf and old blues. If you listen to Band of joy, he almost sounds like Tom Jones. Putting Rock and Blues guitar, an incredible Bassline and jazzy but thunderous drums under it is the magic combination. Later music just took the shrieking without the nuanced movements between vocal styles that Plant was making.

    • @fixzeichner5592
      @fixzeichner5592 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@stephenmaclean3422 In rock, it was completely new for a man to sing in tune with women. Plant himself said that his musical role models were primarily women. It is undoubtedly true that blues traditions played a major role in Led Zeppelin. Elvis was a kind of god to all the members of Led Zeppelin. The only musician they were in awe of.

      Oh yes clearly Plant was inspired by black blues singers (and white rock n' roll singers) but none of them really sang like he did. Janis Joplin did, with the histrionics etc. Perhaps subconsciously Janis was a part inspiration. You know, giving it unashamedly your all on stage.

    I think they knew that they were giving back what they had each themselves got from their heroes.
    They each had their heroes in the early sixties when they were ten and twelve and fifteen. They each started in their earliest teen years on their instrument; Plant says he started practicing his voice standing in the curtains listening to Elvis. Jimmy was on National TV playing guitar but still planned to become a biologist. If you ever hear Jimmy and Robert talk about their heroes, you will hear the reverence in their voices for Gene Vincent, Howlin Wolf and Leadbelly. Each would humbly say they were only doing what had been done for them.

    Jimmy Page's Legendary Telecaster right there, before he had to move onto the Gibson because someone messed up the artwork he'd painted on it. He got the Tele from Jeff Beck and the Gibson from Joe Walsh. Incidentally you can see the Tele before he painted it in old Yardbirds vids and pics, it used to have small mirror discs on it so the light would reflect and flash and before that it was just plain white. Personally for me this is Zeppelins no.1 song, for various reasons.

Studio zep make use of multi-track recording. When live, Jimmy can only play one track..john Paul can only play one track... Bonham didn't need multi-tracking. So, to me, live led zep is 1/20 the sound in the studio... don't get me wrong!! I love live led zep... love it! But for a first listen to a new song, in my opinion, it should always, always be studio. I still feel you have not heard how good this song actually is... you heard a fraction of what it is....

    GREAT TO SEE THOSE OLD VERSIONS, ALTHOUGH THE STUDIO VERSION SO SO MUCH BETTER. THIS ONE HAD SOME PRETTY BAD DISTORTION IN THE GUITARS. ROBERTS VOCALS WERE MORE AGGRESSIVE IN THE STUDIO VERSION. GREAT REACTIONS 👏
    GUESS WHAT… YOUR NOT EVEN A QUARTER OF THE WAY THROUGH THIER SONGS…. MANY MANY MORE GREAT SONGS TO GO.
    N UR IN THE RIGHT EARA NOW … ROCK ON 👊🖖

      Plant is a bit over the top in the studio version. He even thinks so himself.

    Even the greatest of performers are subjected to pain and torment. Robert Plant lost his young son. Music has to be seen within the context of life

    Not the best version. To truly appreciate this song you have to react to the album version( in this case it is much better, imo).When you hear the acoustic guitar work at the beginning and throughout and hear the raw emotion in Robert's voice and hear all the transitions , you'll understand.

      Agreed. Almost without exception, it’s ALWAYS better to do the studio version first for proper perspective. I’ll never understand why so many of these reactors just don’t adhere to that. I tend to think maybe they just don’t know any better.

    Really not the best version but it'll do. They weren't really writing yet, this was composed bu Anne Bredon and then covered by Joan Baez before Zep transformed it. "How Many More Times" from this same appearance is excellent!

      @bilabong4257 8 месяцев назад +2

      Just because they didn’t come up with the lyrics doesn’t mean they weren’t writing the music. Because I promise you Bredon didn’t “compose” this.

      Apart from the title and a few lyrics, this has almost nothing to do with the other versions.
      The music is 90% original.

    Great song and reaction but the sound was bad and Page's guitar was slightly out of tune which is big time annoying. I still enjoyed it though.
