    Cucumbers are so much fun to grow. We had some plants in the kitchen window, then realized they weren't partenocarp (they needed pollination) so we put them outside. In two weeks time they were taller than me and you can almost see the fruits grow, so fast.

      you will outgrow it very fast, theyre actually smaller then they let on
      (9 pod systems give u like... 3 - 4 plants and the rest are spacers)
      plant height, even with thier own pods gets too big, its a PITA...

    I like the idea of spiraling the plant up. It's just like the do it in large greenhouses, just in a spiral instead of just left to right :-)
    You can refill kratky style growings, too. You start at the level of the net cups as usual and use a float valve to refill the water level to about 50% of the tank. Dr. Kratky does this, too. So you don't necessarily need an air stone.

    This video came right on time for me. I have never been successful with cucumbers. I always end up killing the plant or getting only male flowers. I just started a plant 2 weeks ago and put it in my kratky setup. It is my first soil less cuke and it seems to be doing well. I'm hoping to have something to show soon.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  3 года назад +3

      it could be that your cucumber variety is monoecious. These types produces only male flowers for 2-3 weeks before female flowers will show. Try getting parthenocarpic, or gynoecious varieites. These produce mostly female, and very early.

  • @TronSAHeroXYZ

    I love growing indoor hydroponic cannabis, tomatoes, lettuce, and broccoli. So good. I avoid rock-wool as it is prone to algae formation. Hydro-ton is effective, low-cost, re-usable with cleaning, saves the environment from being overrun with hydro-ton pebbles, and rockwool cubes. Never fill nutrient above the top ground line for the root balls. Algae thrives on the very top layer of the hydro-ton. If the water level is below the top layer it will prevent algae build up. 3 gallon buckets are great, and you can 3d print some basket lids from PLA which is made from cornstarch based plastic. PH and EC readings are all you need really. Just PH the water to 5.7 or even a bit lower as the PH will rise to 7 after the plants start drinking the nutrients. Add Part A to 500-600 EC reading, Add Part B to 700-900 EC, Add CalMag to 950-1000 EC reading. And you have plants. Aerating the water vigorously will make the plants grow wild.
    Make the ratio's of nutrients as you wish, and learn over time. GOOD LUCK.

Also, is there an alternative to rock wool that cab be used? Last question, do you have any idea of your energy consumption for your set up? Curious how much this increased your light bill. Thanks! :-)

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  3 года назад

      Honestly, I really didn't look too much at my energy consumption, but there is not a huge increase. Cucumbers are heat loving plants, but you can probably find a variety that may work well in cooler climate. Alternative to rockwool is hydroton or seed plugs like these amzn.to/32OHvou

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  3 года назад +3

      I believe Diva is parthenocarpic and will produce both male and female, but pollination is not enquired to produce seedless cucumbers. Check pH and your nutrients as well as temperature. Sometimes they abort fruits when temperature is above 90F without air circulation.
