The metal zone is the best pedal ever made. I bought mine second hand from a guy who taught japanese sword fighting and went and collected it from his dojo while he was teaching a class. Possibly added about 80% extra metal to it which is why mine sounded so good
See? That's why regular Metal Zones receive so much hate. You can't compare The most trvest METÄL ZÖNE (yours) to those puny ones regular people have access to.
I have a Digitech Metal Master which I bought second hand from an Ex banger racing champion. It’s not the same as a samurai, but it’s still fairly metal
They sent me the Jupiter model. It's really puffy until you step on it, then it goes full metal at the core.
That would definitely have added some mojo to the pedal. Metal on metal, you know it makes sense.
@@ThorsShadow Well dont use it infront of the amp, use it in the loop then you can get decent sounds from it. But I think he is being sarcastic
I wish people and even ESP would realize how versatile there axes are.I use my Horizon also for straight ahead jazz
I play Mississippi hill country blues on my LTD eclipse! It sits beside its Gibson brother. A full ESP is in my future if I’m lucky?!?!
@@benlogan430 you prefer the gibson or esp?
The Horizon III with a hardtail in Reindeer Blue has been my dream guitar for the last 8 years or so. Perfect performance and such an awesomely unique body.
ESP and LTD are vastly underrated. Always solid quality, and great playing.
12ealDeal esp are top stuff especially the Navigator series ☺
Not under rated at all. I have a ‘93 Horizon Custom from Japan since new. It’s a beast of a workhorse for hard rock and metal. Way better built than anything else I have.
I have always wanted James Hetfield sig snakebite black explorer correct me if I got the name of the model wrong. I play blues 95% of the time but that is still my dream guitar. Someone with skills can get some awesome blues riffs out of one I am sure..Do they still go for over $2000?
I have a Screaming Skull #112 of 150, love it even though its tonally limited with one p'up.I run the Emg 81 at 18 volts, added a kill button, and traded out the volume pot's knob for a rubber vacuum line cap from the garage. Always used to hit the knob by accident and mute the guitar. needs a better bridge and nut, but locking spertzels helped quite a bit.
you must not understand the meaning of the word. if ESP were underrated, why would all the big rock stars play em? i'd say they're _over_ rated.
E-II has some of the best fretwork this world has to offer!
I would rate Suhr above ESP... PLEK treatment
Actually it sucks for one reason. Nickel fret wire instead of stainless. Sucks but otherwise cool.
I'd definitely rather get a MIJ ESP Les Paul type than an actual Gibson these days
Oh for sure! I hear Gibson's are having all kinds of problems nowadays and these ESP's look so sharp and play amazing!
Same here
Hands down. ESP is a superior guitar in every way
I have an mij eclipse
Better than even the custom shop Gibson stuff IMO.
Unless you have to have a Gibson logo, don't be fooled.
Yawn. Gibson are more than back on form, exceptional guitars @ standard level, let alone Ctm. Stop talking out your ass.
In the 90’s I played in a cover band with a guitarist who ran a Jackson V into a Metal Zone and then a Marshall. His tone was fantastic. Imagine my surprise a decade or so later when I learned from the internet that it’s impossible to get a good sound out of the Metal Zone, that it’s the worst pedal sever, etc.
Sometimes the internet is wrong.
The Metal Zone CAN sound good. However the good tones are few and far between, and really easy to mess up because the knobs are sensitive and have very wide sweeps. The new Waza versions (like Rob is using here), has a new switch that completely changes the way the knobs work and makew it a much much much better pedal. CSGuitars has an old video where he tries the original to see if it's "really that bad" if you want to see someone actually go through the controls.
The original ones weren't the butt of many jokes for no reason lol. Get one and try it yourself if you think everyone is completely wrong, don't just take my word for it. I've had one for 15 years and there's a reason it's just been collecting dust for more the majority of that time. They _can_ sound good, but they're definitely not good pedals. Just like you can get a super low end guitar and find some good tones in it, but it certainly isn't a good guitar. Worst pedal ever? Nah. Good pedal? No.
Nic Lastname So you’re saying a piece of gear used incorrectly produces less than desirable results. Noted.
Funny, I sang in a band for a while where the founder played that exact setup, plus some other guitars. His tone was absolute garbage. Then again, so was his playing, lol. Usually, it's the player, not the gear. But the old MetalZone DOES definitely make it harder than it needs to be to find that elusive sweet spot.
Ola checked out a Metal Zone in one of his youtube videos (too lazy to search for it, sorry!), but he put it in the fx loop of his amp, and it sounded killer... it's not a bad pedal, just needs a lot of tinkering / tweaking.
I think it's a very good pedal but only for those who know how to dial it in correctly. Like you pointed out, there are many possibilities for getting a bad sound as the knobs are very sensitive. The problem seems to be that the pedal was marketed as a straight ahead recipe for metal tone but obviously it is not... it requires some fine tuned ears and some experience.
I have been using a Japan-made ESP F STD Sanskrit guitar for 5 years and I also have 3 other electric guitars. I can intimately and fairly say that these guitars coming from that special factory in Japan is godlike. When I play them, I always amazed the quality of the guitar especially the fretboard. I haven't seen a fretwork better than this. I am not an ESP employee/worker/personnel etc. but the quality is GODLIKE.
Lee's playing an M-II not a Horizon, this is why the body is different.
Zazmiz Yep, flat top is an M, carved is a horizon.
I get the feeling that the ESP guitars never get a fair review in this channem. This one was mared by the silly effects and stuff. I would like to hear them trying to get the best tones they can out of them, in different genres.
Nicolas Isaksson I fully agree. I typically love Andertons reviews, but this one was them just dicking around and not giving a fair showcase of the guitars.
Because they eat up all other rigs in the shop !!
I think it’s because Chapman’s are a direct comparison to LTD’s and I get it. But I have had 3 Chapman’s (ML1 Pro, ML3-RC and ML1-7S) and 2 LTD’s (M-1000 and EC-1000) and I think the quality of the LTD’s was far superior to the Chapman
Yes I agree, dad rock boomer rock
Love it when Lee calls an M-II a "Horizon"
Wow I was waiting for this video.. Just bought a Horizon E-II 2 weeks ago! My first "NICE" guitar! :D Really liked Lee's tone in the last video they made with E-II's
chappers + lee upload = best day
ESP messed up with the E-II brand everyone thinks they’re inferior to the old Japanese standard ESPs even though they are still made by the same people in the same factory.
I own an E-ii eclipse and it is a stunning guitar that rivals others in my collection that costs almost twice as much. If your a metal player after an excellent guitar thats extremely well made and a reasonable price for the quality these are defo worth checking out.
I really agree, though I don't have one. but in my impression, exactly exist the confusion that you refer.
Yeah Idk why they would change the name to E-II either. Now it's gonna cost like 4 or 5 grand just to get a guitar with an actual ESP headstock. I have 2 LTD deluxes and I'm sure they're not to far from the E-II's or ESP USA models. They both play great and I can't imagine how much better an actual ESP or E-II could be. They have the same pickups, same wood, and all that.
I read a comment in an other RUclips video that said ESP changed the logo to E-II mainly because they didn't sell any Standard Series Esps in Japan. Apparently it was only sold everywhere else except Japan and now that SS Esps are being sold in Japan, the logo change must remain in order to glorify their handmade guitars with the legit ESP logo. Basically, if ESP would've kept the ESP logo onto today's SS ESP's, a lot of money would've been lost since most consumers wouldn't go out of their way to pay for an ESP custom shop when they could just pay half price for a SS.
And the R2 Miku finally featured! Forget the guitars
Proxima Centauri I have a miku
The E-II’s are made in a small factory with fifty people. The same factory as the custom shop which has like four or five luthiers. All the workers are guitarists and have gone to ESP’s luthier school for at least two years. Serious business for certain!
Good ?...I’d just get a Japanese one myself. If I ever get that kinda bread.
The tone has a huge Steve Vai or Satch sound to it, 2 of my biggest influences! Awesome sounding indeed!
I never thought I'd say this but the metal zone really helped with the saturation.
@@ivorharden Ahh that is very true
Miss Piggy the metal zone is one of the best metal pedals in existence, you just need to know how to use it: through the effects loop or even as an standalone pre-amplifier. That’s why it’s one of Rabea’s favorite overdrive/distortion pedals.
I haven’t played in a month but I have the green E-II in my jam room. There’s Gibson and Suhr and Ibanez and more, but that E-II always claims top dog in the room, it sounds better, and I think it’s the maple neck and Bare Knuckle pickups. The guitar itself is super, everywhere. Set neck, wide open access to the upper frets... the only reason to grab another guitar is because you want to sound like a 335 or something, which does sound nice. I love the ESP and will probably get another one with a Floyd, just because. Their customs are super cool looking with their colored inlays on a maple fretboard. A good 4K though.
Yea that's the thing about customs. Whether USA or straight from Japan you are going to pay for it, but it's worth it.
4k is chump change. Try moving out of daddies basement and get a job.
Rob is like that kid with ADD that can't just sit back and keep his hands to himself for two seconds.
@@samvimes5124 no ur mum
At least he's not *that* kid with ADD that can't keep his hands away from his special area.
I have 3 ESP eclipse. Such amazingly versatile beasts.
I just ordered the Horizon III. 😍
This has to be my favorite video you guys have done! Awesome!
I really like that you guys are starting to point out what each specific pickup is rather than just saying Seymour Duncan or Bareknuckle.
Why do these guitar companies insist on putting the damn volume knob so close to the bridge pickup. I don't get it. Such a deal breaker. Especially when they want thousands of dollars👿
I'm totally with you. A lot of players who started with a guitar that way (like a strat where it's right against it) don't seem to be bothered and people want it close to do volume swells which I never do anyway, and if I did I'd get a volume pedal. I started on a Dean ML where the controls are way out of the way, and now if I play one where the volume is too close like that I'm constantly nudging the volume down with my picking hand. I literally won't buy a guitar with the controls like that now unless I'm going to mod it because I can't stand it.
It's not a price thing though like you're suggesting. A lot of people want it that way. Just not me or you.
I love my 04 LTD Viper and have yet to find another guitar that plays as good with so much quality for half the price.
I aspire to play like chappers, what a awesome guitarist
Got to love the ESPs.
I think E-2 is for me. Just ordered one
I have a left handed red sparkle 2019 E-II Eclipse and I love it :D. Thinking of getting that blue fade to be my C standard guitar.
That Ecplise sounds (and looks!) fooking uh-mazing!
That M-II NT with the bare knuckles is absolutely gorgeous. Both of them, though I prefer the ebony fretboard over maple...but much prefer the color of the one with the maple board. Awesome quilt top on that one. Really gassing for one of these. I just love the M(Mirage) series. The Eclipse and Mirage series are definitely my favorite guitars from ESP. Super simple flat top strat body, HH config with good pickups, hipshot bridge, locking tuners, and a reverse headstock. Very easy to love those specs.
hallo dude.. you prefer (black turquoise) or this one (Black natural fade) for their sound and finish? I never try and see they live. I love both but I’m confused for choose one.
Glad to see esp with satin finished neck.
I have a MH-1000 with the ever tune bridge and it's amazing. I've been considering modifying it to fit a fixed bridge instead, but it's a tough call. ESPs are awesome!
Why would your do that? I love my evertune
More 30 minutes videos in the future please! :D :D
Why does no one make an LP-style, mid- to high-end guitar with just ONE volume knob? You have to go uber cheap to get it (like Epiphone Specials). I'd love to get a well made, pro-quality singlecut LP-style guitar with one volume and one tone and that's it.
Have a word with Gordon Smith guitars, they'll be able to do that most likely for under 1200
Why limit your options. Two volume controls allow you to blend the two humbuckers for a lot of variation in the middle position. It also can be used to create a killswitch effect.
Personally I prefer the 2V/2T, then 2V/1T and, if I have no choice, 1V/1T. I am not a player that only uses the Volume and only to mute but so many guitarists don't know how to use the tools they have. With a Volume control, you can boost, clean up the sound etc and with 2 Volumes, you can use them to blend the 2 humbuckers or create the killswitch effect...
@@BAMozzy69 congrats 👏 good for you. The boy said what he wanted and that's his choice.
@@BAMozzy69 Yes, I can see the use case for that. I prefer one volume and tone, as I like to use the volume as I play to change the gain level and I don't want to fiddle with two of them. I just don't understand why superstrats usually have one volume/tone, but singlecuts (LP style) always have two, as if people can't get past that paradigm. I prefer the 24.75" scale and the feel of an LP-style guitar, but I just want one volume and tone. I don't see why that's been ignored so long. I found ONE so far - the Hagstrom Ultra Swede - but it would be nice to have more variety.
LTD EC-1000P has three knobs (and a mini switch for piezo modes), but first is volume, second is tone, and third is piezo volume (for mixed or piezo-only modes). If you just want the master volume thing then it would wiser to buy a cheaper EC-1000 variant and either pay a luthier to wire the controls differently or mod it yourself, but the piezo pickup is a really cool feature and it's one of the few LTD EC models that comes in blue (it's in black too, but there are countless of those).
Got the Reindeer Blue one.. love it
😂😂😂😂😂 The Miku opening jam!!! Priceless!!!
Love my ESP E2 NT2 and LTD MH1000. Switched over from Gibson.
I have owned an E-II Eclipse and an E-II Horizon iii. I currently own an E-II Horizon 7 String Baritone and I want to add another E-II 6 string. I plan on ordering one this week but I can decide if I want an Eclipse, Horizon, M, or Arrow.
Pitdog360 What do you like better ,the eclipse or H3 I want it buy one of those but can’t decide which.
Leaning towards the eclipse.
@@A.D.D.O.C.D.T I think I liked the eclipse better overall
@19:22, @20:56, & @27:44 Rob should launch himself as Buckethead's British cousin. I could listen to him soloing all day, all he needs to do is churn out a couple of instrumental CDs a month and I'd be all over them!
Emg 57 66 in the LP style esp I would imagine. Great set
It is :) great pick ups!
Yeah I have one in my horizon III it is a great set
@@frankvanrijn964 emg has some great pick ups both their passive and actives :). I don't understand the hate. If anything I think it's more how people dial in their amp settings to make them sound bad or muddy. Unless you like that sound. Look at Korn. A lot of their older stuff if muddy sounding due to their amp settings and they have a great tone. Personal taste o guess.
"Them on screen" made me laugh out loud also Miku is life.
You guys do affordable guitars and equipment for beginners all the time. You guys should do the same for recording, like picking up an interface, daw and plugins etc to get started. It'd be pretty helpful and its a concept you guys are already doing
Metal Zone, Whammy and Miku is possibly the greatest pedal combo in guitar history!
There is also the Edwards series besides the E-II, ESP and LTD
Andreas Wagner Grass Roots too
18:59 "Best job I ever had".
Anyone that gets the reference is my instant friend.
Clearly Miko is the best pedal every made, full stop.
bruh wtf that metal zone sounds awesome
Martin Vetter its not bad if you know how to set it up.
It is amazing as a pre-amp
@Kornél yes but in that case its plugged to the return of the effect loop so that you only use the poweramp in your amp. in this case its in front of a clean amp, thats why i think its really weird
@@martinvetter2746 Right, it's because he's using the WAZA metal zone. If you flip the switch to the good setting, you can run it into the front of the amp like any other distortion.
You cannot have an epic solo without a miku pedal!
Yesss try it with an earthquake tranmisser. You will never go home
I loved the miku and whammy.
I’m going to write an action movie called “PLEADING THE SECOND AMENDMENT” and you guys gave me the idea. Cheers!
hallo dude.. you prefer (black turquoise) or this one (Black natural fade) for their sound and finish? I never try and see they live. I love both but I’m confused for choose one.
This video really made me like the metal zone Ima go ahead and buy one now
Gotta love how these guitars are now like €1,000 more expensive than they were when they first launched this line.
and without the actual brand name on the headstock.
If only bosses increased wages inline with guitar inflation plus rent, food, hookers lol etc
Always a hoot. Cheers lads!
I heard you play another e2 nt2 that was black in another video and it sounded so clean...better than the amber fade. I swear they have the same pickups....what's different?
Just been watching you two for so long. Was hoping you could tell me between the cleans between 25 min on this vid and about 4 min 30s into.your black esp...the one where the lights go out and chappers loves the captain's tone. Where are the two guitars different?
I need that guitar for Christmas that Your playing Rob. In the beginning of the video.
Can you gentlemen please Do a review on the Jackson Corey Beaulieu line. No one else is doing this and I would love to know whether I am going with the Jackson KV6 or the Eii Eclipse.
Thank you so very much.
Any experience with the E-II SN-2 version? I can't find any reviews on those.
When rob hits the wah..🤯
These are killer guitars--love ESP E-II instruments. I want one so so so so so bad.
AkiraSpectrum go to reverb and find an older model
That Eclipse in Blue Natural Fade!! 😍😍
Seriously wanted a Horizon E-II in black with Evertune.. for some reason only the Eclipse has it in 6 string form!
17:07 a true fish out of the water... 😁 thanks for trying Capitan
Flat top is an M Lee, "Mirage"
4:07 for those of you that want to hear the beautiful metal zone - whammy - miku - reverb
Oh, the beauty!
4:35 for some reason sounds like R2D2 taking a dump.
Is it the same quality as for example 2011-12 last ESP Standard models (which were saying ESP on the headstock but not being custom shop)? Pricing is close but aren’t the E-II’s a tiny bit more mass made then the Esp standards from 8 years ago?
No there made in the same shop as the custom guitars
I had a Horizon-III that I was unfortunately forced to sell for financial reasons...the build quality on that thing was stupid good.
Metal Zone stomp box - it's all 1988 up in here.
The problem with these prices is you can get a custom build guitar from a small business luthier much cheaper. 👍 Make that half as much!
That first e2 Rob played is the best one by far and I adore it
I recently ordered a ltd 401 (tele style) guitar that I wanted to add some aftermarket stuff too.. thomann guitars messed up the order and accidentally sent me a e-ii horizon fm with hardcase, all in all it cost me 1100 New Zealand dollars 😂
No shit i think if you rip out those active pups and put in a pair of Gibson 57 classics those EII Les pauls would rip and sound way better. structurally they are solid axes.
If i only had the money for a ESP custom shop...
Crap! Just bought Horizon DBSB , but that Mii fade looks sick. Well, that will be my next one!
Love the headstock (Lee's Superstrat)
I remember seeing something that changed my mind about the Metal Zone, after being convinced by the internet that they are the definitive meme for bad tone. I think it was an interview with Marty Friedman. He used it for one of the best sounding metal solos ever recorded. Tornado Of Souls. May have even stacked two of them if I remember correctly. Seriously.
Are the ESPs the 'crafted in Japan' thing? Assembled in Japan and the finishing touches like setups done there, but the routing the bodies etc is done elsewhere. A few brands did that. Edwards for example.
p.s. Imagine Jimmy Page hitting his strings with the violin bow and turning to each point of the compass like he used to do, but he was plugged into a Miku instead of an Echoplex. Epic? Nah, probably not, but just picturing it is kind of amusing
7:55 Lee, you're holding an M-II (it even says on the headstock) M=Mirage
Mr. Anderton himself shredding 💪🏻
I could say things about the Miku pedal, but I plead the 5th! (2nd is right to bear arms- not the furry kind)
Why is it Ola is the only guitarist who can figure out how to use a metal zone?
So want that miku pedal someone needs to make more for us to buy
I've missed this!
Oooooph, the guitar Captain played in the intro, in a 7-string baritone, do want
30.40, captain goes wtf!!!
I saw a Miku listed on the Japanese Yahoo Auctions......for about a thousand of your imperial credits of the realm.
I kinda wish they just kept the ESP name on the headstock and put the custom on the back of the headstock. I remember you used to be able to get an actual ESP kirk hammett top of the line from musician's friend for 1500 bucks. Now you gotta pay almost 5,000 bucks for it. The top of the line LTD's like my deluxe plays and sound just as good as the ESP's I think.
Van lee halen!!!!!!! Nice job on the tapping !!!!!explosion 💥 beware fukashima
If you think those guitars are nice, and they are, you should try a USA ESP.
Funny enough, almost all ESP are stated to have a 42mm nut and a thin U neck.. So it's quite something that they can feel *THAT* different.
When your bandmate buys a whammy pedal and uses it for the first time at a show
Can anyone clear this up for me. I’m looking at the E2M2 Brown Burst, the same one Lee had in the first part of the video. He says the neck is beefy and pointed that out a lot. Is the neck different than the other E2’s? I have an Eclipse.
Brian Wampler bought all the Mikus.
It's all good Lee Lee
"Plead the 5th" would be a great band name!
Oh I want that horizon that Lee's playing!
E-II = Expensive too. Nice instruments regrardless
If you run the Metal Zone through the effects loop of your amp, then you got probably one of the best metal pedals in the world. Try it out and no need to thank me
idk which pickup combo is the best but i prefer Rob and Capt. combo. Put that combo on more videos. I grew up watching you guys man like a decade.
