Personally, I had to come back to this stuff since it was a little overwhelming at the time, but after hammering some concepts in, this stuff makes sense to me now that I've got some terminology and mechanics secured. This is advanced-leaning material.
This is excellent and particularly the instruction showing us possible ways to practice. The practice method is so helpful in developing the ear and the "feel" of using scale and arpeggios. Thank you :)
Thank you for posting these great videos. I find a lot of instructional material gets boring or causes me to lose interest pretty quickly, but something about your teaching really resonates with me and I fully intend to spend time learning from you. Thanks once again.
1 million thanks for a video I can't find now when you covered pentatonic substitutions. It has opened up the fretboard all the way for me after years of trying to connect all the dots. Who knew you could play A minor AND/OR B minor pentatonic over an A Dorian jam. The 2 scales blended together connect all the dots!
Thanks Rob. I'd never heard of scale arpeggios before. However, I have unknowingly been using one in one of my own compositions. I'll now go away and investigate further.
Hi Rob, this is by far one of the best guitar channels ever! The depth and diversity of your musical knowledge, your technique, your way of teaching so structured and supported by graphics and scores/tablatures, that surely take you a lot of time and work, even the humorous notes that relax the tension of the lesson ;-) are all awesome! For all that you give us, thank you very much Rob!
Practicing arpeggio patterns with scales to develop technique, is pretty much how I learned my way around various moods and emotions expressed via the vibrating strings. Great video.
Great explanation.... I will now spend the rest of my life trying to incorporate the theory I love into my free play. I have used your avoid trick for some time. Thank you
Great lesson! This makes arpeggio extensions so much easier! Can you please do one on chaining arpeggios? Your lessons are the best and it’s hard to find anything on chaining arpeggios (ascending and descending). Thanks again!
Another awesome video...very useful and nice sounding way to learn this arpegios and get a better understanding of scales sounds-- I really appreciate your videos!
Whew. That was a lot to take in but connects pretty good with where i'm at right now. There'll be PLENTY of hours of practice! Thank you so much for making it.. well, crystal clear :-)
hi there, Please upload the backing tracks for practice routine sections(if we want to practice scale arpeggio patterns of 1 key) . I could not find them
I have to say something, I just have to otherwise I'll suffocate myself uf,ok,calm... Wellll :D "avoid notes" - :) it's a myth, and a false one, why? Because there is something like characteristic notes for each modes :) and by a strange "coincidence", what they call "avoid" at the same time it is characteristic,like... gender of the scale or nationality, or race ("avoid" notes matter!!) looook Characteristic notes: c ionian - 4&7 degree (f,b in context of c) d dorian- 3&6 degree(also f,b but in context of d) e phrygian - 2&5 (f,b in context of e) etc. f lydian - 4&7 (b,e) g mixo. - 3&7 (b,f) a aeolian - 2&6 (b,f) b locrian - 2&5 (c,f) What catches the eye? Triton but! Position of the tritone does not work in lydian and locrian because in root note there is nothing characteristic . in f lydian ,f is root note in b locrian,b is root all scales have root on the first degree and this is why tonic is not a characteristic note. f lydian - 4&7(b,e in context of f) b locrian - 2&5(c,f in context of b) My question is,how to distinguish scales Ionian from locrian if we have the same set of sounds in boat c,f in context of b & f,b in context of c ??? Help!

interesting.
i don't play guitar, but will try to make an arpeggiator with this kind of logic.
This is year 2 music school secret sauce content. Love the visuals
Rob, Don't feel bad about "preferably". English is my first and only language and I can't pronounce it half the time. Just bought the E-Book.
Thanks Jeffrey! It's a difficult word :)
Can’t help but notice how much the tone and style is reminiscent of Eric Johnson.
