Jay, You are first guy that actually have used the racket strap as it was intended by the manufactures. You thread the webbing through the racket and pull tight then adjust the racket. I did trails with companies back in the early 80's for the strap, (we used to call them checkered strape, because of there webbing design and colour at the time) before then it was roping and sheeting. Thank you for doing it the correct way. The other way, works but how they are intended to. So thank you.

You need to stop learning from this lad. He’s not a registered trainer and he never strapped the load correctly. Get the correct training from the registered training companies out there or you will end up with points on your license if your caught.

Strapping might not be required in this case by EU regulations as the trailer is rated as an "XL" due to the EU standard "EN 12642 XL", when using the global blocking method for securing the load. However, it's allways a good thing to strap the cargo in a curtain side trailer.

Try taking the tablet out of the case and seeing if it works. I have trouble in our Volvos getting GPS signal on my phone when using Google Maps, my old Garmin satnav used to have trouble too - couldn't find where you were, kept thinking you were going off route, kept freezing and not updating when I was driving. Missed a few turns with it when going to new places. Never had any problems in our MANs...Turns out it's the tracker installed by the company that's in the dashboard. Mine had malfunctioned, when the chap came out and I told him that, he said it'll be more than likely the electronic box that everything plugs into. Changed that and the TomTom (ended up returning the Garmin, one problem after another) has been fine ever since. Phone's temperamental depending on where I have it in the cab - if it's anywhere near the middle of the dashboard then it won't usually work.
Thanks for that ratchet strap tutorial, I've been driving for a couple of years, but only done tankers so wouldn't have a clue. Know I done it for my MOD 4, but I can't remember now. You're right about Trucknet. all the best Jay, drive safe👍👍

The standard iPad does not have the GPS chipset (it can use wife/bluetooth for location services, but obviously not on the move), only the mobile SIM equipped iPad does. The alternative is to use something like the Google Nexus which does have a GPS chipset and doesn't need a SIM.

Hello Jay, hope you’re keeping well. My name is Robert from Manchester although I’ve now been living in Qatar in the Middle East since 2010. I was a truck driver in the UK 10 years. I last drove a truck on the UK roads back in 1998. I did about 4 years on general haulage, 3 of them for Stobarts based in Warrington, and then 6 years on hazardous chemical waste tankers. Can I ask you a few questions that you maybe able to answer on a future video.
1, Regarding the strapping of loads. If you loaded a trailer and needed to strap it like those fertiliser pallets and then drop in your yard, after dropping the trailer, would you take your straps off or leave them on and get more straps from the office ? How does that work.
2, I’m sorry but I only joined your channel a few months ago. Can I ask, what is your history from leaving school, what did you do before driving, how did you get into driving and who have you worked for so far driving what types.
3, Your depot, whereabouts in the UK is that place. For some reason I thought you worked based in Liverpool.

It wouldn't be classed as insecure, them pallets are maybe 400kg each so let's say 800kg as double stacked... Internals rated to 400-450kg depending on brand of trailer. You only need to ensure any strapping stopping side to side movement is within 50% of the weight of goods. Plus they look to be 2 internals per pallet. The worst is the rear pallets not been secured to stop backward movement

Interestingly I have been trained by Renault to understand the technology on the Renault T range and I prefer them to anything else. They have many advantages to other trucks and are good to driver and sleep in. I often ask other drivers who are disrespectful towards the Renault if they have ever driven one. Often is they haven’t and are commenting on a truck they have never driven!

@@harlingthetrucker9971 major operator that works with us had a whole load of them, and put it this way, they were gone before the planned lease period was up. But, I guess some like them and some don't 🤷‍♂️. That's why it's good there are so many options on the market I guess.

@lee C there is so many lazy drivers out there but also lazy companies that push there drivers to the point they dont strap as they will get an ear ache if they take to long
and I fully agree I would rather 50 straps to many than 1 not enough

Things have obviously changed! I worked on long distance work for about 8 years in the 2000s, mainly curtain siders on uk and continental work and in all honesty, I wouldn’t have strapped this load, I would have put a couple of straps on the last pallets and maybe an internal strap over the double stacked but that’s it...That was the norm for every company I worked with back then and I never lost a load!
Even when we loaded bricks, we would start the load about 4-5 m from the headboard and double strap the first packs over the front and sides and that was it, if 28t of bricks want to move because the driver isn’t driving to the conditions of his load no straps will stop that!
That load can’t go forward providing the forklift driver has loaded it tight all the way down, it can only go sideways and if they move it’s because the driver has entered a bend far to fast for the vehicle he’s driving!
I was in my 20s then and I learnt more from the old school drivers than from any books, just because you’ve been told to do this in a classroom by somebody who’s probably never driven a wagon, doesn’t mean they are correct!
