For next winter you can insulate your walls, floors and ceilings. Some install underfloor electric heating. Make sure you secure anything that can be blown against your static in windy weather. Check that you don’t have any drafts around windows if so seal them with silicone. Build a skirt around the outside of your van lag all exterior water pipes. When leaving the van for a long time drain down your water system. Keep plugs in the sinks and cover air vents with fine mesh to keep mice out. They hate the smell of peppermint you can place cotton balls dipped in peppermint oil to keep rodents out. Pull soft furnishings away from the walls and windows. Empty all wardrobes leave the wardrobe doors open.
The tiles look brilliant and the rug into a carpet our caravan is just over 2 years old there a different world now to our first one 17 years ago I'm retired now we do 6 months in the uk and 6 months in a static we have in Spain best thing I did was selling our house there just money pits happy caravaning you two
That seems decent that buddy , I am actually looking to do what you are doing and moving into a caravan or for at least six months of the year I am getting some good tips of you 👍 cheers mate
Thanks Ivan, it's great that your bills are less than when you were in the house which is another positive for you both. I must say that Ginny is not just a pretty face but a great diy'er the bathroom and fireplace look brilliant. Take care and all the best. Stevie
You have got a great saving. And l love how you have done the caravan up making it your own keep doing what you are doing and it will all get done thanks for sharing x❤
You are good at keeping track of expenses. That will hold you in good stead. Are you able to save anything now , from what you both make and after expenses?
Fantastic job, Ginny❗ The darker color tiles makes the beautiful wood mantle just look even more gorgeous. Very professional.... You might keep your eyes open for a dehumidifier and start researching what's available and what size is needed and whats a good price. Your neighbors might be a resource of information. It is so worth it not to have to worry about mold under carpets, etc. By the time you see mold anywhere you have it many other places. Even if you turn up the heat, heat rises and carpet remains holding moisture. My two caravan friends swear by theirs. You do have to empty out the water and always amazed of the amount there is. They always keep their clothes closets open to keep the dampness out. I'm sure your idea of outside skirting will help too. You both are doing great staying one step ahead of things. All your projects have been so rewarding and we appreciate your sharing... Well done both of ya..👏👏
Sounds great compared to mine! The temps have been so high in Arkansas this past month! Our water and electric come together but show them separately. It was $198.00, which I know many people are getting higher bills, but still was higher for us than most summers. It is what it is and there is nothing we can do about it, except pay it! Just grateful that we can pay it without having to sacrifice other necessities! Love your channel!
Well done with the carpet in the toilet it looks really nice. Tiles are lovely your wife is a Gem 💎. PS I use a heated throw all year they’re not expensive to use.
Looks great and you’re making great progress ! Lovely to see that you’re also well ahead with winter planning ( Don’t forget the fleecies & those microwave heat pads )
Have you had to leave site for a week or what ever yet that you said the site rules stated. I wondered if they actually enforced this. So far so good with the utility bills and it's nice to see you are both enjoying it 👍🏻
I live in a 2 bedroom flat, full bathroom, kitchen, top floor, no noise from above and my bill last month was 21 pounds and 51 pence, we do not pay VAT or other add ons. In Spain.
The total cost over a whole year will be interesting. I think there's more to it than just money, if you pick the right site they can be a nice quiet and secure place to be when compared to the urban sprawl.
Would you be able to get solar panels, they would help with your electricity, I run a 2 bed static and a 4 bed bungalow with mine, about £160 per month in summer, which isn't bad 😊
According to our smart meter for our 2 bedroom bungalow our average duel fuel (gas/electricity) is around £2.50 per day, in the winter due to central heating this can double. Even more when we had those really high prices during the last couple of years. We have a monthly direct debit with our supplier and are invoiced every 6 months, thankfully our monthly DD payments have always been enough to cover our bill. We do lower the DD during summer and increase during Winter. Our smart meter so far today (midday) is reading £1:38 and that includes today’s charges.
Please could you tell me where you have your caravan, I know it's on the east coast and it's a private site which what we are looking for. Many thank. Jack H
£475.00 OMG! THAT’S STEEP. Contact Octopus Energy They are a brilliant company. All the Best. Ps We use a small Kampa Heater it burns 700watts on first setting we used it to heat up our Caravan. Or an Electric throw.
🏴❤️🏴 we budget gas and electric monthly as well as that’s how we get our pensions paid, our summer electric bills are always bigger because we need Aircon (we’re in Spain) but our winter electricity is nominal because we don’t need to heat the van except sometimes first thing in the morning in January and February, 🏴❤️🏴 we spend €40 per month on Gas bottled, and our July/August electric runs about €170 per month with our daily temps reaching 47c this summer we had to have aircon and fans for upto 12 hrs a day 😢 🏴❤️🏴
I live in a government house in Scotland i love of solar also but it's hard work here lucky to get two bars on my powerstation a day only things i use energy for is my caravan type twin tub and my mobiles and rechargeable batteries x
That sounds very cheap very reasonable. I would say my average electricity bill through those months was probably around £200 for the quarter so sounds good. I’m not sure if you’re paying a standing charge which is where the electricity companies make so much money disgusting
Back in the days when there wasn't a standing charge, units were charged at different rates, ie first 100 units 5p next 100 units 3p ect, they got their money in a different way
@@christinethompson3579 sprinkle rock salt around the soil where the veg is growing, another good idea s egg shells, save your egg shells, dry them out in the airfryer for a few minutes, break them into small pieces + sprinkle on the soil.
Are you comparing three late spring months in the caravan with a month average for the year in a house? If so, you will find the colder months much more expensive. IME, unlike my house, my caravan cools immediately that the heat is turned off. Friends who have used their caravan over winter during house renovations have told me that it is the damp and condensation that is a bigger problem than keeping warm. I hope your experience isn't the same.

Dehumidifiers are well worth the initial outlay, really make hot or cold conditions much more comfortable. x
That's very good, what a saving, every penny helps and Ginnys a clever lady😊
The 'rug' and fireplace look fab, well done Jinny.
Looks really professional, the fire place stands out nicely.

Any insights on the financial upkeep of both choices?
Very kind of you Thank you Jonny
My electricity for my house is over £!20 a month. Sounds really good. Nice you are settling in well. Keep up the good work with your videos.
So cheap, well done!

Ginny's a dab hand at decorating. All looks lovely 🎉
Are the tiles round the fireplace designed for the job. Just wondering as it will get pretty hot when the fire's on.
The gas canisters last a good while too! You have both been busy bee's! Looks good. 😊
It will be interesting to see what happens in autumn. The benefit of standing charge is smaller increases when the colder months hit.
all looks good mate treat her to some chocs
all looks very good well done
Great job with the improvments👍 jinny
Good man and nice update
Just put some solar panels on top of your caravan and disconnect from the Grid.
Well done both....Great jobs..

Very interesting we spend between £4 to £6 per day on electric in our house
Hi your wife don’t a good job happy camping
My electricity bill from April to the end of June was £120.00 we live in a 3 bed semi just the 2 of us pensioners.

I say! That is most splendid!
I haven't paid a bill in years here in Australia. Solar is a savior here. I had to invest in something, and I think it's paid us back twice.
Heh-heh, this is the UK - if only!
I live in a government house in Scotland i love of solar also but it's hard work here lucky to get two bars on my powerstation a day only things i use energy for is my caravan type twin tub and my mobiles and rechargeable batteries x

Can you get soler panels on your site ?
My service charge on electricity is half of actual bill.
Crazy.
Glad your electric bill wasn’t too much.
Ivan have you any tricks you use to keep slugs off vegetables please? Mine are getting stripped 😂😂

I’m in a house and my energy standing charge is £350 per year….then i have to pay extra for any gas and electric i use..

But didn't the price of electric come down per unit in the last couple of months ?
Marinas are a law unto themselves. One we moored on for a while charged 68p +vat per kwh! Total rip off.
That’s cheap
