The mellow mechanic of beautiful high-end components talks equipment, Japan, Altec drivers, Western Electric, tubes that can kill, and the late Virgil Abloh.
As an old fart, audiophile I have only admiration and respect for the OJAS story. The future of the audiophiles and us the 1% of OCD enthusiasts is safe. This man also reaffirms what I already new, and that is old well designed vintage hifi gear is and always will be hard to beat for sound quality. It reminds me a bit of Oswald’s Mill Audio but only more affordable. Great interview Ken, keep up the good work.
Devon seems just like a really humble and down to earth guy. Really like his designs from a aesthetic point of view too. Never heard one of them sadly!
I am on the same page as far as interests in audio. Tube Broadcast grade & 1950s studio recording gear plus the Industrial design aesthetic from the 40s-50s. I love that he uses classic well established benchmark company’s for wire, jacks, parts brands that are made for the actual broadcast world. For me it was the vintage electronic surplus and the Japanese vintage HiFi that got me crazy for it. My designs in the tube guitar amp world is this line of thinking! Anyway so great to see you interview a person getting the next generation into this very secret world of audio.
This is a very cool project, Ken! I love getting to spend time with “deep geeks,” people who go way into a single area that fascinates them. My own mind drags me down many different alleys. Sailing, motorsports, freshwater aquaria, music, movies, science fiction, literature, art, audio gear, and many different gardening specialties are just a few that come to mind at the moment. I look forward to the next part of this interview, and hope that you will stay in touch with Devon, and take us with you in that process, in the future!
What’s up brother? This guy’s around my age and this is a cool project. I’m also into tube amps and motorcycles and wooden boats and old chairs and books and it’s really cool to see nerds deep diving into this stuff and combining their love of everything esoteri, but not so precious.
When I first went to Public Records. I knew the system would be very special. I was the only one geeking out. People just didn’t get it. Though no one complained of the sound quality.
Have the kit speaker (without horn mod... yet) and just finished building it. First impressions are really good. Very involving and 3d sounding. Lovely speaker! Anybody else here with some ojas speakers?
This is the single most interesting YouYube video I have seen for a looong time, thx I have a humble wish to extend to a Vol 3 and talk about how to build turntables - wish come through ?
Talented bastard. I’m clearly not doing enough with my life.
Me neither

I reviewed the Fleetwood Deville for an upcoming issue. Similar aesthetic. Thank you for your comments.
Thanks Ken . Very interesting video

Great Plains Audio manufactures and carries replacement parts for Altec Lansing speaker components, like a variety of 515 and 416 lower range

Great report! I hope to get a pair to review.
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 can't wait to hear your impressions! Are you getting the kit speaker?
You're an artist. You're a scientist you're a renaissance man you're a lunatic
...Stuff that dreams are made of...
Hi Ken.. The OJAS Phono Stage collab with Steve Berger (April Sound) looks interesting. Maybe you could review it one day?
so awesome...
The 9844 configuration (dual 414) made popular by Rod Stewart for Altec back in the day..
I need to try Ojas speakers. I have some other NY based horns and wouldn’t mind exploring the AL-like speakers.

Love it. Thx guys!
Anyone doing a review of the artbook speakers with the horn upgrade?
Heck yeah! Psyched to see he has a phono stage in the works. I feel like he might also do an SUT someday...
He has one. Will appear in next video

I want to get into upgrading my audio but I have no idea where to even begin it all sounds like rocket science. 🙃
Must always show more equipment than person /people, thank you Please!
Follow the sound!
👌👌
you need over 1000Volts to run it "wooooow" well yes it is a lot, but an ordinary KT88 runs with 850Volts so it can also kill you on the spot ;-)
Its is for sure not the future of high end audio! Hahaha
Does ojas audio sale raw driver??
No, he buys them from great plains audio.

Thanks bro
Hype at it’s greatest… the Ojas bookshelf was an off the shelf JBL 328c in a birtch ported cabinet. It even used the 328c’s stock crossover.
😅😅😅der sound des Interviews sagt eigentlich alles. Überzogenes teures altes Zeug!!👎👎🇩🇪
