Sounds like he enjoys belittling officers. It takes time to pick up speed and he berated the officer for using the on ramp properly by not having his foot all the way down on the gas when he’s joining traffic and needs to prioritise observations to avoid a collision. He’s also not allowing him to take any initiative.

The steering wheel air bag was deployed prior to the TVI. That along with the front end being badly damaged would indicate that this was a hit and run. Shocking to see the kids in the back. Some people have zero common sense.

This training officer is awful. Not only overbearing but giving the worst possible driving instructions. Good on the rookie for putting up with it and finishing the job.

If the Trooper who was driving was under instruction from the other Trooper as it sounded like, the instructor was 100% unsuitable for the task. Hollering at him like he did is absolutely unprofessional and way outside a tutor role. The most basic of skills in tutoring is to be calm, concise and clear. None of these traits were used in this case, and I hope ASP pick up on it so their standards and safety levels remain as high as possible.

I always worry about the Troopers when I watch these chase videos and hear the Trooper's seat belt alert beeping.

Training guy was right, the trainee sucked. Without the trainer getting him to keep on the guy, he'd never have been in position to TVI. It's called constructive criticism. Coddling the trainee does not get the criminal off the road.

TO will do things and say things that contradict as a method of stress training on top of the already stressful incident... makes the trainee better in the long run... this is one reason ASP has some of the best Troopers ....

He wouldn’t allow the officer to take any initiative. That doesn’t build confidence, just second guessing. Split second decisions require some spontaneous reacting not acting on someone barking orders with constant contradictions.

Trooper trainee: You must get it in your head that in Arkansas the safety of the innocent public comes in at a far distant second to chasing anybody & everybody regardless of the seriousness of the offense they are wanted for. If a few innocent's, inc Innocent children have to be seriously harmed while chasing a Walmart shoplifter @140mph... Then so be it!

Interesting education on how Troopers learn to "end it". I don't know how I would have done with the supervising officer harping while I was trying to drive at excessive speed , in traffic, trying to dodge pieces of the car flying off at me, and then trying to judge the PIT maneuver. Yeah I do...I would have pulled over and said "You want to drive?" I would not make it as a State Trooper.
