Honestly I think 4 and 5 are worth the watch. Especially 4 which is by far the better of the two. There is some neat stuff in 5 but overall it's probably my least favourite.
I feel like 5 had a really good concept, but bad execution.
It had some good scenes, but didn't feelt like Pirates.
4th part still feelt like part of the story, especially as it continued plot from part 3
Yeah i hope they continue with the vibes from the 4th film and put the main characters in less powerful situations to escape from
Part 5 was only bad because of what they did to Jack! I can't believe Johnny Depp even agreed to play his character as a drunk.. :/
I bought the 5th movie more than a year ago, since I had all the other movies. It's still in its plastic wrapping :l I didn't like the 4th enough to really care what would happen in the 5th and each movie was just progressively worse than the former imo (well, the 2nd was almost as good as the 1st).
@@delix787 As far as I remember, he wasn't as much present, as in previous movies, so playing 'lesser' role was probably better for him.
Also, it wasn't the only bad thing.
They changed some of Jack's backstory (compass thing); also the plot with William wasn't done right.
I mean- I dislike the whole concept of involving William in this plot, because there were already much things they could do; but it wasn't done right.
4th part maybe wasn't good, but it at least made some sense.
Thing is, 4 was the perfect story for Will and Elizabeth. I had convinced myself that the story was for them entirely. So I was shocked when I learned they weren't in it. Fountain of Youth would've been perfect for Elizabeth so that she could also live forever like Will. Then every 10 years would seem like nothing after 1000s of years.
The reason I thought this movie fell short is that black beard doesn't do much. He has this great ship and magic, and its hardly used.
I saw this in cinema in France, and all I remember was everyone laughing when they heard the name Syrena because it sounds almost exactly like the French word for mermaid : sirène (like most latin based languages). So yeah literally a mermaid named "mermaid"... sounds more exotic in English 🤣
I'd like to see it again, I remember not liking it as much as the previous 3 but I don't remember it being as bad as people said it was. But then again I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to movies.
Imagine as spanish speakers that literally call mermaids sirenas. It is like when a little kid call his dog dog XD.

Fun fact: The guy who declared the Fountain of Youth as property of Britain and then got shot was Theodore Groves, the same guy who in the first movie said, "That's got to be the best pirate I have ever seen." when Jack stole The Interceptor.
So off topic, but fish need oxygen too. It needs to be aerated into the water for their gills to extract it. A fish for to long in stagnant water will use all the oxygen up and drown.
The main problem with this movie IMO is that Blackbeard didn't feel as imposing as he should have, he's practically a side character. The antagonists pull more weight in the first three, with Barbossa, Davy Jones, and Beckett each having significant impact on the plot land posing incredible threat to Jack Sparrow and the gang. Blackbeard comes off like a grumpy chaperone by comparison.
Who cares for stupid Critics when You like the movie by yourself. But I did like every single movie in pirates Trilogy.
i think this movie is a bit underrated :( it obviously isn’t as good as the first three but it’s funny and i always enjoyed watching this! last one (5) is my least favorite tbh, but it’s worth the watch at least once; sure thing is they shouldn’t ruin this movies any long, if they’re gonna make new ones without johnny depp they’re gonna be a total flop :/
Did you notice that the British king in this movie is the same actor who plays Vernon Dursley in Harry Potter? He's married to Harry's aunt. 🧙🏻♂️🔮
I love all of them: Edit Jack's dad is legendary musician Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, his character is Captain Teague, you find out in the 5th movie why Jack is called Captain Sparrow rather than Teague like his dad. I do love the 5th one the only thing I don't like is that they changed the story of how Jack actually got the compass.
And that Jack giving away his compass was bad, despite he gave it to Will, Elizabeth and Gibbs lol.

The religious guy (Philip) isn’t supposed to be part of the ritual. As someone who was going to dedicate her life to the church, Angelica wants her father’s soul to be saved (not just his life). Philip is a persistent missionary and Angelica (and Philip) believe he can get through to Blackbeard in time.
I love this one, though it's not as epic as the initial trilogy (as everyone says) - I still love it though. 5 is good but has a few failings that are mostly to do with inconsistent writing. But still fun
I love Angelica :) plus we needed a story to cover the years where Will is kinda out doing the flying dutchman captain's duty... plus black beard was a great addition.
I liked both 4 and 5.
I like 5 cuz i felt like it tied it all up nicely, and i like some of the new characters too!
The mermaids are terrifying definitely my favorite portion of the film
This may not be the best movie, but it 100% had the best jack sparrow out of all 5 movies...he was funnier and smarter
If I had to make a list of best jack sparrow moments, 4-5 would be solely from this movie
1)escape from the brits,
2)waterfall scene
3)escape from spaniards
4) fake kiss at the end (best capn jack moment ever for me)
Jack was done Perfectly this movie, (in the 5th one, his character is completely destroyed)
Also,I like this movie more than the 1st movie, my third favorite in the franchise

I am by far the biggest pirates fan ever and my favorite is 3. I like the music, i like the plot, i love the action, and my favorite part is how long it is.
The English King is also the same actor who plays Vernon Dursley in Harry Potter. RIP

The best way to describe 4 and 5 are fun family movies that are entertaining. They only fall short as far as story line and plot in RELATION to the first three movies

the first 3 feel like its own trilogy then theres just 4-5 which feel like a whole other thing
I didn't really like this one when it came out. Something just felt off, which I attribute to the change in director. But it's grown on me over time. It's not nearly as epic as 2 or 3, but the story and characters are interesting.
One common complaint among fans is that a lot of popular characters from the first three films are just unceremoniously killed off screen when Blackbeard took the Pearl.
I think its jacks new hair color and more makeup

@@gamestation2690 He wasn’t THAT depressed. He’s had everyone doubt him and his abilities at every turn. you can make excuses all day long. Point is, he’s out of character throughout the whole movie. Lacking many of the qualities that made Jack sparrow such a great character.

Tbh I really love this movie I mean all of the POTC movies r great but 1 n 4 r literally my favorites! Coz obviously jack is the main character here n I also really liked the fact that they somehow showed a caring side of jack ( it looked like he actually really cared for Angelica) n not forgetting how funny n cleaver he was in this part !

Don't know how many people will read this since the video is 3 weeks old, but another reason I think this one isn't as good as the previous, is that there is no Will&Elizabeth. They were the main character. Jack was only a side character (with a VERY big impact) but he wasn't the absolute main focus. They tried to make up for it with a new couple, but it didn't have as much of an impact. In my opinion, this movie is just missing the Will&Elizabethness
POTC Felt like a spin offish sequel and that has characters and still shows continuity among the lore like barbosa actually lost the pearl, Gibbs was Navy at the opening of POTC 1 that's why Barbosa said "welcome back" to him, groves was still there, And of course the circle charts that was hinted at POTC 3 for the fountain of youth. Compared to the parody that was POTC 5(but could have been redeemable) POTC 4 like I said is spin off/Stand Alone like vibe but still connects to lore.
I watched this movie last night in anticipation of seeing this video today. I wish we could have seen what happened with Phillip and Syrena. Other than that, I enjoyed the movie. Great reaction, Eddie!

One I think you'll like if you haven't seen them yet are the Underworld movies, about werewolves and vampires. I have loved them since I saw them when I was a teenager, they are dark and full of action and intrigue, a great series. :)
if you like this stuff and want something a little more "realistic" you should absolutely check out the Starz show Black Sails. Criminally underrated pirate show with incredible production value and story

Jacks father is captain Teague, the keeper of the pirate codex. He was in the meeting scene in I think dead man's chest where a bunch of people including Jack, Elizabeth and barbossa for pirate King vote to fight davy jones

funnnily enough, Edward Teach (Blackbeard) wasn't the cruel disgusting pirate in reality, as the legends say, but he kept on spreading those stories about his terrible but fictionate crimes, besides the ones he did for real, so he would have more intemedating and scary reputation.

Jack's dad is played by Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones. As the story is told J D took inspiration from Keith to develop the mannerisms for Jack Sparrow. I am not sure who contacted who first but the end result was Keith was flattered and has become a part of the tale

5 is worth watching because of it's great ending.
People dislike 4 because Will and Elizabeth are gone. Also the 5th has nothing to do with the 4th. You won't see Angelica again.

I think people are kinda iffy on this the 4th and 5th film cuz they ultimately don't feel like POTC films... They got new writers and also Johnny Depp's salary SKYROCKETED for the last 2 films so they started using even more CGI... Where the first 3 had a lot of practical effects. The 4th film doesn't have any ship battles or epic sword fights, most of the film is set on an island. The 5 film has some cool lore to it, but they cut cost with using a SHIT TON of CGI. Smh it's a shame, but I think the problem is that Jack Sparrow was not the main character in the first 3 films. It was Will and Elizabeth, but the character became so popular that Jack took over

I agree its definitely not as good as the first trilogy. But I have a soft spot for this movie, bc I get to hear Johnny Depp affectionately use my name, and Penelope Cruz is great in this.
I did not like two things about this movie
1. Blackbeard having zombies. Seriously, what is it with this franchise and undead. At this point it would be a subversion of expectation to just see regular pirates.
2. Jack giving up immortality (again) to save someone else. In Worlds End it made sense since not only did he get to know Will and Elizabeth pretty well, but also the immortality had some strings attached. Not ever being able to leave the ship (except one day in 10 years), and having to guide the dead to the afterlife. This time, Jack could have easily gained immortality and all he would have to do was let a fling from the past die. Jack was shown as being incredibly selfish and totally fine with enslaving some poor souls for hundred years or so just to save his own skin from the same fate. Saving Penelope Cruz' character is what a typical hero would do but Jack was once (and works best as) an anti-hero who looks out for himself over all else.
4th and the 5th movie being worse is not so simpe and just about characters switching sides. The characters are not the same, the feel and the vibe is different. Take for example the best character Jack. They made him a stumbling idiot who is just lucky in the next movie, instead of a cunning and very smart guy who always plans ahead but looks like an idiot on purpose to fool everyone. In these two he's just an idiot. This is best seen in the 5th. His character was entirely assassinated there

In fact the Spanish are the good guys of the movie, England want's the fountain for them, Blackbeard to prevent his dead, Barbossa revenge, but the Spanis destroyed a powerful weapon before falls in the wrong hands.
Did you recognize Richard Griffiths as the "sire" that Barbosa spoke to in that beginning scene? (Uncle Vernon from the Harry Potter movies).

people who critique movies like these needs to relax... they are fun and entertaining.
The thing with 4 is that Blackbeard has a lot of psychic and mystical style abilities, in previous movies the magic has been very physical, and it makes things feel more grounded, even if they arent. Also, Blackbeards crew just doesn't die, and they dont even look cool, I mean, we had skeletons, then sea monsters, kinda feels underwhelming. Also, the plot doesn't have very interestin conflicts of interest, in the first three, the different characters are all playing tons of angles, and this movie is kinda just a race to the fountain. Also no will and elizabeth, that was a core element of the first three films

i dont hate the 4th and 5th films... i just dont like them as the other 3, and essentialy yeah the 5th film is kind of a mess, but i still fucking love it because will and elizabeth get to get together and their son gets a girlfriend ( i hate that barbosa dies tough, he was my favorite)
I've never understood the hate for this movie. I love the first four films a lot; I like some of the ideas in the fifth, but am, like most, disappointed in Jack's character.
It’s not that there is really one answer all the new ideas in part 4 are great but some of the bigger ideas aren’t used the best

I understand where the hate for 4 and 5 comes from, but honestly, the 5th film is one of my all time favorite films and not just in the franchise. But even I agree, it doesn't... work well with the rest of the films. Ignoring that, it's brilliant.

The 4th film doesnt have as charm as it's predecessor. The storytelling is also very bumpy. The ideas of mermaids, blackbeard and the fountain of youth are very good, but not enough. And above all, what is missing for a good pirate film: a sea battle :)
by the way:
in germany, parts 4 and 5 were destroyed by the fact that the voice actor for parts 1 - 3 was no longer available. He was perfekt for jack sparrow. That makes a lot of difference to the audience that only watches films synchronized.
4 is pretty darn great. 5 well I'll let you make up your own opinion.
I love Barbossa in this movie.
A lot of people don't like this movie because it doesn't have Will and Elizabeth. People have different reasons but that's the one I hear the most. My husband isn't the biggest fan of Will and Elizabeth and actually prefers this one over the rest. I love all five. I can recognize the plot holes and retcons and still enjoy them as fun pirate movies.
4 Is fine, maybe not as good as first 3, but not bad. 5 I think is a trainwreck imo, with a few good things.
I honestly never really found the Will and Elizabeth story very entertaining vut everything else about the series I love. Its all just and endless pursuit of immortality for Jack and I do appreciate the lower stakes in this movie. Blackbeard was great and I love his actor. I love that they gave him more of a mystical element than the other antagonists in the first 3 cause we know magic exists in this universe bit it was never really heavily explored, always just a curse or two.
And yes Blackbeard was more of an enchanter than a magician

Viewing it as a stand alone Jack Sparrow film I found it pretty good. I got some enjoyment out of it. But it's not as good as the first 3. :)

Not really sure why this movie gets the hate it does. Not to be contrarian, but I honestly thought the whole fountain of youth story was great and very fitting. And Barbosa temporarily changing alliance is a smart albeit slightly out of character move. But I am not going to write a movie off for that.
I am not big on Cruz, but she did a passable job regardless. And McShane as Black Beard is absolutely fantastic. The next movie is also pretty decent. Especially compared to the third movie (which I maintain is the worst of them all), the 4th and 5th movies are pretty great. They aren't groundbreaking, sure, but they're definitely in the spirit of the franchise.
Part 4 comes off as filler because it doesn't tie in with anything from the other 3 movies. That I consider real Cannon!
What about the fountain

@@delix787 But the fountain wasn't just casually mentioned in the trilogy. We literally ended with Jack going off to find the fountain, the 3rd movie set up that the next movie would be about Jack looking for the fountain. If you consider the 3rd movie canon, then this one is too.
