When you only knew that one name Captain Jack Sparrow... I was like ah but you have heard of him right away hahaha
LOL That's awesome! Everyone knows of em'
“ You best start believing in ghost stories, Ms. Turner…. You’re in one!” is my favorite line in this entire series!!!
It was soooo good. I had to put it into the RUclips cut. Haha
@@NewfieMovieReactions much appreciated!!! Love your reactions 😊
Captain Jack walks on land like a normal person would walk while on a ship.
LoL that's true!
They explain in the movie why ;)
yes, isnt it that he has spent so much time at sea on a ship, that when he walks on solid ground (ie not on a rocking ship) he is all off kilter lol?
@@holi117 THey marooned him on an island and he nearly died from a heatstroke ; as one of his crewmen explains to Will turner
@@Makaveli13Xroy i like how you correct the right answer with your wrong one
This movie had no right to be as good as it was. Literally, the writing is so good~
Not the most technically skilled, but a personal favorite:
" You cheated! "
" ... _Pirate._ "
When I first heard about it and that it was based off the Disney ride I was like "lame, no interest in that". Then I saw the casting and was like.... hmm.... maybe I'll check it out. Now it's probably my favorite movie of all time. Even did my gymnastics routine in high school to the song "He's a Pirate".
“Well, he might be a pirate, but he got a good heart”
Hey. You can’t just call out the moral of the story in the first act like that.
I learned that Will and Elizabeth were meant to be the main characters of the franchise but Jack became an instant favorite so they decided to make it about him
Will is still the main character the only difference is they made jack the central character for the next films, well not even part 2 part 3 part 2 will is so main in that film they should call it will turners adventure because his screen time in that movie is ridiculous. But In a good way because will turner is my favorite character of all time in any movie. Jack is the protagonist of part 4 only the rest he is not. Most films the protagonist is the central character but some films you can split those characters in to 2. And have one you follow and one you follow secondary but everyone wants something from him.
“So the pirates DO have a code!”
Mmm... more like.. guidelines 😋
Such a good line! Haha Came up a few times in the movie.
If you haven't figured out about the pistol with one shot yet, it's essentially a mercy shot. The point of it is when the guy stranded has no more food or water and is wasting away to death, they can just end it with the gun shot to the head. Jack, of course, found a way off and saves the shot for the reason stated in the movie.
The thing that gets me is that he never bought any other guns/shot/powder in the time he's been free. He's been doing other stuff, he had that money in his pocket to give to the dock manager so I'm pretty sure he could've gotten additional supplies at some time.
@@Galiant2010 He could've bought that stuff, but I think the movie shows that Jack's very down on his luck when he's introduced. Between rum, food, and the cruddy rowboat he had, he probably spent most of his money, and probably was living like that for quite a while. He probably didn't see the need for another gun, since he usually gets out of trouble more with his sword and wordplay.
kind of funny how you thought Natalie Portman was in this as Keira Knightley played the bodyguard body double of Natalie Portman's Queen Amidala in the Phantom Menace. Also corsets when worn correctly were comfortable unlike how movies and tv shows often portray them. I love your reactions.
He should watch kingsman!
Really?!? I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing.
I've seen multiple people watch this movie and mistake Keira for Natalie
@@NewfieMovieReactions you know what is even funnier? natalie portman and kira knightly looked so much alike in their youth, that even their mothers mistaken them on set many times
I thought that was the point with this corset scene, that she was wearing it wrong. It was said, that it's "new" so maybe they didn't know how to tie it properly.
Barbossa is an amazing character, and you can feel for his plight. Sure, he was ruthless to get the curse lifted, but he was never actually evil. Everything he did was to end the curse. And that ending, seen through his eyes, is so chilling. He finally gets his wish, his goal, his treasure. Finally he can FEEL! But all he could feel... is the coldness of Death.
He's not evil in a "evil magic and rituals" kind of way, but he's still a pirate that led a mutiny. It's not like he's a GOOD guy haha.
@@Galiant2010 Having seen Jack's personality, and then Barbossa's. Do you really think Barbossa would let himself and the crew be jerked around by Jack's Antics?
And yeah, he isn't a good person. But he isn't evil such as the eastern trading company in the second and third film, nor evil as davy jones.
@@Galiant2010 What?
The thing is: This movie practically MADE all the modern stereo-types about pirates. This "every good pirate-story needs a curse" for example was heavily pushed because of this movie 😉
I think someone made the same point about the Princess Bride. Both of them have a certain degree of playing certain tropes straight, but at all the right times, it just knows how to do its own thing and defy all expectations
It didn't create the stereotypes, they had existed for a long time. It was just the first modern movie to do it right and bring pirates back to popularity.
@@Galiant2010 yeah~ but not to this extent.
i think this is the perfect moment for saying #justiceforjohnny
@who cares not cancel, jail, she commited many crimes, the list is enormous, she should be jailed for her crimes
@who cares You know you can hate Amber Heard without being misogynistic, right? She's a terrible person, but feminism is literally a movement for basic human rights.
@@lindseysquire8417 Modern day feminism is stupid.
Yes agree: #justiceforjohnmy
@@lindseysquire8417 I'm a woman and I actually think that feminism is a joke , or at least it has become one. It has become no longer about equal rights but about swing the pendulum from one extreme to the complete opposite extreme , where it is not about working hard to reach your dream/ do well with work and/life , but about the fact that a person is a woman means that they automatically get a free pass even if they aren't the most qualified or most passionate person for whatever. We are basically doing the exact same thing that men have been doing for years and think it "will work this time" because we are woman .
I just don't know when we as people will learn that the way to solve an issue or problem is not to go from one extreme on the pendulum to the other when it comes to ideas / ideals.
My favorite movie franchise. You're gonna love these so much . The 3rd is my personal favorite.
Awesome reaction
Thanks! Loving em so far!
"If it's the truth, he wouldnt have told us!!!" That made me laugh
That was a good line. Haha
23:46 - Uh, Elizabeth would probably have preferred death to what Barbosa had planned for her, if she hadn't been saved.
yeah, why ye think they didn't slit her throat? because once they can experience pleasure again... 0_0
I agree. The mix of comedy, romance, and action is what makes this series so great. That's why I love these adventure type movies. That and the traveling - I live in Michigan and the furthest I've been is Wisconsin, so the idea of traveling to far away places has always been alluring to me. Kind of funny though because I'm also a bit of a homebody. Anyway, I loved your reaction to this. You seemed to really enjoy it. 🙂
The look was because the old drunk (his "master") got credit for wills work
Yup! I realized that afterwards. :D
If there's only one movie I've loved the most. It's this movie. No matter how many times I watch it I never get bored.
Ditto, my sister and I have watched this movie so much.. I watched it with my boyfriend and annoyed him by saying lines along with the movie. xD (It wasn't his first time watching it otherwise I would've held back, lol)
The thing I love about these movies is that they are 'storybook' adventures, if that makes sense. Not in that they are childish, but it feels like an epic fantasy come to life.
"I thought it was an actual ghost ship, but it's actual pirates."
Me: (Whistles.)
The only thing I dislike about this movie is the corset slander. Corsets weren't torture devices, they were quite comfortable if well made. This myth basically comes from the time honoured tradition of men hating on traditionally feminine stuff, like fashion, and drawing over-the-top carricatures of women tightlacing themselves to death.
Oh yeah? From the films or shows I always thought they were awful to wear. haha Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I have heard that as well from people who wore them.
@@NewfieMovieReactions You should check out Bernadette Banner's video on corsets! It's fascinating.
@@jm329 corsets were very personalized and came in many styles to fit your body type.
Buying a cheap knock off or an ill fitting corset and then lacing it too tightly as well, of course it will hurt.
But that's not how you are supposed to tie them. Tie them well, but not tight as fuck and get a good fitting one as well.
4:15 a perfect example of one of the many ways we Canadians use the word "eh"😂
Pirates did burn down ships on occasion when they resisted, as a warning to others.
I am so glad you chose to embark on this sea fairing adventure. With 4 more to go you're in for a treat. Captain Jack Sparrow really is a boss
Me too! Been wanting to watch Pirates for soooo long.
@@NewfieMovieReactions Its one of my favourite movie series. They are long films but so good you don't realize how long you've been watching for. Can't wait for you to watch dead man's chest
I've been rewatching the series vicariously through people seeing it for the first time and... I just now realized something. One of Jack's crimes was "Impersonating a cleric of the Catholic church."
Blackbeard's daughter (in "On Stranger Tides") was a nun when she and Jack met. Literally no loose ends left untied.
The dog is the one on the ride with it holding the keys right out of the reach of the prisoners
bob anderson did the fight scenes for this movie, along with the original star wars trilogy, the princess bride, the lord of the rings trilogy, and dozens more. he was an incredible sword master and fight coordinator, his fights are all so well done and tell us so much about the characters. you learn a lot about jack and will in this scene, and it's not just the dialogue.
That's amazing! Thanks for sharing!
I have been looking forward to your reaction to Jack since you said you were doing these movies. It did not disappoint.
Thanks!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm editing #2 right now. :)
"pass my compliments to your master"
inner will: bitch you know i made that!
You missed the after credit scene! The Pirate movies all have one. Also Jacks compass ain't broken. It's special.
I seen it. I just don't put everything into the condensed RUclips version. :)
@@NewfieMovieReactions Well thats just a reaction sin. Punishment is 300 strikes on your channel.
@@ItApproaches Haha sorry! But Disney would shut me down if I left everything in. Haha. :)
@@NewfieMovieReactions Everything? The end credit scene is like 45 seconds long lol. If that.
@@NewfieMovieReactions I realize that and I think we all acknowledge that. I think we just want to make sure you aren't missing anything lol :)
I would suggest watching the ''why is the rum gone'' edit video of POC after this. It's funny and one of the earlier popular vids on RUclips when youtube was still young. People like my generation have actual nostalgia for it now haha. (together with ''they are taking the hobbits to isengard'' though you'd have to have watched lord of the rings two towers for that one)
Both featuring Orlando Bloom! 😂
And now that song is stuck in my head.
Two golden videos 🤣 And thanks to you I went watching them, having a nice moment and come back to watch the reaction
"oh we got ourselves a Yaaaarr" your sheer, childish JOY over this so far is just...I love it so much! I've loved this movie ever since it first came out but your reaction makes me love it on a different level. The one-liners, the weirdness, great slapstick, tension, good plot, amazing actors and actresses, AWESOME SOUNDTRACK (paid 16 euros back then for the cd and plaid it non-fucking-stop, mum went crazy but I was 150% dedicated to becoming a cool pirate when I was 11😅), foreseeable but nonetheless wholesome romance, just an all-in-all great ass movie. more of this and less "sequels, prequels and remakes" please and thank you☺
Thanks for the kind words! You are awesome! Also, You are right. Pirates Rule!
@@NewfieMovieReactions ARRRRR!!!
Barbossa is his last name. His first name is Hector
“where did he put it? down in a chest som’re?” I just love your accent!!
This is how I remember the pronunciation:
if you're on a pirate ship you eat plain beans (ca-ra-BE-AN)
if you're on a cruise liner you eat barbeque ribs (ca-RIB-ee-an)
Im obsessed, i found you because of you reacting to my #1 favourite movie series the hunger games and now you’re doing my 2nd favourite 😭 bless you 💖
That's awesome! Thanks for being here!
I don't like how you made it back to front but good reaction! I love Johnny depp so much...The humor he added to his role as captain jack sparrow was omg- it just had me....Its funny because he added the humor himself it wasn't originally meant to be in the movie but they liked it and was like "let's add it in the movie"
When you said “It’s happening” I knew this channel was my vibe. Subscribed 🤗
LoL! Nice! Thanks.
Yay!!! I was hoping you’d do this series next. I like watching movies with you Newfie!!!
Ahh thanks! Yup, knocking down all 5 Pirate movies now.
So happy to see you react to this! Such a good movie!
Yup! It's Gold!
@@NewfieMovieReactions u must focus on next potc villian Davy Jones story too...
I was 14 when this came to theaters and I was obsessed instantly. Growing up seeing the name of Disney take a chance on such a dark style after the 90s animated renaissance and it was great. I saw it 4 times in theater, only once with my family and then solo or friend trips because I had to show everyone this film. Barbosa's line about being in a nightmare STILL gives me that feeling of excitement I felt the first time seeing it.
Such a fun movie! Thank you for a great reaction and for making my weekend more enjoyable! 🖤
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and being awesome!
Norrington....especially the moment directly after Jack and Will steal the Interceptor and he says "So it would seem" about Jack being the greatest pirate.....
He reminds me so much of the captain from Muppett Treasure Island. The eagle muppet in a wig.
I love EVERY SINGLE SECOND of this reaction, couldn't have been better!
I was fortunate enough to get a copy of the trilogy on Blu-ray; it has extras on one of the discs that is a game featuring some of the pirates. Saying which game would give away a future installment so I'll wait to reveal it. This was a fun reaction; this series is a lot of fun, especially with crazy Johnny Depp (I love the way he walks too).
Blessed by the recommendations! This is awesome. Good luck on this epic adventure!
Welcome aboard!
This was great! I can't wait to see your reactions to the others!
YAY I didn't know you were doing these movies! I love them. Thank you!
Glad you like them! More to come!
Johnny Depp took the mannerisms from Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones! 🤪👌🏼🥰✌🏼
Such a fun movie. If only the other movies based on Disney rides were this good.
4:22 Classic Newfie response 😂👌
I've been looking for such a RUclips channel to come along for a while now ! (New sub)
For some reason, watching you reacting to the movies makes them more appealing to watch. I'm definitely supporting this channel on Patreon
to answer your question, i feel like its a general consensus to say pirates of the "care-ih-bee-an"" and then you can visit or vacation in the "cuh-rib-bee-an" lol
When they released the first film, they had NO IDEA how it would be received. Turned out it went so well, they wove a storyline from the first film, using and developing the various props and bits.
Watch the fight between Will and Sparrow. You can see Orlando Bloom's Fellowship of the Ring tattoo on his wrist. (usually covered by a bandana in the rest of the movie).
I cant believe your just starting, whelp enjoy your journey
is interesting to see these scenes inverted in a mirror effect :D
I take it you’ve never been to Disneyland. The song is the theme from Pirates Of the Caribbean ride and several scenes ( Tortuga, Jail, dog with key ) are taken directly from that attraction.
I have not. I've been to Disney World in Florida however.
@@NewfieMovieReactions I do enjoy your Reactions. I laugh quite a bit. Being 63, I’ve seen all of these films you review. Most of your choices are great. You doooo get emotional, eh?
@@NewfieMovieReactions They have the identical ride in Disney World in Florida. but I understand if you didn't go on the ride or don't remember it. The ride was made decades ago and they took every scene from the ride and made it into this movie. For me who remembered the ride it was really fun to catch the different scenes as they showed up in the movie.
Sorry to be so late finding your reactions. But at least i have sooo many great movie reactions to choose from! You are so much fun to enjoy a movie with. ❤
Wow thanks. :) Glad you enjoy em.
So excited your doing POTC!!!! Good movies!!
As am I!! Loving it so far! Editing the second one as we speak.
@@NewfieMovieReactions they get better and better I think. The third one is my all time favorite not just because of the story but the music in it is awesome!! As it is in all of them 😊
Have you seen The Mummy movies? The first one came out in 1999 and it's such a good movie. If you like Pirates of the Caribbean, I think you'll like The Mummy too.
13:45 that is caused for the lack of vitamine C many sea people had that because they would spend a long period of time in the sea wighout fruits, at some point when this was found out, every ship had to have lemons and oranges for the crew to eat their daily vitamine C
Seems like you're talking about scurvy, however that does not color the eyes yellow.
That would be hepatitis, a result of either an STD or overdrinking alcohol.
The yellow color of the skin and eyes is a result of a damaged liver (hepar = liver) and is called jaundice.
Scurvy results in your teeth and hair falling out, wounding the skin and internal inflammations.
Neither is very pleasant 0_0
@@MissFlow i hafe forgotten liver faliure due to ingestion of alchool, which you're right is much more likely to cause yellow eyes.
altough i think i read somewhere that scurvy could also cause internal bleeding and organs to stop working and yellow coloration of the eyes right before someone is about to die, and that the reason that they managed to be "ok" with the yellow eyes was because they were aready dead and therefore could not die of the thing
The yellow eyes are because pirates drink too much rhum and would become jaundiced from liver failure. Probably not very realistic. Not sure about humans, but when animals develop jaundice they'll die pretty quickly, so the whole crew having yellow in their eyes, you'd have to assume after coming back to life they wouldn't have much time lol.
Yeah, though the reason they drank so much is only half their fault. Water would essentially go stagnant while at sea, but rum didn't! 😂
Just wait till you see Dead Man's Chest, number 3 At Worlds End carries on from Dead Man's Chest they were filmed back to back and released only a year apart. #JusticeForJohnnyDepp
3:45 That's Keira Knightly who, interestingly enough, played Nathalie Portman's double in the Star Wars prequel. Mostly because she looks alot like her. Not to the point where you can't tell them apart but moreso when they're wearing the Amidala makeup that she wore in the first movie.
Great observations here, loved it!
Will Turner is the son of BOOTSTRAP BILL TURNER
funny enough: before a certain series about a rubber pirate and the quest for the absolute treasure, Pirate of the Caribbean was the first taste of being a pirate. there was just something cool about it: sailing the seas, doing as you please, getting rare and bountiful treasure and just being amazing at it.
This movie was the first DVD I ever owned (Lord of the Rings: FotR was my last VHS, ironic that they both have Orlando Bloom lol) and on the DVD you could put it into a PC and it had software on it that let you "curse" a picture of yourself on the computer to see yourself as a skeletal being. I was 11 at the time and I remember getting pictures of family and friends and converting them into a skeleton lol. I loved that feature.
What’s funny is that if Elizabeth kept the medal in the draw none of this would of happened lol. I think it being in the draw somehow blocked Barbosss and the rest from finding it. So once she took it out it and fell in the water it sent out a signal that started this whole change of events
Wow. Fraggle rock. Now that's a blast from the past 😂
These movies are epic. I love the music and I love how much of the script was improvised especially by Johnny and Orlando. You should do the Narnia movies next.
Great reaction! Can't wait for the rest of the movies. Would also love to see your take on the Netflix show The Haunting of Hill House!
She is not Natalie Portman, she is Keira Knightley👍
There was an end credit scene btw. You should watch it.
Yeah I did watch it. The Friggin' Monkey! Haha.
Imaging you never watched these films until now and you could watch them to first time :D nice
greetings from Germany
Got my food and a drink, ready to watch woohoo
Woot woot... got the snacks and everything! Haha
You see Jack Sparrow plays chess not checkers! Always plan moves ahead, but be willing to adapt.
Its like with Harry Potter - the 3rd one is the favorite.
Sweet! Can't wait to get to it! I'll be recording #3 on Friday. :)
Have you caught on to the fact that Jack's buddy Gibbs the pirate is the same sailor who was teasing Elizabeth when she was a child about singing pirate songs? It's the one backstory they don't get into, what turned Gibbs into a pirate.
I don’t know if this was already said, but there’s a short Pirates of the Caribbean film called Wedlock. Gives you an insight on the first film as to why Scarlet and Gisele slapped Jack in the face, and why was his little boat leaking on the way to Port Royal.
Amazing reaction! It made me laugh out loud - which doesn´t happen a lot! Thanks for that! :D
I can´t wait for you to react to part 2 and 3. Its getting better and better :D
Peace and Love
Glad you enjoyed! Can't wait to see where the story goes!
oh no, the compass works, just doesn't point north
I never realized that Keira Knightley was only 17 in this movie! She looks like at least 20! 😱😱😱
Great reaction! The second One Is my favorite
I just can't see Jack Davenport and not picture him as Steve Taylor. That's my curse. I guess it's time for another Coupling re-watch.
SUCH a fun film!!
Remember where they use the lifeboat for walking underwater? And the buffoonish Royal Navy Servicemen Jack meets at the dock? Both come from the Burt Lancaster film THE CRIMSON PIRATE (made in 1952) which you should view for comparison. If you do remember that Burt (who started life as a Circus Trapeze Artist) does most of his one stunts with his long-time circus partner Nick Cravat (they do the same amazing routines in THE FLAME AND THE ARROW made two years earlier).
19:15 oh man, you missed that by a mile lol
If you've not seen it, I cannot recommend enough Accidental Genius's "Pirates of the Caribbean". It goes in depth of so many ways the movie is fantastic, often with little tricks the movie does that make it so iconic and memorable. it's an absolute must-watch for anyone who thoroughly enjoys the first movie.
Essentially she used a fake last name because she didn't want them to know she was the governor's daughter, making them more likely to kidnap her for ransome. Unfortunately she chose a name more likely to get her kidnapped for other reasons 😂
"The Code is more like guidelines than actual rules."
How I basically treat everything in life.
Fraggle Rock shout out. Gotta love it!
Hahaha showed my age a little there. Loved that show as a kid.
OK so since I never did catch any of Johnny's Pirate movies, this is the perfect way (since there are so many). Perfect time too, with him winning in court against the wicked Amber turd. Thanks !
Can´t believe that you were watching it for the first time.
yasss!! love potc 🤍
Just a heads up that each Pirates movie has a post-credit scene.
Johnny based hi mannerisms off Keith Richard's from The Rolling Stones
there is a deleted scene that reveals Jack got branded as a pirate because he freed a ship full of slaves.
