Why don't they make great TV shows like this anymore?? A classic!! Even the theme tune will never be forgotten...🎶🎵🎶.....

I think it has something to do with the "zeitgeist" of our age. We are also now generations removed from the time of this show. If we were to expose the people of the late 60's/early 70's era to the essence of our dystopian society now, they wouldn't believe the levels of delusion, narcissism, hypocrisy, and sociopathy we radiate. Our modern world simply does not encourage the development of great tv shows like this one anymore.

It was a Broadway play; a movie, a TV series, a cartoon series, and two failed iterations back on TV. There's only so far you can take a premise. Especially when they were already well done in the first place.
The chances are you've already seen the movie and the TV series. And somebody, somewhere is doing the play on stage. So, any new version will be compared to all of those and they will come out unfavorably. So, why bother?

I still love this show and I still watch it on the computer. Jack Klugman and Tony Randall were two great actors. But however I will let you in on something. Some of the Street scenes were filmed at the Studio back lot and on the Streets of Downtown Los Angeles. The Baseball episode with Howard Cosell was actually filmed at Dodgers Stadium.

    On November Thirteenth,
Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence.
That request came from his wife.
Deep down he knew she was right.
But he also knew that someday he would return to her.
    With nowhere else to go,
he appeared at the home of his childhood friend,
    Oscar Madison.
    Sometime earlier,
Madison's wife had thrown him out,
    requesting that he never returned.
Can two divorced men share an apartment,
    without driving each other crazy?

Starting with season two, the part of the narrative of how Felix had bumped into Oscar was changed slightly:
      With nowhere else to go,
he appeared at the home of his friend,
      Oscar Madison.
      Several years earlier,
Madison's wife had thrown HIM out,
      requesting that HE never return.

It lives on because of people like my parents, who had me watching reruns on Nick-at-Nite well over 30 years ago. I would make friends watch, and now I have a friend whose 15-year-old son is in love with the show. You can be a cynic (and may both men RIP), or you can help tell the tale.
