I’m just about to fit a Chinese diesel heater in a box, piping the hot air into the caravan, and another pipe to return from van to heater. We’re planning to put secondary curtains in every window. Ours has single glazed windows.

Dehumidifier was what we used in Spain, yes in Spain, as the damp and mould was horrendous and I ended up with bronchitis. We used to have panel heaters and we had one in the hallway and left it on all the time and it is so much easier to boost the warmth. Decent slippers not crappy cheap slippers, I used the ones with decent size soles.

would think a panel heater would just send heat to the roof, look at 400w or 500w fan heaters, you can direct the heat straight onto you.we have some 500w ones but once warm will run at 400w so wont break the bank, no idea how good they are in a van because we use them in house bedrooms.

The best thing you should do is get a dehumidifiers I live in a small flat and it’s a godsend. It draws in the damp air and out through the filter comes the warm air you will be surprised when you empty the tank and the water it collects

We don’t have central heating and find oil filled heaters work well. We used 500w heaters which only cost a few pence an hour. The bigger 2k ones end up being expensive. We only have a couple of years left on our van before we purchase a newer one. If we had longer we would certainly have central heating and further insulation fitted.

I lived full time for a long time I was brought up in a static caravan …. I loved it …it was a residential sight that was 12 months so had mailing address etc …. It was affordable in comparison to some places :)

Ivan,love your channel, I'm hooked on your life adventure, but I'm a bit confused as your advice warns us to be careful not to buy an older caravan as in five years the site can ask you to leave,but in your posts I've gathered that you've not had your caravan five months yet your very much at risk of of having to renew your caravan, I really worry about you and jenny this winter, you seem like a person that can handle life's changes, but yea get your caravan as winterised as possible bro❤

Electric heated body warmer, keep yourself warm. Think you can get slippers that so same.

Have you looked into getting a solar panel etc. Might be a big outlay but hopefully should then supply you with free electric.

Also put a skirt all round the bottom of your van that will stop all the wind it definitely works

Try bubble wrap foil it does the job underneath your van put it in between all the posts under there it even stops rodents and you’ll find that it will warm your van. I would recommend this stuff.

You can get oil filled radiators which are low wattage and being oil filled will stay warmer even when switched off

You find something that works for you, enjoy it. But I would say see how it is getting through winter first before setting anything in stone. But I think you are happy from all we can see and you've found a place that really does work for you!

With the way things are going, many will have no choice but to move into a caravan. The costs of renting bricks and mortar are getting beyond many people's budgets.

I lived in a mobile home growing up. The distinct difference between a mobile home and a static is MHs are double walled and insulated. Statics are single wall. Me and my now wife had a caravan at anderby creek and lived there for a year as well as renting a static over winter in Sutton on sea. You need to be careful with the clothes in the wardrobe. It sweats and can turn your clothes mouldy, however we didn't have central heating. Halogen heaters are great btw. 👍

hi ivan. when i first got married in 1980 i lived on a what was termed as a park home site . my home had a parkray fire for heating it ran radiators and provided hot water . i don’t think they have this option anymore it was as snug as a bug in winter but condensation was a issue just a bit of back story for you x

Hi Ivan, nice interesting video, but I think your wasting your money on a 500 watt panel heater unless your going to heat a very small space, you need something like minimum 2kw oil filled radiator with thermostat which really do retain the heat, but again would struggle in a caravan. Always make sure you get everything in writing before you buy........and once bought forget about the money, its a life choice nothing more, residential sites you pay council tax aswell as site fees, i love being in mine all throughout the year.

If we sell our caravan on site, they want 15% of what you sell it for we don’t think this is right but this is what all sites seem to be doing😢

The company who own our site also own 5 other sites and each site has its own rules. Our site you can be on 20 plus years so long as caravan is in good condition. Another site states max 20 years. Another site recently purchased by them have said all caravans over 15 years must be taken off site. Even though the contract with the previous owners said no age restriction. Too many rules with caravan sites. Central heating a great idea but would you benifit if your caravan has little insulation. Heater panels better i think. Keep the vlogs coming.

Our site has all year round residents. The rules are 15 years for a van then it’s assessed every year if the van is tidy then it’s ok as there are some over 20 years. Our site fees are £2800 a year we are in Ayrshire Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 great to learn the difference between different sites thanks Ivan…

I just watched a video on a product called file bubble wrap it’s not very thick but it does the job and it even stops rodents getting in well worth looking into it. It will keep your van warmer as well.

If it’s residential it will be registered with council END OF - check postcode and go to council tax website - BE very careful buying a new static don’t do it - can’t believe how naive you are - have a diesel heater secret for when world goes to pot you’ve got heat - think about why they won’t allow diesel - coz they’re conning you on - electric ffs man - I’m on static 12 months - 3 weeks electric costs me £12 can’t believe your costs 😮 you’re crazy

Other campsites might be cheaper but their rules may differ

Even if its a 12 month site that doesn't mean you can automatically stay on it as your sole property even if your van is winterised.it comes down to the licence that the park has,if it's a holiday park licence then technically you can't stay there permanently,if it's residential thrn you can stay permanently without being at the mercy of a site suddenly changing their minds about you staying on it

YOU DO NEED TO KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND and the way things are we all need to be aware nothing stays the same any more so your right

I just found you … I was brought up in a static full time for years 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, thermal curtains , draft excluders , natural fabrics and layers ….wool socks , and a plug in blanket for 30-40 pounds , get one each …. Fir on the sofa heat yourself not the space , you can also get heated body warmers that run off battery packs ….
