I can't believe that both Battle Bane _and_ an Etho-Bdubs horse course are both finished and on the server. Two projects that have been in the works for about a decade, both finished rapidly and at the same time. I honestly never thought I'd see either of these being played, but here we are! Now I'm secretly hoping that some of the Dangland classics, like that Elytra course, will make a comeback lol
this is a testament to developing and never abandoning ur best ideas
With all these minigames being built for the charity stream, especially games like Battlebane, and Decked Out 2.0 being built in S9, I think it's safe to say that this season will finally surpass Season 3 as the best season for minigames as a whole. S7 was close, but S3 was next level in terms of number, variety, and quality.

Just imagine, how lucky we all are. That really nice things like this exist in our world. Cherish every day, and never take for granted nice things. Consider, how less full our lives would be without things like this! A multi-decade tradition of making fun minecraft videos for the public to celebrate! And as the game gets older, and we do too, the tradition become stronger. We used to think a slab on a build was big brain building. And now we have advanced so much further.
I just feel so many things in this moment.
I know this is Etho’s video but can we get a shoutout to iJevin for supplying Etho and Bdubs’ games with the most niche items? That’s a power move if I’ve ever seen one

i love that people still make OOOOOLD references. the thing is that a lot of the hermits were fans of Etho long before etho joined HC. for them, its an idol of theirs they get to play with. just imagine how cool that is

The camera slowly pans from the carpet floor up to Etho, methodically slicing Endermen endlessly, sweat dripping down his forehead. His sword stills for but a moment while he uses his offhand to wipe at his brow. He looks at his XP and blinks.
Etho mutters to himself under his breath, _”not enough, I need more, more, more.“_ He looks up from the glowing lime green 5000 resting atop his hotbar, and steels himself as he raises his sword once more.
_”I’ll be ready next time. I’ll make enough for an hour of playtime. No, 2 hours! Nay, 3 hours!“_
The camera pans away from the Enderman farm. Etho can still be heard in the distance, just a quiet whisper of an echo over the void. _“Six hours.“_

the way the golden apples function are honestly such a genius idea, the strategy of eating or gaining points was already great but your ideas on how to spread them are amazing! you’re truly a great game designer

@@TyroRNG I don't remember what was said about point values, but do take into consideration that you can get your opponents apples, in addition to their head, when you kill them.
I completely agree that eating points is a genius game mechanic.

Love that Etho aims to have more polished less "rushed" episodes. But to me no matter what an Etho episode in what ever state it comes is a great episode.
I, for one, enjoy a good rambling stream-of-consciousness episode now and then. Gives good insight into the thought process behind each decision to see things occur as something is built rather than as an afterthought showing off what is already finished.
Etho is hands down going down in history as one of the top 10 monecraft players of all time. If not top 5 or number 1. It'd all so subjective but etho exceeds alot of everyone's abilities. And he has a very down to earth and realistic point of view. You can just see in how he builds
mad respect for going through so much trouble to get this done while being so busy irl!

it always makes me apprehensive whenever any Hermit says, "stand here. i wanna test something." especially Doc. it never ends well for the person standing.
Season 9 needs to end with a battle royal in this arena. Every Hermit participates. Let the chaos ensue in an epic content calamity. Do it.
Etho, I must say that this episode style is my favorite. The last couple years of minecraft youtube have raised the bar on editing and progress in Minecraft content (particularly the hundreds of hardcore RUclipsrs), but I personally love these kinds of episodes with a casual style, because you get to see the real side of the creator. I get slightly irritated with the amount of over editing in a lot of minecraft videos (never yours), because you don't really get to know the creator, just a bunch of fast clips and effects. This video as well as your channel in general was a wonderful contrast to all of it, so thank you.

That end bit with doc was hilarious! Haha!
I absolutely loved Battle Bane. The automatic equipping system was super smart, and fluidly allowed dead players to get back into battle fast, while the meager amount of equipment means not too much is cluttering the map or advantaging the enemy who kills them.
The points-as-food works well with the little equipment too. Do you want to eat your reliable points? Like, Bdubs ATE the points which lost his team the game..
The collection timer also felt just right. The long duration gave ample opportunity for something to be there if you infiltrated a base, and forced players to defend it, making it a weird sort of temporary capture-the-flag.
And the nostalgic blocky-style cobble-oak building style sent me right back to old hunger games. Bravo!
That timer idea is so cool, I had seen the cowebs before, but staquing them like that to be able to controle time is super cool :D
I really hope the hermits get to play multiple games of this, it looks like it will be awesome!

Every once in a while I see Etho do redstone and think back to how much more complex this stuff would have had to be before observers and slime blocks. He is pretty much the only connection I have to minecraft at this point. I haven't played the game in years, and I don't watch any other minecraft RUclipsrs. But somehow Etho is still a part of my life, since chocolate island, however many years ago that was.
I love that Keralis always tries to make everyone happy. Such a great guy.

I've admittedly only really started to watch his videos semi-recently (binged the life series a few times), but the vibes are absolutely immaculate.

About the math at the end, you said “if somebody dies every 40 seconds” but then calculated it as if every player in the game was dying every 40 seconds.
Yeah I got confused about that. Maybe he did mean if every player dies every 40s on average?

I think the Golden Apple thing is a great compromise between the points and powerup ideas for the dispensers.
I was in the operation room, and about to operate on this woman's heart, but then Etho uploaded. I scrubbed out, went into the bathroom, and pressed play.

I'd be randomizing the amount of gear each player gets, like a 100% chance to get one piece of armour, 75% for two and so on. You're a crazy committed hermit, Etho! Which is why you're the best

i’ve been working on developing my own game (not in minecraft lol) and just hearing your game design thought process really gives me a lot of inspiration! i love how you solved multiple problems and improvised the game flow by just added the golden apple that is like the ideal game dev solution to any problem!!

18:45 I'm listening to all these game ideas, and have that "the game is tomorrow" constantly running in the back of my head. So many ideas, so little time!
You could always put a "garbage chute" next to the point system that players can put armour and other non point items in that could then be recycled for future rounds, making it easier to restock and requiring less armour to keep up
Or also, armour could be worth say 1 point and heads 3 which encourages people to return the armour and it can then be recycled even in the same game potentially
You always manage to upload right when I need it most. Had a pretty bad couple days so I'm looking forward to relaxing with my favourite youtuber
