    I do this with mosses. Literally just take an old take out container or cheap tupperware and toss some moss in, spray it with dechlorinated water like once a week, and set it remotely near a window.

    I put Christmas moss in a jar in spring..and its been outside in shade in what has been a long warm summer and it's hardly grown. I expected it to have filled that jar by now.

    I throw out my trimmings after about two weeks since that's how long it takes me to rescue all the baby pond and bladder snails from the trimming bucket

      Yes. You can also put it on driftwood (in some container) and it will grow if there is enough moisture and light.

    Nice, how about floating plants like red root floaters if there are too much of it how to grow out side of tank? use cups or plates? any better advices?

    This was so helpful. Just recently had to remove all my plants from a small tank, so I had them sitting in a Prego jar with some aquarium water. But this sounds a little better. Can I do the same from seeds? I'm having trouble , 🥺 they keep molding over. I keep the lights on 24hrs the first day and the substrate is fluval stratum from an existing tank. Plz help

      Yes you can. But you don't need soil, you can put it on a piece of wood,stone... Stainless steel mash or pvc mash.

    With stem plants. Do you stick then to the soil or lay it flat above the soil just like what you did on monte carlo?

      Plants that have stronger stems can be planted, those with weaker ones like rotala just lay flat on the soil.

      Hi. Yes, but it must be covered for at least the first 3 weeks. Plants must make the transition to emersed form, and this requires humidity. Afterwards, the cover can be gradually removed. But anyway, it all depends on the type of plant.

      It can be and it doesn't have to be. Just need to pay attention to whether the plants have enough moisture.

      I'm not sure, it should be possible. But you have to make sure that there are no parasites in the soil that damage the plants.

      Thanks. A lot of plants. Example,Vallisneria and sagittaria are some that cannot be kept in this way... All types rotala,cryptpcoryne,hydrocotyle,ludwigia,bacopa,hygrophila,alternanthera,liliaeopsis,moss.... Hc cuba,monte carlo,hemianthus micranthemoides,glossostigma,hairgrass (not trimmings,hg should have roots)...etc...can.

      You can plant them right in the tank or you can wait for them to grow more. The longer you wait, the more plants you will have.

One question please, i live in Indonesia where the weather is quite hot as hell.. 31-32 C at noon with no Aircon.. do you think i am still able to do it with this method?     I had to buy a rotala for my Guppy, very big plant with a lot of roots. In my 70L aquarium i had no substrate, just sand and gravel. The roots now are dead, the plant is still anchored in the gravel, and new roots are born that are floating in the water. What i have to do? I'm cutting them in the rotten part and placing the new roots under some rocks. Will them grow well?

      For rotalas and other stem plants, the roots are not so important. You can only plant a stem and the plant will develop roots and will grow. Of course if you have the right conditions in the tank.

      I've never tried it but I think it can. Rhizome should not be planted in the soil as with anubias.

      Well not as fast as in a tank with CO2 and fertilizer. It grows more slowly in dsm. But if you plant densely at the beginning, the carpet will form faster.

      No need for fertilizer, aquarium soil is enough. I use RO water because I already have it at home, but tap water can also be used.

    I dont know why my Monte Carlo grow not well. Some of them melting and some growing. My tank is now about 8 days old.

      What are you growing them in? Soil, substrate, sand? Do u have fish in? If your tank is only 8 days old there wouldn't be enough nutrients in the water ie nitrates for the plants to feed on, best to add plants after your tank is cycled, about 4-6 weeks or start off with cycled sponge and media in your filter if you want to add plants straight away..

      Yes, of course, it will just take longer to grow. Hairgrass trimmings cannot be used (I mentioned this because I don’t know what kind of plants you have).

      I occasionally ventilate the plants. If you have a mold problem, try leaving half a centimeter uncovered on one side of the container.
