    You saved me today! I've just recently passed and I did my first curtain side job. I made the mistake of trying to undo the straps by tugging on the loop. It was so difficult! I thought surely it can't be this hard! Then I remembered you'd done a video about curtains. So while they were unloading one side, I was on the other side watching this video... ha ha ha... you truly saved my bacon! So thank you so much for that. Xxx

    Your teaching experience and your journey is a great combination, it scythes straight through the curious male dominated bravado of either not asking or not getting a straightforward answer to the most basic questions.

    Think what you are doing is brilliant. I started as a long distance lorry driver in the late 70s and obviously retired now. You should be very proud of yourself and sure new drivers will learn from your vlogs. If you start to do shoutouts would appreciate one. Keep making brilliant vlogs.

      @@TruckDriverHayley I'm a newly qualified HGV driver , not yet working though how do you plan or easiest way to plan deliveries i'm guessing the company will have routes / schedules all ready planned and you just follow the schedule .

    • @TruckDriverHayley
      @TruckDriverHayley  3 года назад

      Hi Ken, I used an app on iOS called Road Warrior when I first started. It let you put in all the destinations and then made you the best route. I think most companies provide you with a route that is already planned but I am contracted to deliver for a factory.. They just load up the lorry and give me the paper work and I do it my way. I don't need anything to help me know I have a little more knowledge of the areas :)

    The little Lever releases the pole the big lever tightens the curtain
    the curtain pole is placed on the deck of the truck especially when the curtain is fully open and the wind is blowing a gale so it makes it easier for the Forklift driver without the pole flapping and the driver having to hold the pole in the wind and safe for pedestrians walking past in yard etc and ideal when driver going to transport office etc whilst load is being unloaded but it makes the vehicle safe and a person can use a couple of the strap ends to take the slack out of the curtain if it gets too windy etc
    But great video

    I am an electroplater in the Black Country and have literally plated millions of those curtainsider hooks over the past 49 years. I only have two years, three weeks and two days left before I retire. I so wish I had been a lorry driver rather than working my butt off in a smelly noisy factory doing minimum 12 hour shifts. I do however try to escape on a Sunday, usually out driving my vintage lorry, and I love it.

    • @TruckDriverHayley
      @TruckDriverHayley  3 года назад +1

      Hi again DJ, I see you aren't counting down to your retirement then?? Haha. I deliver for an electroplating factory. I collect bins/stillages full of nuts, bolts, car parts etc from customers, take them to be plated and then deliver them back to the customer. I agree, the factory is very noisy and full of dirty air. Enjoy your Sundays, you deserve them 😊

      @@TruckDriverHayley Hello Hayley. I very quickly worked out which electroplater you collect and deliver for, they were competitors to us for many years, but we now just specialize in one finish that no one else wants to do, and we are mad bonkers busy. And yes, i am counting the days till i retire, as of next Wednesday the 28th i will have been here in the one and only job ive had since leaving school for 49 years.
      I am currently binge watching you videos, up to no 30 so far.
      Take care and drive safe.

    Looks like you're learning a lot! If you want to loosen the curtain buckles, exercise the buckle while pulling down on the hook and it'll release. There are other types of buckles but the ones on yours are the more complicated type. Try to keep from folding the fabric of the curtain at the front, it's designed to go over the handle mechanism rather than fold up. Oh and make sure you don't pull them as tight as they go, it can pull the roof down!

    • @TruckDriverHayley
      @TruckDriverHayley  4 года назад

      Blimey! I'm not strong enough to pull the roof down.... Maybe in a few months when I've done enough ratchet strapping! Haha

    • @taegancollyer1768
      @taegancollyer1768 4 года назад

      @@TruckDriverHayley I didn't mean it quite that literally! Next time you're on the road you'll notice some curtainsiders roofs bend down in the middle, that's what you want to avoid, repeatedly over time that'll weaken the roof and they are only built for weather protection.

    Remember my first day on the job. Yard manager took me out to the vehicle and went through the load and drops, he checked the straps and asked if I was happy the load was secure. I was. He then proceeded to close the curtains while I got set up. Got to the first drop and I knew how to take the side straps off (self explanatory in my opinion) but then went to the curtain pole and I'm just stood there looking at it with the levers thinking 'how the f*ck do you open curtains?' So then I'm stood there trying not to look completely incompetent while watching you tube videos on how to open curtains 😂
