      That’s straight B Phrygian Dominant if I recall correctly, rather than Arabic/Byzantine or Persian, but it certainly sounds exotic, and it’s probably my favorite part of the song. And really, the Phrygian Dominant and Arabic/Byzantine are almost identical...you could think of Arabic/Byzantine as a Phrygian Dominant and harmonic minor hybrid, so the only difference in the two is the seventh note.

    • @markop.1994
      @markop.1994 3 года назад

      Ahh oo this is a a fun point. So in the arabic maqam hicaz (the arabic scale) traditionally there is a microtonal variation on the second degree of the ascending scale. ( they hit the minor 2 & sometimes 6 alittle sharp goin up) also the just intonated 3rd is close enough but not necessarily part of the hicaz scale. just 3rd is more of an old western thing, having to do more with harmony than melody. Also there is a neat melodic ending cadence that i think should be noted, namely: the decent to the minor 7th then upto the perfect 4th then down a step to the major 3rd. Because the scale is using major 7 for the most part, when the melody hits the minor 7 its got a vibe. Also it should be noted that most of these melodies have regional variants. Soooo approximating the scale to 12tet fine unless ur tryna learn traditional songs with a traditional group.

    In conventional modern guitar textbooks the Arabic scale can be called either harmonic minor or the modal equivalent of it is phrygian dominant. Check out players such as Jeff Loomis among other modern players etc who use this scale to a large extent

    The Persian Scale is like the Major version of Locrian.
    It has the defining intervals of Locrian but it has Major 3rd and Major 7th. Pretty cool stuff.
    I prefer the sound of the Arabic Scale though.

    I don't know enough to articulate it too well, but exotic scales plus half-step or even quarter-step trills are fantastic. I feel like they have a more emotional, voice-imitating quality. It isn't metal, but Derek Trucks has done some crossover stuff between indian and blues music, and the slide guitar trills he does are spine-chilling.

    I think I have played one of those scales a few weeks ago, or all together...maybe is arabic or egyptian, or moroccan, or spanish...I really don't know which scale are what I played; I did it by try and error, try and error... it's interesting how heavy metal, thrash metal, and death metal have a lot of influence from this ancient music genre which is not from Europe.
    Can you take a look and give an opinion?
