    Yes, thank you for posting these F5 videos. The F5 is, to me, the most beautiful, sleek, and sexy military aircraft ever produced.

    That was fun. Thank you very much Magnar, looking forward to the cockpit upload. Blessings to you good Sir 👍

    The inboard ailerons also give better roll response at high AOA, when the outer part of the wing is affected by induced drag vortex.

    Superb! These are really enjoyable insights into this aircraft. Thanks Magnar!!

    At 20:25 there is a view of an interesting fact that a norwegian F-104 pilot told me. There is no divider plate of titanium between the two engines. He noted that flying scramble over arctic sea in winter time in the north, pilots did not feel safer in the twin engined F-5A than the single engined F-104. Reason was that many type of engine problems in one engine - could spread over also to the «good» engine due to the close position. Turbin blade separation, fire etc. Statistic then you actually may increased the risk. Some single engined F-104 pilots jokingly refered the close proximity of the engines in the F-5A to as the «double trouble» solution. It may had some truth in it because in England the Avro Vulcan, after a crash, had to be modified with titanium armour plate between the two close mounted engines. A turbin blade separation in engine no.1 had damaged also engine no.2. And the fire in no.1 spread also to no.2. All 5 crew members had to bail out from the blazing bomber and the big airplane almost hit a small town despite the captain did all he could to last minute.

      Yep, the more engines you have, the higher the risk one of them will fail. The DC-7 was nicknamed "the best three-engined airliner" of its time.

    The temperature probe should be on the left-hand side on the bottom of the nose.

    The temperature probe you asked for is probably the Norwegian T-2 Cutback modification. Not all F-5's had this mod.

    Hi @FlywithMagnar , thank you for producing these videos. The F-5 A and E and later G (Tigershark) are one of my favorite aircraft family in aviation hstory. DO you have information on how the wing is attached to the fuselage?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  8 месяцев назад

      The wing was constructed in one piece. It is attached to the fuselage at four primary attach points, Iocated at the 15% and 44% spars. Two secondary shear ties are located at the 66% spar.
      Search for "NORTHROP F.5 CASE STUDY IN AIRCRAFT DESIGN" on Google, and you will find a link to a detailed description of the F-5 design.

    Great material! Were the throttle levers free to move sperately or was there some sort of a locking mechanism for normal 2-engine flight?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  9 месяцев назад

      It is not normal to have a throttle locking mechanism on two-engined aircraft. It is easy to adjust both throttle levers together.
