Guys, Omi is not Yabushige's (Bird Coat) son. He's his nephew.
Good that he could even tell one from another. 😂
@@zanechi -_-
LANDSLIDE! A land avalanche is a LANDSLIDE
with he show making a point of showing snow, and then melting. More of a mudslide. Minor nit picking point....
@@hawkthorn33id still call it a landslide. I feel like mudslides happen more when there is a large rainfall! This is kinda of in-between though! But since it was a whole mountain coming down I’d lean towards a landslide!
@@parkersaunders5698fair enough. Its a minor point. But they did show snow, and melt for the episode. The lack of dust as it rolled over the army felt more mud to me.
Certain people appreciate stinky cheese. Thats bacteria.
English pheasant is stringy and difficult to pluck, traditionally you would hang it up for a few days and let the outer skin begin to rot, it tenderised the flash and made cleaning easier.
What Blackthorne hadn't considered, because he was a kid when they went pheasant hunting and his dad did the important bits, is that its a bit more technical than that and Japanese weather, bacteria and birds are different.
Theres not much call for dressing game when your an apprentice shipbuilder or sailor.
Modern hunters will age game birds for a week or more too as long as the outside temperature isn’t too high you can do it outside though it should be out of the sun
I read a blog about the pheasant in this episode. Apparently Japan averages around 45-50 degrees in Winter, which is right around what a pheasant should be to uh... cure?... properly. Maybe a google link will find the same article?
@@jasonb6860but the village Blackthorne is living in is right on the water, so it’s a lot more damp. I grew up in New England, damp 45-50 degree days with mostly rain and overcast days is the standard from February to May
@@argella1300 as objections to my reply go, that makes perfect sense.
Very interesting that you pointed this out.
27:45 because Blackthorn doesn’t see himself as part of much of anything bigger. He’s only focused on what’s good for him
"Burps, Farts and Uninteresting Parts" has started to permeate my vocabulary and my family are looking at me very strangely.
I also sounds like an 80's comedy (Planes, Trains and Automobiles).
Historical note: The English were the best in the world at naval gunnery from 16th-19th centuries. It was considered key to national survival from the time of the Spanish Armada on, they practiced harder and spent more time on things like firing faster and hitting targets than anyone else, so this is something where William Adams/John Blackthorne would genuinely be really good at.
"I bet this guy has a good Hamlet in him." "Oh sure" Blackthorne: Alas, poor Uejiro! I knew him, Horatio."
It was not, in fact, the pheasant in the RABBIT stew
Hahahaha!
I think what Mariko is saying is that since you can't be free from yourself, he can't ever be "free". That's why she finds his desire for freedeom to be useless.
Yeah, I think what she was saying was: if all you do is run away from the people and events that have troubled you, then all you're going to have is yourself, the coward who doesn't serve anything but himself.
Just as a reminder. Lady Ochiba is the mother of the Heir. Whatever her personal political objectives are, she is also protecting the son of the Taiko.
Pretty personal then.
"I am the Council"
Mariko really just affirmed Adam's eating habits lol
we picky eaters gotta stick together 😄
32:24 I believe the term is “ landslide”
When Lady Mariko says to Blackthorne "You will never be free from yourself" in reply to Blackthorne's "My life is mine, and yours is yours" - that's a very Buddhist concept and Japanese are mostly following Buddhism/Shintoism at this point and that was how Hosokowa Gracia/Lady Mariko was raised. The goal of Buddhism is to follow the middle way and to rise above selfish concerns. She's saying that his focus on personal freedom is selfish and you can never elevate yourself spiritually until you put the concerns of others above your own. That's her representing her culture vs his views on freedom.
Hosokowa Gracia/Mariko-Sama was a real person who did something similar to similar effect of what they're going to show. There was almost certainly no romance between Adams/Blackthorne and Gracia/Mariko, that's a 1960s/1970s addition by Clavell, but the rest of this is adapted history.
There's no room to make a second season. This is going to be a complete story/Mini-series.
Very interesting facts!
Why is Mariko so effing metal, though 😭😍
Without a stone, a garden is just a place of growing
IT'S YABUSHIGE'S *NEPHEW*, NOT SON.
If you watch anime and you hear the ladies voice at the end of this episode. Then you know shes about to be trouble, beautiful, beautiful trouble. 😅
Fuji didn’t lie to Buntaro! By other lady she meant the “courtesan” her and Mariko set up for Anjin
The series is a bit disorienting for me cuz I've read the book several times and watched the 1980 miniseries several times, too. Many names are slightly different from book to this series. And it's interesting to see how the makers of this series interpret/adapt the book. The book is full of detail. It's definitely worth reading. This series is well done and compelling. I love your reactions to it. :)
Landslide is the word you're looking for
I second Jay's Cosmo-as-Hamlet idea 🙂
This guy was/is in the running for the next Bond right?
i picture hamlet more as kit harrington. cosmo would make a good macbeth though.
You think the sepukku deaths are unwarranted, there’s one in this episode you really aren’t going to like.
Secreat Samurai = historical Shinobi no Mono aka Ninja
Ochiba at the end was like "look at me I'm the Captain now"
"I am the Council"
32:05 it's hilarious that cha-boyz don't have "landslide" in their vocabulary 😂
I'm sorry but it has to be asked...Adam, one of the pickiest eaters, knows what natto is? Love you guys. Thanks for the laughs and bringing joy to the world ❤
I am so excitedddd. You have been such a great duo to watch.
*sigh* The Morphin' grid bit makes me want to reach through the screen and throttle Jay. LOL.
At 14:16 when Jay said "never let them catch you slipping", he never expected what slipping will do to Toranga's son.
Thank you, Jay & Adam! 🗾
Wait till episode 7!
I read the books, and watched the 80's version, but I have no idea what to expect for the next three episodes. But I am all in!
There was plenty of stuff to do back then. In fact you were allowed to be far more creative with your time than we are now with the Internet.
18:58 "Sweet Jesus, do ya have ta use the whole can?!"
I think you’ll find that London has 74 Michelin star restaurants and New York has only 71… and Tokyo has er… 200 but that’s not the point, London out foods New York. 😄
Wow!
Some shows only need 1 season to wrap it up
The middle's not safe!! " You do karate do “guess so” . . . squish - just like grape " 😊
“For Freedom! and ….. Feudalism!”
I think the fact that bantaro hit the post betrays that he wasn't as drunk as we think while beating his wife. He was just an asshole not a drunk and that was an excuse.
BTW, nice Grog T-Shirt Adam!
Love the Shogun reasctions, but also, WHERE IS FREAKING REBELS?!!!!!
I see someone has been playing helldivers!!
Adam being violated by Mariko for being a picky eater..... No!! Not okay! I see Jay's cup.... Eat a Big Mac bro!!😂😂
Killing yourself out of honor is completely about honor.
Sound selfish to me.
@@alalalala57 Study Bushido culture. Take a semester of it in college. Maybe you will understand.
36:00 I think she’s pulling a Cersei but not in a good way
They are still eating fermented beans.
oh my @pReview'd you have to react to interview with the vampire series (AMC). The show is amazing, but it have been less promo in the reaction channels as yours. Soon the second season will be premier in may, so maybe you and group of friend will be interesting in watch it. I will tune your channel for sure.
Sooner or later Toronaga’s son is going to get caught slipping 👀👀
Thanks Freddy Foreshadowing 🙄
@@MichaelWilliams-jg4gfI just said it cause jay said never let them catch you slippin 😂 wait! Does something happen in the newer episodes cause I haven’t seen them yet!
Landslide...
You need to follow the dialog closer instead of trying to be Laurel and Hardy. Do you know why it was a great honor for the gardener to kill himself? Do you know that Buntaro was asking for total forgiveness when he placed his swords on the ground and bowed low? John has been there long enough to know some Japanese etiquette, but John being who he is. Only for John. Doesn't it intrigue you why Mariko is always counseling Toranaga? Always by his side or being at his beck and call. I'm sure, with Mariko's talent for words, that diary that she gave Toranaga was a complete psychological profile of Blackthorn, or did you even realize that she was keeping a diary? Do you know that when Blackthorn forced the issue of Mariko's past, he lost any respect that she had for him. Confucianism is Japan's moral compass and the "Golden Rule came from this philosophy. It is their way of life. Mariko would have told her story when SHE though it was right. I have really enjoyed your reactions but this one I can only rate a C. It was good but not up to your standards. Your reactions are always entertaining. Thank you.
Deus ex terrae motus machina.
Toranaga sent it because it was necessary to do.

I love yalls show, but man it would be nice to see you react to the show more rather than seeing maybe two minutes of show reaction and 30 minutes of commentary
They're probably trying to avoid a copyright strike and RUclips taking down the video. Plus, they do full episode watch alongside on their Patreon.
Lots of commentary wouldn't be so bad if it was about the show, and not just trying to make unrelated jokes while the show is playing in the background.
Clearly ur both first time watchers, not Peaches. 🙄🙄
This ain’t for you guys then
The lack of peach in that comment is tangible
I'm not watching this, I hated the original. It didn't have an ending. It just kinda stopped. Re this version, doesn't the sun ever shine in Japan? The weather here is worse than frickin Seattle. Woof!
Probably because it was filmed in BC.
