  • A drive from Woolton in Liverpool to neighbouring Childwall via Gateacre. A look at why it is called Childwall Abbey, with some local history of the Childwall Abbey Hotel and All Saints Church. A Beatles connection is also included.

    Use to drink in the Childwall Abbey pub. Visited the riding school many times with my cousin. Use to have our own stables on the outskirts of Netherley, so there was common interest. Memories.

    My grandma lived out her adult life in good shepherd convent, was buried there,we haven't been able to get any information as to where all the convent interred bodies are,I've tried for years to trace them. Thanks for a great tour.

    Great video. I lived just down the road on Givenchy Close as a kid in the mid sixties. There used to be riding stables behind Childwall Abbey back then and I would hang out there at the weekends. Great memories...

    The real interesting view of the vehicles in Liverpool and perhaps all of England is that the drivers park the cars on the sidewalk. Here in California and the USA you don't do that. The engineers and city planners left room for parking. Wide streets etc...!

    • @Jeff1photo
      @Jeff1photo  2 года назад +1

      It has recently been made illegal to park on the pavement, but it is up to local councils to enforce the law. Many haven't because the roads are narrow and it would block moving traffic. Many roads were made before cars arrived and people had horses and carts.

      @@Jeff1photo I understood the pre-vehicle historical reasons. Just like in México. Cities from 1535 and same scenario but they have parking garages in the city or many homes have garages.

      There weren’t any city planners in Chidwall.. the place just grew on its own, like most old places in UK. Streets and narrow alleyways at strange angles.

      Hard to say really, I've got friends in Childwall who love living there. I'm not sure anywhere is totally safe. I think Woolton is nicer but that's probably bias 🤔

    There was a big old mansion across the road from Childwall Abbey it is now a nursing home I think it was called Elm House.
    It was owned by a Jewish GP doctor Dr Bill Dove and his wife Elizabeth he was also a member of Woolton golf club.
    His wife was the sister of the tory 👹 Foreign secretary when the Falklands war was ongoing Lord Bill Carrington.
