After nearly 10 years with my 15" MacBook Pro (late-2013) with 1TB of space, as a DJ and also making music, I was tired of dealing with having to worry about space, and even moved files to an external SSD piggybacked to it. Also, system overload and fan throttling on warm days. Back in early '22, got the 14" M1 Max MBP, 64GB memory, 4TB SSD. Yes, it costs a lot of money, but I expect to hang on to it for at least five years, and I have never been more satisfied with a computer, laptop or desktop. Apple silicon is so game-changing, I feel like for music production, and even DJing, 16GB of memory and 1TB Ssd minimum for music and video is the ideal starting point. Even if you get a refurb M1, the overall performance is still fantastic. Good video.
I've got the 16 inch M1 Pro with 16GB Memory and 1TB Storage as well! identical! I use it as my daily driver and have been ever since I got it, and I also couldn't be happier. I'm a software developer. I switched from the latest Dell XPS13 to this machine and it was the first time I did not feel limited by battery life or processing capacity. This is my first Mac and I couldn't be more satisfied.
I had a Ryzen 5900x 12 core processor with 32gb ram in my PC. It was almost enough. My fl studio projects averaged like 70% cpu usage. And then occasionally when I go plugin heavy, especially with UAD, soothe, gulfoss, I would sometimes reach maximum cpu usage but just barely. I would only have to render a few tracks. That was a 12 core cpu. My thought was to get an M3 Max 16 core, but I see that the 16 core M3 has 12 performance cores and I feel it might be similar to my Ryzen 5900x which I don’t want, I want something a bit better. I wish there were real functional usage cpu music production stress tests. I will make that video if I ever get a Mac, I’ll show the whole project and every plugin
If you have trouble with storage space I would suggest getting an external harddrive (preferably SSD over HDD, a bit more expensive but way faster and more durable for traveling etc) instead of upgrading the storage space on the MacBook itself. That will save you money big time. And you just have to save all your stuff on the external drive then. It's prob not even slower than working on Mac's internal drive since that is an SSD as well. The ports on the MacBook Pro M1 Pro seem to be USB C and USB C has very fast transfer rates. To be accurate, it's around 2,5GB per second and upward. And you can sometimes get 1TB of external SSD for 90€. That's a nobrainer in my honest opinion. Only thing is if you don't want to run around with external drives... TLDR: Don't upgrade Storage Space, buy SSD External Hard Drive (if you don't mind carrying 40 more grams with you. That's the weight of a Hershey’s chocolate bar btw)

I broke my 16" M1 MacBook Pro screen and got quoted a price for repair that for like a few hundred bucks more I could just get a refurbished M1 MacBook Pro so I didn’t even bother and just use an external monitor and use it like a desktop, it’s ridiculous how much a new screen cost. I’ve never even dropped it, I just opened it up one day and the screen was just full of a bunch of lines, and had cracks, I’ve read this is a common problem that the screen is too thin and fragile so I figured why bother when it might happen again. I have a Dell laptop that is around the same age as my MacBook and HAVE actually dropped it and have no problems so I increased the RAM from 12gb to 32gb and will just try to use that for mobile recording. It just sucks I can’t use Logic Pro on it but I’ve recently switched to Cubase and Bitwig and so far I like it.

So I did the migrant assistance but had a few issues nothing major just either reinstalling a few plugins or redoing authorization keys. But so far I’m loving it handles everything I been doing. I use maschine, logic x and fl. Is quiet doesn’t heat up and runs better then any other computer I have. And I am running Monterrey Mac OS since my 2013 Mac Pro trash can is what is it had. Also I did get the 16 inch 10 core

Debating to sink the cash on a M3 Pro or just go for M1 Pro or Max as it seems M1 still out performs the M3 when using Logic Pro and it’s going to save me £1,000 I believe the only DAW optimised for M3 efficiency cores is Reaper and Cubase. I was considering switching DAW if I get a M3 but that seems crazy to have to do that when Logic is an Apple product.
@@adamgarner711 from all the info I’ve seen I really do believe going the M1 route with higher Ram will serve us better for audio production, unless you are using Cubase or Reaper like you’ve said the proof is there for M1 chips out-performing M2 + M3 in all other DAWs.

I have the 16” Mac Book Pro Max, with 64GB of RAM, and a 4TB SSD, and I’m so happy. With it, that I’m not interested in the M2 or M3 Max models. Even with a speed improvement, the M1 Max is so fast and silent,the only real advantage of the M2 and M3 Chips, their only improvement comes from a higher Clock speed which causes it to be noisier from the fans running, which is not good for Music production.
