I've had a grey/tan leather MX-5 2.0 litre GT here in Aus (we get both the 1.5 and 2.0 litre) for two months now and I'm just so in love with it. My aim is to have it as long as you've had yours Tom, in an age where most people lease a car for three years and get a new one afterwards, I really admire that you've had it for so long. Keep on motoring sir, your reviews are flawless.
That last part put a smile on my face :) I believe that many of us have that magical moment where we instantly new, cars are going to be a part of our lives, be it as a hobby or a profession. My father always says, when I was 3 or 4 years old, I could already distinguish all the cars that passed us or were parked along the way and I spoke out loud the brand and model of every single one. I love your personal touch on this. Big thanks from Germany!
I was still in Japan when the first gen Eunos Roadster came out. It quickly became the best selling car in its category. I liked it very much even though I did not get to own one. I wish I could have the 2016 model. I would definitely have lots of fun driving it.... I currently own a 2013 370z. I enjoy your reviews. Keep up the great work!
+Rick H Glad you like the pieces Rick. I have a brochure of the Japanese version that my friend sent me when she was over there. I just dug it up the other day, it's pretty cool. Very artsy. Enjoy the Z!
+aconfusedazn Yeah, they're running on Evening these days at 7:30PM, usually on Fridays. It's actually the program these reviews were originally developed for but the producer of the show passed on them. Then the news department picked them up for 9 years. When news dropped them, I started producing them just for RUclips where the NYT found them. It has worked out for me...
You rock, Tom. I keep trying to talk myself out of this car. If I lose the internal "gotta be rational" conversation, this will be my third Miata. Single. No kids. 50 in a few months. I think I just lost the debate.
Tom and Driven fans, from the below cars which one do you think is an everyday fun to drive, proper performance and handling car which stirs excitement when you push the start button. GR SUPRA 2.0, MX-5, VELOSTER "N", MINI JCW, and 230i convertible.
Is the ND miata a good daily driver in your opinion (if it were to be my only car)? I know you own the NA Miata (is the NA a better daily than the ND?)? Thanks for the great video btw
Only you can decide if this small car will suit your needs as an everyday driver. Regardless of vintage, they all have about the same cargo and passenger room. Mine was a daily driver for 7-8 years and I had no problems picking up groceries and commuting. But I had access to my wife's car for hauling bigger stuff. Great fun to drive though, no doubt about that. Best of luck deciding!
Sure want one. .....if only they would have reach on the steering wheel. .....just don't understand why they couldn't make that in a drivers car like this. .....to give the diverse drivers the best seating position possible, for the optimal driving experience.
Thanks, Tom! Did you ever drive the RX-7 rotary? My wife owned a red 1982 model and it was a blast! Sad about the rust however 😥 Your Miata still looks fab!
+Mario Dalla Riva I did drive the RX-7 and was even going to buy one until I priced insurance (I was 21 at the time). My first car was an RX-4, still one of my favorite cars ever (one that no one knows about). If I remember, the '82 got a slight design refresh that made them look a little better. Cool car.
+Driven Car Reviews Great memory! They did slightly improve the styling at that time. Wankel was a real smooth revver! Did you know the cure to starting problems after the apex seals began to degrade was to pour motor oil down the carb throat while cranking?! Really worked but the neighbours weren't too happy with the black smoke pouring out the exhaust 🙀 Ahhh the good old days before dieselgate scandals... My first car/roadster: 1980 Fiat 124 spider 2000(cc). I can relate to the fun you had in your Miata. And I do remember the RX-4.
this model with what i call the soft top .... should drivers be worried in the yrs while driving in the rain ...that around the wind shield should start leaking? .... I have been researching different models such as the hard top or soft top and no where does it mention when the seals i guess should be checked out for leaking and is it also a great idea to drive through say car washes with the soft top ect....... please someone who owns a 2016 model respond cause i want one and i dont want to jump into buying without doing more research
Donna Brook I bought a used 2016 club edition and it’s NOT leaking :) or course, stuff gets old over the years, so in 10 more years, who knows, but top it’s cheap to fix
+Alex Rodriguez It's been a while since I've driven the Scion so I can't help you there. You might check some of the comparison articles that some of the top magazines are putting out. Sorry!
On all these countless videos about the new MX5 everyone claims the weight is 2,230 but only the sport model weighs that little. The club edition you are driving weighs almost 20% more than that, coming in at about 400 pounds more.
+Christopher .WalkenPNW Yes, Mariko was not amused. She first insisted that I sell the car (I insisted I live up to my promise though). I really need to find a place to store it, I have no space at my house.
nice bit of history, i'd like to review cars as well. but 27 years of owning 3 cylinder buzz bombs leaves me a bit biased. i had a 2015 mercedes C300 as a loaner when my 8 year old smart was in the shop last month, super fast car, but waaaay tooooo big! (like driving around with another car strapped to my butt!) maybe i'd be more telegenic if i had a Tom V wig :)

Your car reviews are the best I've seen. Thank you for all the time you put into creating a high quality review.
Great story about how you got into car reviews!
There's something about these reviews that just make them much better than the others.
Thanks for sharing your story. I love your reviews for the NY Times, glad to see you have your own RUclips channel. All the best!
Tom, you're an amazing guy! Keep up the great work. Really is a lot of fun watching these!
Nice story! Thanx for the review.
yet another awesome review. really enjoyed that personal anecdote.
Most awesome reviewer ever.

Man i want this car so badly
Nice story in the end, Tom.
Great car. Wish I had the extra income and garage space for a second car.
Great video Tom. Suppose the question is, which do you prefer the NA or ND?
Always liked your videos. Keep em coming!
Tom please do a video on your first gen Miata!
+Jay C Here ya go- ruclips.net/video/gyegcEMlAaA/видео.html
Always looked forward to your reviews on King5 :)

The original Miata rules!!! Congrats on that buddy!
Drove this at the MAMA Fall Rally, it was fantastic, even when all track sessions were lead/follow, video coming very shortly!

I like your story. You are right where you want to be and enjoying it.
Great review. Enjoyed the history of your Miata and the kid story of course lol
Amazing story Tom. Nice NA Miata!
nice story and yet another good review, Tom. But not even one powerslide? :)
Hi Tom, How would you compare it to a BRZ? Other than the soft top part? Thanks
Miata is always the answer!
Fab review of a fab car.

Thank you very much for the detailed response. I really want to get one now!
Did that leather jacket come with your original Miata? ;)
love your story😀

That's still a lotta shit paper in the trunk
Tom,Did you enjoy this new one enough to purchase?
No, I have an 1990 that I enjoy very much.
As much fun per dollar as any car in the world.
Who else got a Mazda ad before the video stared?
Miata was a North American market thing. Canada had em too eh?
great story
How firm is it compare to a Scion FR-S?
+Alex Rodriguez It's been a while since I've driven the Scion so I can't help you there. You might check some of the comparison articles that some of the top magazines are putting out. Sorry!
Ok! Thanks for your honest response.
nice story at the end ahah
There will be a hard top with remote control open and close using the remote like the MERCEDES SLK! Oh YES!
If the Miata name was officially dropped 10 years ago why is it all over the Mazda configurator?
The background music at 2 minutes @thatdroneshow
buscar capota de Mx5
Haha, my wife told me I need to keep mine for a long time.
4:14 wow this guy sure poops a lot

Incorrect
If I win the lottery, I would definitely get this. But really it's not that expensive just not practical to drive where am at, suvs rule here.
I need an automatic gear, I would like to test drive your car Mazda
funny, me and my cousin had to do the same sort of drill when riding in the passenger seat of my aunt's 2 seater toyota mr-2 in the 1980's =)
+Christopher .WalkenPNW Yes, Mariko was not amused. She first insisted that I sell the car (I insisted I live up to my promise though). I really need to find a place to store it, I have no space at my house.
+Christopher .WalkenPNW my kids did the same thing when riding with me in the S2000. :)
+Driven Car Reviews I get you're not going to replace it with the new Miata then?
You have to have the manual gearbox with this car or the whole experience disappears

+mr bad example I suggest starting with a Donald Trump wig and working your way down.
i don't think Trump has driven a car in years either. although i did put a Trump decal on my car today :)
the mazda miata nd is a copy of the rossin-bertin vorax sport of Brazil 2010
Watching this in 2021: Ahhhh, 2015 - when you didn't get "cancelled" for a friendly joke!
Can I have your car, Tom?
+The Real Drunkard Hu No. You have no idea what I went through to keep it. Besides, it's dirty right now.
Who the F takes a Miata to Sam's Club to by toilet paper for a prison??????
