Man, you should do more care reviews. I'm sick of these pros taking cars to the track and all. As if more than 5% of buyers will actually do that stuff. And that's coming from someone who does track days often. Thank you!
The main reason your review is too likeable is, it has a different perspective to it. You review the car and features from practical user point of view. I think, this is so far the best MX-5 review online. The out of the box thinking to review a car made it a fanstastic one. Keep up the good work. By the way, you sound like a very happy man who enjoys life. Keep that spirit in all your videos. Stay blessed!
I am watching a lot videos for the 2016 MX-5 as I am in the hunt for one for my upcoming birthday. Mr. Bronner Jr. has given the best review thus far. It is great to average a true owner talk about the car. The passion is there! This car is in his soul, his being, he is connected to the car and that is great to see. His presence in this video makes me feel like he's my neighbor and we are in his driveway talking about his car! Safe motoring to you! Thank you for sharing.
I debated whether to order an AT or MT. The AT costs more. On open or winding roads I wish that I had a MT. In city traffic I'm glad that I chose the AT. Both have plusses and minuses and I think the sales of both are about even. I did talk to a car dealer when looking for a used MT Miata for my son. He said the ATs sell much faster and the MTs sit on his lot so he doesn't like to buy MT Miatas. I didn't buy it concerned about resale ability, I bought it purely based on me. I think I would be happy with the MT but I'm also happy with the AT.
+Nathaniel Bronner Jr. On my phone with the bluetooth, it has a button on the calling page. I select it and it says "private mode" and I can use the phone.
+Nathaniel Bronner Jr. It isn't about resell value, its about smiles per gallon. And if you like to cruise around in city traffic AT is ok. On twisty roads nothing beats a manual for driving fun. With all the AT cars in the US, a MT MX5 is a unicorn. And, FYI, the roof mechanism of the ND miata is the same as the NC miata. The NA and NB are different, but if you have a hard time opening you roof in one of these cars you probably should see a doctor.
+Nathaniel Bronner Jr. The funny truth is that on the used market, MT's are consistently sold for more than the AT's. The market for the Miata is mostly enthusiasts, so naturally the MT over a slushbox is preferred. It may be different when buying new, people want a shiny new thing to show off, but in the used market the enthusiast markup or markdown is more apparent.
People who know how to drive a MT is a dying breed. I'm glad that my dad insisted that I will learn how to drive a manual transmission, it sure has made my life better.
Mr. Bonner Jr, I bought a 2017 RF and like you am very pleased with how it handles and looks. This was probably the most honest car review I have seen, and you sir are a cool dude.
Very well put together video! Nice to see a candid and honest review of this little car. I think Mazda really knocked it out of the park with this one!
In the world of car reviewers I have never found someone who could review a car with the humor and "i dont take myself too seriously" mien of Doug DeMuro but I think you could have seriously challenged him had you done these reviews as he has...and this is a 5-year old video...Nice job, man...it was totally enjoyable listening to you. Some people have the gift of gab and you definitely possess it !!!
Easily one of the most informative reviews I have seen. I recently purchased a 2017 MX-5, but since I am in northern Minnesota my only driving was from the dealership home. Spring cant come soon enough and until it does I watch reviews. Nathaniel covered some things that even my salesman didn't. Once again thank for the review it was fantastic.
What an evening treat to come across your video..Your voice tone and your body language, I just felt humanely connected all the way. You gave us just the information that really matters in a very soothing way. I just ordered the 2016 Miata yesterday (put the down payment on it)..and till now I never seen a Miata in live (even the older versions of it). I booked it and I don't even know if I would fit in it..My Mustang failed me lately and I was looking for a simple classic convertible, seen the Miata online and I just knew this is it. After coming back from Mazda showroom and booking the car, my only concern was "would I fit in it comfortably", and here you are in your video, exactly my hight..exactly my weight... and you just put my thoughts on ease :) For that, and for being the person you are..I thank you. God Bless.
Hello Mr. Bronner, just wanted to say that I truly enjoyed your video - thank you for sharing your insights! You have an incredible presence and in some ways you remind me of my father. I like to think that you two gentlemen would be good friends if you ever were to meet. Take care, and please continue to enjoy your fantastic car!
Thanks for your owners review. I bought the MX5 ND end of September and i agree it's one of the most fun cars money can buy. Even much more expensive cars don't grant a lot if any more driving pleasure. I owned three Lotus Elise, a BMW Z4, three Lancia Delta Integrale, a Seat Leon Cupra, and a Renault Clio RS until today (lI'm an older pal already :-)) of which i kept one of the Deltas, and still I can't get enough of my little Miata. It is such a blast. So if you guys are into a sports motor give the new MX 5 a try, you won't regret it as Nathaniel said. Word of advise though take the manual, it is one of the best boxes you can get for your dime. Cheers Oliver PS: I think my European MX5 ND sounds better form inside the cabin at least while driving it.
Yes, Nathaniel, you did an excellent job of talking about the features of your car. I live in Wash. State and after watching your video, I located a low-mileage (1750) used 2016 EXACTLY like yours (Launch Edition, Soul Red, auto tranny, cream colored leather seats, black fabric top) for sale about 75 miles North of where I live and went and bought it. Everything you said is true and I just LUV the car. Extremely FUN to drive even with an automatic!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video - very genuine review and extremely helpful going over all the useful practical points of using the car day to day. Greatly appreciate your time and explanations! Will be ordering one soon!
Very good review sir ! I thought that I was the only person who had problems lifting and lowering the roof on my 2001 Miata ! Glad to know that strong guys have the same issues, and that the new MX-5 has a much easier to use roof.
Great review to, better than most professional reviews, and having an owner talking about it is so much better because they are actually living with the car, and don't have to sugar coat anything to keep the automaker happy
Very awesome review man, really appreciate it. Very nice work! It's one thing to talk about how a car handles on a track, but it's an entirely different thing to talk about how you live with it. So I'm really glad you did this from a long term ownership perspective. They really hit it out of the park with the ND. I have an NA and absolutely love it, and seeing the weight only slightly more but so many more creature comforts, safety, etc., is really awesome.
I know that this video is not new, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I just bought a 2019 Club and it is also fantastic. Everything that's great about the old Miatas, updated. Love it.
Seriously thinking about getting one, but there is no spare tire and that is a concern for me. This is the best and most practical review I've seen on this car. Great job!
Im thinking about buying and I need to say that this is by far the best review I found! Long enough with perfect amount of information. Thank you very much. Please do more reviews, this was really great.
I'm happy for you! This is a truly fun car to drive. I test drove one with the MT and it was honestly a blast. It felt like I was a part of the car rather than a human controlling a big machine.
Almost a year and 20k miles later, my opinion is the same on the MX-5. I still love it. Someone asked me on another of my videos linked below what do I think about the new fastback retractable roof? It takes 12 seconds for the power retractable roof to retract. That's about four times longer than the manual roof and I let my roof back virtually every time I get in the car. Therefore I would not want the power roof. Too slow at retracting even though it's very fast for a power roof. I don't have a noise problem with the cloth roof. Before owning this car I would have chosen the power roof option. Now, no way. I also might choose the manual if I had to buy it again. ruclips.net/video/9CQ9zejPqOQ/видео.html
Nathaniel Bronner Jr. I habe my MX 5 car now two weeks in the same cooler like you with 160 HP. And you are absolut right, I love this Car! Greetings from Germany.
Nathaniel Bronner Jr. Thanks for your review! You've covered very useful points about the daily life with the car seating and audio systems as well as confirming the design for tall people. I'm looking forward to the RF, not because the soft top is difficult, it is fantastic on the 2016. I live down a dirt road in the woods and would not like to be cleaning pollen and dirt off a black soft top.
Great, honest review! I currently own an MT '97 MX-5 with about 87k miles, and would love to swap into one of these soon. My Miata is black, but I have been seriously considering this red! Thanks for the owner's perspective! Happy driving!
Loved your calm review. Currently watching about *every* MX5 - review while waiting for mine to be delivered in August. And this was the most fun to watch.
Mr. Bronner, thank you for the review of your MX-5. I am like you in that I don't like the "cookie cutter" reviews of cars now days. Seems as though what they are doing is selling the cars and not reviewing them. Your review; however, is very straight forward, honest and knowledgeable. If you do any other reviews I would like to see them also. I have a 2013 PHRT with an automatic and I agree with the "knee" assessment. I do like having the glove box for CD cases that I have loaded in the Bose 6 disk CD changer. The location of the gas fill opener is annoying but not critical. HP (158) is acceptable. Sometimes the windows don't go up in their tracks correctly and that causes noise in the interior. I did like the fact that you are 6 foot 3 inches tall and can fit in the car. That is a plus for the engineers at Mazda. Thank you again for your review and I hope you enjoy your MX-5 as much or more than I enjoy mine. You have a blessed day(s) also. Ken
Great review, Mr. Bronner! Very informative and I appreciate your professionalism. I can just imagine you enjoying packing your bags and taking off for the weekend. I hope to be able to join you on the road with my very own MX-5 someday soon, too!
the 2016 utilizes the majority of the features that made the 1st generation (1990-97) so great with added 'creature comforts' Which is really nice to see Mazda getting back to what made miata the best selling sports car :)
This review was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Would love to watch you go for a drive through the countryside and give us your impressions as you drive. :-)
SOLD! i am looking to buy exactly the model you have. Enjoyed your review and perspective from a non professional reviewer take. I also enjoyed finding out how strong you and your son are but still have challenges with the older miata lol.
I also own a 2016. Great review note there is a storage area behind both seats that add up to more space than a glove box. I also own the automatic, you can use the “M” mode on the shifter up and down as a manual transmission with out using a clutch. The paddle shifters work also in this mode. This is the best of two worlds. I think you have to drive it to appreciate it in this “M” mode.
Great review, thanks. The 2019 MX-5s will probably have a HP jump of 26. So a 17% jump to 181HP will be fantastic. Production starts in May of 2018. The 2018 production run was only November 2017 to March 2018. As of today, April 6, 2018, prices have not been released. I order goes in as soon as my dealer is able to order.
Really enjoyed your review. I found a great deal for a cherry MT NA but when I sat in it, I had to bow out my knees around the wheel as I'm 6 foot. When they get some '16s in my area I'm hoping that I can fit comfortably. Love the launch edition, enjoy!
Awesome car Sir, I live in Colombia so to have that "economic" car here you need 40000 us dollars (entry level) but with the power of purchase equivalent of 70000 us dollars on the US. So, as you can see, a young professional can not enjoy this car here :( .... Congratulations on your car and thank you for the best and complete review i´ve ever seen on the MX5 2016
Great review! Regarding the Bluetooth connection... It keeps your phone connected after you turn off the engine for a reason. For example, you have a conversation and you arrive to your destination. You want to talk on the phone for the next 2 minutes, staying in the car. Is a nonsense to switch to the phone when you can use the car's audio instead. Is the same for music streaming. Maybe I'm stopped, but want to listen to music. The moment when it disconnects is when you open the driver's door. Then MZD Connect cuts the connection between you phone and the car. And that is logic, because that is the moment when you leave the vehicle.
Actually when I turn the car off the audio system shuts off and the phone conversation immediately switches to the phone handset but the Bluetooth stays connected. You can't talk over the car audio system unless you turn the car back on. The bluetooth won't disconnect for several minutes or until you walk out of range. I travel quite a bit and rent cars and all other cars with Bluetooth disconnect immediately when turned off except the Mazda. I can see no practical advantage of keeping the Bluetooth connected once the car and audio system is turned off.
Good review. I was one of the first to have the LE in PA. The thing about the sound I mostly agree with but you like myself have an auto and the sound enhancement tubes are not there as the are with the manual so the car is significantly quieter. Like you I would often prefer the manual but I have a trip I make quite often that involves bumper to bumper traffic and I chose the auto for that and so my wife could also drive it on occasion. I have about 3700 miles on mine and no problems. I had a 1995 miata for 8 years and this is a big step up but the old one was a blast to drive as well. The top on the 1995 required you to unzip the glass in the back before dropping it and you had to zip it up when closing. It was a real problem and often I would just keep it the way I had it because it was such a pain. Led to some uncomfortable cold rides and missing some nice open top time so I can definitely agree with you point about the importance of the ease of use.
This was excellent. Good job. I am thinking about buying one also. I am 6'2 and was worried about how I would fit in the car. Now that you have owned the car for some time you should do an update.
Thank you for a wonderful, detailed review. I was concerned about buying one with an automatic as well as the functionality of the new radio interface. Additionally I also felt like the older Miata's would try and tear your shoulder off when lowering the top. Your video addressed all these concerns as well as some I haven't even thought of. I see there are a few aftermarket exhaust company's now that make throaty mufflers. One of those may be a good choice to address the milder engine noise, but I'm not sure if it would possibly be an annoyance with the automatic transmission. Thanks again! - AL
Thanks Nathaniel - it's 2020 and there still aren't a lot of (actual) owner reviews - some are week long reviews done by folks that do it for a living and they provide some good information but I really like your perspective. I recently purchased a 2017 RF (the retractable "fastback") model in GT trim and love it. What you say about the storage is true but I believe everyone looking seriously at a car like the Miata/MX5 really can't complain too much and it's inline with the design philosophy of the original and subsequent generations of the car - possible with the slight exception of the previous generation (the NC) which was largely based on the RX8 platform so it included things like door pockets and was a bit bigger in most dimensions. I live in a colder climate (Ohio) and like the RF to help in keeping the weather out. Sounds like you're really enjoying your Miata - do you still own it and if so, still loving it?
Good review man I liked that. Driven quite a few cars myself and am currently on my section no Mazdaspeed 3. I've been really considering either the Roadster or the RF now.
Thank you for posting this .... I am also like you i have been doing allot of research on which model I would like better and which yr is best to get.... now i see a owner shows more about it I will be shopping for one soon
i have a 2014 Equinox and my bluetooth does the same thing when i turn the car off .... i either have to hit the headset button on my phone or tell who im talking to hang on a few min
Very practical review. Sir, would you care to provide an updated review? How do you like this car 3 years later? I'm seriously considering this car as a daily driver. Thanks!
About the "phone issue" afaik the third bottom in the lower third when calling sends the call from the car to the phone. (Haven't tried that yet as I a, still waiting for my MX5, but the communications documents state that.
I have this car and did choose the soft top even though I have never been a converible guy. I am starting to understand the appeal now however ...but honestly my first thought was to remove and sell the entire assembly on ebay and buy an aftermarket hard top....why you ask? Because I initially was opposed to driving topless AND I figured by removing the soft top I surmised I could do a very clean install of a rollbar, have a really nice storage area, and a super lightweight top setup damn near free by the time I sold the alost brand new 2018 softtop assembly for top dollar ....I am still attracted to the idea except driving topless has grown on me ...And maybe I still will someday IF someone ever markets a reasonably priced ultra lightweight carbon fiber roof that would look good unfinished....
Hi, your review is very useful for potential buyers, so thanks for this honest review. I'm quite amazed and reliefed that you are 6.3 feet tall and you can fit just fine. I'm 6.1 and my main concern is that it feels very small inside. I have enough leg space but the windscreen feels to close to my head (blocks a little the visibility) and the seat position is almost at a 90 degrees angle. Hasn't this been an issue for you? Do you think I could get used to it?
Charismatic review, it will no doubt sell some cars. But my problem with the Miata is that it should have been electric, have better aerodynamics, better performance, say below 4 which is easy with electric drive in a light car. It could have been a world attention getter but Mazda has been very stagnant regarding going to electric drive. And even though it sounds like a pretty good car, it hasn't lit the world on fire. People aren't really talking about it from what I can tell. It was a popular concept 20 years ago but hasn't kept up with the world.
Thank you for the video, finally some review that actually matters, that isnt from some guys who are glad that mazda gave them the car to try. Is the trunk large enough for travelling around counry for two?
It depends on how efficiently you pack. If two people can tour on a motorcycle you can do so in the MX-5 BUT you must use rather small duffle bags. Laundromats become your friend.
I love the MX5 too, I may buy one. I have seen ALL the reviews of the 2016 online and this is by far the most useful, straightforward and practical one of them all, thank you By the way, is yours the 1500cc or 2000cc?
Amazing work! Thank you, this is what i was actually looking for without knowing it. Its a struggle to convince yourself to buy a car like this as your primary (only) one though dont you think? :)
Man, you should do more care reviews.
I'm sick of these pros taking cars to the track and all. As if more than 5% of buyers will actually do that stuff. And that's coming from someone who does track days often.

cant agree more

Great review... nice to see a genuine user's experience. I have the Mazda 3 so I am intrigued to see the "family resemblance" to the Miata / MX5.
very nice review. it is the actual owner's review I am looking for. Thank you!
the 2016 utilizes the majority of the features that made the 1st generation (1990-97) so great with added 'creature comforts' Which is really nice to see Mazda getting back to what made miata the best selling sports car :)
This review was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Would love to watch you go for a drive through the countryside and give us your impressions as you drive. :-)
So loved your refreshing and cogent review. I got mine last year...and am loving it. Your review is priceless. Thanks for sharing.
SOLD! i am looking to buy exactly the model you have.
I think you have to drive it to appreciate it in this “M” mode.
thoroughly enjoyed this review from an actual owners review.
Great review, Id prefer the manual myself but you can't beat the convenience of the auto
You're such a cool dude, I like your review like this, instead of those other ones more common.
Really awesome review, puts to shame many press reviews. Congratulations!
I love your regular guy, common sense approach to car reviews.
Great review! Thanks for sharing the owner's perspective.
Excellent review! One of the best I've seen. Thank you Mr. Bronner!
You did a great job showing off your mx5. Thank you
Great review, very thorough. We need more "real user" feedback, cause we're all real users, not geeky engineers. Keep doing this!
Led to some uncomfortable cold rides and missing some nice open top time so I can definitely agree with you point about the importance of the ease of use.
man thats best mx5 review ive seen, and ive seen a LOT of them ;) good job!!
Drove this beauty today! two thumbs up.
Shout out from NJ.
Great honest review, sir. Thank you!!
Just picked up a 2016 club 2 weeks ago. No regrets
This was excellent. Good job. I am thinking about buying one also. I am 6'2 and was worried about how I would fit in the car. Now that you have owned the car for some time you should do an update.
That was one of the best car reviews ever, thanks!
Nathaniel, thank you very much. I have just subscribed in hopes that you may share future driving adventures.
Yes, the manual sounds better than the automatic
Manual only.
i've watched a lot of amateur reviews but this is really good work. what's the camera you used?
+Atakan Çevik The Canon Ti series. The T2i, T3i and T4i all basically have the same video capabilities.
I wouldn't own an automatic miata but it still looks great. If I sell my 83 RX7 I might buy me an NA or NB
+Ty U. Love the RX7:)
Mike Smith Thanks man!
Hey you are a really great reviewer! Nice production quality as well.
Thanks for the review, very well done
You are a natural presenter , enjoyed . God bless.
Good review man I liked that. Driven quite a few cars myself and am currently on my section no Mazdaspeed 3. I've been really considering either the Roadster or the RF now.
Great review. Best I've seen on youtube.
Great review...thanks! I plan on getting one of these in the future.
Very practical review. Sir, would you care to provide an updated review? How do you like this car 3 years later? I'm seriously considering this car as a daily driver. Thanks!
Brilliant review I now have a mx5 recaro 2.0 it’s great
Really nice, in depth review.
second time watching your video! really good stuff, can't wait to get mine.
About the "phone issue" afaik the third bottom in the lower third when calling sends the call from the car to the phone. (Haven't tried that yet as I a, still waiting for my MX5, but the communications documents state that.
Nice review, very detailed and I enjoyed it.
I like your review, Sir! Especially from a car owner perspective. 👍🏻👍🏻😁😼🇺🇸🇺🇸
What a great review. Thanks much!
Enjoy your new ride. Hope your son finishes school and gets a nicer upgrade, unless you give him your hand-me-down and you get a 2020 or so version :D
you are a great reviewer
Hi, your review is very useful for potential buyers, so thanks for this honest review. I'm quite amazed and reliefed that you are 6.3 feet tall and you can fit just fine. I'm 6.1 and my main concern is that it feels very small inside. I have enough leg space but the windscreen feels to close to my head (blocks a little the visibility) and the seat position is almost at a 90 degrees angle. Hasn't this been an issue for you? Do you think I could get used to it?
this guy was awesome. great review
great review Sir. Spot on. cheers
Great honest detailed review!
EXCELLENT REVIEW THANK YOU :)) Wish i can afford it
Charismatic review, it will no doubt sell some cars.
Good review! But would only get one if (heaven forbid) something happened to my 2001 Miata I have had since new. Just vastly prefer it to the ND.
I have seen ALL the reviews of the 2016 online and this is by far the most useful, straightforward and practical one of them all, thank you
By the way, is yours the 1500cc or 2000cc?
+pompom906 Only the 2,000 cc is available in the U.S.
Nice review. The 2017 Miata RF was announced a few days ago, what's your thoughts on that?
It's 2021 and I'm looking at used one like this that is for sale, thanks for the info.
Nice review! Have you had a chance to drive an RF since purchasing yours? I am debating which version to choose for my next vehicle.
Thanks for the review.
Very nice review man; congrats
Amazing work! Thank you, this is what i was actually looking for without knowing it. Its a struggle to convince yourself to buy a car like this as your primary (only) one though dont you think? :)
It is without the experience of the car. It works quite well as your only or primary car, especially if you don't need to carry more than one person.
