I agree there is very little information about growing veg and fruit indoors. I will follow along with u. I've been growing indoors for years. Led is well worth the upfront cost. Your electric bill will sky rocket. This video was made a yr ago and one month in. Maybe he has updated the running cost of those lights. Also the large leaves are sign of not enough light or not close enough.
Awesome video, I have no choice but to copy you. I was watching a video on how worms till the soil and create tunnels through the soil and provide perfect drainage and aeration. I'm going to add pumice lava rock to my soil to get even more air in the soil and get the same effect as worm tunnels. Researchers studied pumice and found that it holds the perfect amount of water and air.
This video is super helpful. Really, the information provided here is a new bar! I already bought a small, high-end grow tent, along with high-quality LEDs. My tent is only 5' X 2'. I just want to grow a couple of pepper plants and herbs. The only thing I'm trying to figure out is this: My basement is just gross, so I don't feel comfortable growing food plants down there. I have a home office and could easily fit the tent inside that room. However, most of these grow tent vids are about growing weed, and they are always touting the need for a lung room. I'm not interested in growing such things, I'd just like to know if there are any health concerns for me to be aware of in terms of spending 10 hrs per day in my home office with my veggies/herbs and I sharing the same air. With my inline exhaust fans sucking the tent air and venting that air into my living space, is that air going to likely stink or make me ill? What about the health of my plants, is it okay for them to "breathe" the air that I'm expelling into the same room? Thanks for any help?
@@PureBlood42 Thanks for your support! If you are venting out in a common area in your home, then you may get a slight soil odour from the tent venting. You can just test it out. If you do notice a slight odour, then try to position your tent close to a window and vent it outside as best you can. It is not a big issue for a smaller tent, but watch also for humidity levels in your home during winter months. I have no issues with humidity in my home with a larger tent. Please check out my latest video where I recap basics about venting and lighting. Note that I switched to LED’s a while back too. Cheers 🌱
Great video! Curious as to what your'e feeding these plants. Are you top feeding them organic nutrients or bottled plant food? I'm wondering if there's any do's or don'ts with the plant food, being that they're going to be eaten. I found the next video explaining the worm castings, but your not feeding them anything else? Bone meal, Seaweed, etc..I take it your water PH is adjusted as well? Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for your support! I only use worm castings dissolved into water. My water PH here is stable and I use the full drip irrigation system. You could add bone meal or other soil additives, but I have found this unnecessary. Happy growing! 🌱🌱🌱

Super helpful! Can you stack shelves with lighting underneath each shelf to maximize the space or does that not work in grow tents? I'm not sure how much the light is maximized inside there but I would like to have a few levels. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for the nice support! Recommended to grow with vertical growth systems instead of stacking shelves. You would need a ton of lights if you stack shelves. If you go with shelves, make sure you keep a good distance between each shelf to ensure light can get in between each shelf. Let me know if you need any more help 🌱
Beautiful garden, i cant reccomend LEDs enough though, performance of LEDs has caught up and suprassed HPS and MH for efficiency and for yield. Do you find the co2 bags to be effective with your tent being exhausted? It would be interesting to see the actual co2 levels with the bags vs without them with your tent being constantly exhausted.
@@deleqtronica8733 Thanks for the great comments! I did switch to LED lighting in my second season with great results. The CO2 bags work great to raise levels in the tent. Just getting my 3rd season ready to go. Cheers 🌱
@indoorgardeningguy1668 that's interesting, I figured co2 levels would level off with the exhaust fan, maybe this is something I should reconsider. Thanks for sharing, I always take for granted how cool a grow tent looks even when I have my own, I'm sure this has helped and inspired many people to start their own indoor garden.
Great looking tent, but I am not sure LEDs are expensive - at least, not in the US. It was the cheapest option for the amount of light we wanted and the power draw is minimal.

Hello there... I am gathering couple other things before I begin planting. What about fertilizer? I got fish emulsion, worm castings and some other plant "food" granuals. Thanks for your comment! In my other video referencing “My secret food for vegetables” you will see that I use worm castings. loved the ideas you put in this video... I am in an area that does not have basements...water table issue. Do you think it could be adapted to above ground?
Thank you for the nice comment! Yes for sure on your main level for set up. Just pick a room or area you have some space and you could accommodate a smaller tent like the 5x5 foot tent I referenced in my other video about cost setup. Amazon is a great place to find the tents. Cheers
I didn't have much luck with a CO2 bag, I did Install a wall burner close to my tent that provided heat for the basement and also supplied CO2 to my tent. I just left one of the bottom vents on my tent open opposit side of my vent fan so It will pull the CO2 into my tent. (Used the bottom vent as CO2 is heavier than oxygen and settles lowerer to the ground). You have an Awesome Setup thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the great support! Another great idea for creating CO2 in your tent. I have been using the CO2 bags for many years and they work so well for me. Happy gardening and let me know if you have any more questions or tips to share with us. Cheers
@@Ameds613 I switched to LED’s in Season 2. Much more cost effective. Power bills dropped by 1/3 when I switched. Current cost estimate for my LED setup is around $25 to $30 per month at current rates for running five 2000 watt equivalent LED’s. Thanks 🌱
I'm curious about the lighting. Do you need to adjust the height of your lights for seedling stage or is your lighting set up sufficient for all stages and no need to adjust? I've heard lights need to be very close to the seedlings or they will get leggy. What is your experience?
For MH and HPS bulbs you don’t really need to lower them too much in a reflective tent as it is kind of like “the sun”. For LED lighting I lowered mine to about 1.5 feet above until the seeds germinated. Then I moved them up as far as they could go. LED’s are a little bit less intense and concentrate on a smaller area compared to MH and HPS bulbs. I hope this helps🌱

woah nice big tent, im thinking of doing similar on a smaller scale though. im interested how your citrus do under the hps compared to the MH cause hps tends to make plants stretch more and maybe not bush out with side shoots as much. you have a lot of space in that tent you could easily fit some eggplant, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, cucumbers, spring onions, courgettes, pretty much anyyyyyyyyyyything you like eating and it would be cool to try a bunch of things and see how they do. 2 things: your ballast placement is risky, they should be away from combustible materials, sat on a concrete block or something. your store bought soil has fungus gnats and probably other pests. i really recommend coco coir bricks and re-hydrate them, they are pest free, plants grow very well in it with a little added perlite and using the correct npk value liquid fertilizer for the plants that you grow.
Thanks for your support! The digital ballasts I have are sitting on small risers so no issues. I will also be experimenting with other veggies. The citrus plants are responding very well with the HPS light overhead.
With a lot of your suggested plants, he'd then have to pollinate by hand. Tomatoes and green beans, etc. are self-pollinating. Just one thing to consider.
@@Undercoverbooks only eggplant would need pollinating and the other ones you think need pollinating wont because there are self fertile versions available
Thank you for your support! I leave them on for about 10 hours per day after germination, but you can leave it on for 12 to 14 hours if you want. Happy growing!
Thank you for this video, looking to do something similar .Do you think I can set up a grow tent in an unheated garage during winter (live in southern Ontario-Canada zone 5 -ish ) ?
Thanks for your support! Yes you can set up in your garage if you have space. The HPS and MH bulbs will heat up the tent and ensure you vent the exhaust out into the garage. If you have a smaller garage, please watch out for humidity in the garage. If the humidity rises above 45%, you may want to vent the tent exhaust outside of the garage. Let me know if have any more questions. Cheers and happy growing!🌱🌱🌱

Wouldn't it be interesting if we could use noxious fumes from household appliances like natural gas furnaces, or heat pumps that burn oil, if that exhaust could be vented through growing houses and strip the exhaust of CO2. We could use the CO2 we produce to provide growth benefits to plants...
Surprised to see the light requirements to be described in watts rather than lumens. All energy intensive traditional lighting is being phased out in Europe for LEDs and equivalent. There are exceptions. I didn’t really follow why LEDs weren’t used here? They would produce less heat and would cost a lot less to run?
You should get a inline water filter. Tap water has chlorine and other human safe chemicals. Some plants don't do well with them. And may inhibit beneficial fungus
Thanks and I have never had any issues as the water where I live in Canada has low chlorine levels. I have had outstanding yields for years indoors and out with normal tap water on drip lines. Cheers
Where I live, the water is already filtered and chlorine is added at 1 part per million. The plants will be fine. From the city's water treatment website: How is our water treated? The new plant treats raw (untreated) water using the following process: coarse screening fine screening chemical mixing (if required) flocculation ultra membrane filtration ultraviolet irradiation (secondary membranes only) chlorine gas injection Following filtration, a small amount of chlorine (1 part per million) is added to ensure that bacteria and viruses that may be present do not grow. Please note: fluoride will NOT be added to the City's water.

one thing I can't find people doing is potatoes, I assume they would grow fine in a tent right? but I do think they like the soil a certain temperature too, so I don't know, maybe a heating pad would be needed of some sort
i think if I could grow potatoes, cucumbers, broccoli and spinach all year round, i'd be in a good position
in a tent as big as this guys, you could even grow wheat & dry/store the grains/seeds etc.

Thank you for the great comment! Great idea you have for aeration! Cheers
This video is super helpful. Really, the information provided here is a new bar!
I already bought a small, high-end grow tent, along with high-quality LEDs. My tent is only 5' X 2'. I just want to grow a couple of pepper plants and herbs. The only thing I'm trying to figure out is this:
My basement is just gross, so I don't feel comfortable growing food plants down there.
Cheers 🌱
@indoorgardeningguy1668 ~ Thank you, I appreciate the additional guidance! 👍
Really great breakdown. On an average, could you please tell what is the ambient temp within the tent ? Thanks

How many plants do you think that size will fit? About how many lights to cover the size also?
@@brandyburgess8267 Thank you for the comment! You would need coverage for 10x10 feet. Two 1000 watt HPS or MH will work (1 of each or 2 of the same). Hello there...
I am gathering couple other things before I begin planting. What about fertilizer? I got fish emulsion, worm castings and some other plant "food" granuals. Also did you start the plant like in a tray then transfered them to the bigger pots?
Would you consider showing how you set up your tomatoes pots and trellis?
Thanks
Thanks for your comment! In my other video referencing “My secret food for vegetables” you will see that I use worm castings. Fish emulsion works well too, however worm castings are far cheaper where I live. I started everything from seed directly in the fabric pots, no need to use trays. loved the ideas you put in this video... I am in an area that does not have basements...water table issue. Do you think it could be adapted to above ground?

I didn't have much luck with a CO2 bag, I did Install a wall burner close to my tent that provided heat for the basement and also supplied CO2 to my tent. I just left one of the bottom vents on my tent open opposit side of my vent fan so It will pull the CO2 into my tent. (Used the bottom vent as CO2 is heavier than oxygen and settles lowerer to the ground). You have an Awesome Setup thank you for sharing!

2 things:
your ballast placement is risky, they should be away from combustible materials, sat on a concrete block or something.
your store bought soil has fungus gnats and probably other pests. i really recommend coco coir bricks and re-hydrate them, they are pest free, plants grow very well in it with a little added perlite and using the correct npk value liquid fertilizer for the plants that you grow.

From the city's water treatment website:
How is our water treated?
The new plant treats raw (untreated) water using the following process:
coarse screening
fine screening
chemical mixing (if required)
flocculation
ultra membrane filtration
ultraviolet irradiation (secondary membranes only)
chlorine gas injection
Following filtration, a small amount of chlorine (1 part per million) is added to ensure that bacteria and viruses that may be present do not grow.
Please note: fluoride will NOT be added to the City's water.
I would be using the more economical led bulbs.
Yes! I did note this but LED’s for a larger setup are more expensive to purchase up front. Cheers
