Yes please. I have been wondering this also. does your thumb move to follow your middle finger with every subtle shift it makes between strings,? or does it sit generally behind it as you perform a pattern and only move as the position moves. I find a light touch back there is helpful as I move up the neck or my thumb begins to drag along behind my movement as I head toward the pickups.. leaving it with the tip pointing at the nut after a few frets. Do i create pressure with my thumb alone or is there an element of using the arm, shoulder, or center, so the pressure on the fretboard is a function of my whole torso? is your thumb always a perfect 90 degrees to the neck? this could def be a short video.. I know I should be on Patreon and vote. very soon I will. But couldn't resist a comment anyways. Perhaps some other folks can help as well. This community is priceless to me. THANK YOU EVERYONE
Hey I’m gonna sign up to your patreon , but I’m more focused on rhythm playing do you have a lot of lessons on that aspect ? It’s mainly technique I want to work on 🤘🏻
Bernth, do you have any suggestions for playing over more chromatic sounding riffs? I’m trying to figure out how to make my leads sound more demented like cannibal corpse. I normally try to find some way to make diminished or double harmonic minor work but is there a more practical approach to this? Should I just add some chromatic patterns as walk downs to transition in between a couple notes in the scales I’m already using?
I know slayer adds some kind of chromaticism to locrian to get that real evil sound. But I’ve never been able to crack the code on exactly what their method is. Maybe they change up their chromatic note placement a bit every time... that would make it harder to emulate.
Bernth, I’ve wanted to shred my whole life but I had undiagnosed and unmedicated SEVERE ADHD. I started taking ADHD meds and then your channel found me. I’m FINALLY seeing significant improvements in my playing just from your free videos. I’m going to become a patreon so I can continue to improve my skills with your even more helpful private videos. Thank you so much for being you, my metal brother!

Yeah, for sure Raghd. You can't go wrong with these. Good taste by the way. Paul Gilbert knows his way around the Fretboard a little. Keep abusing. Keep playing the ones that trouble you the most. That's how you improve. I abuse 'em all lol.Peace-

i just went to a local metal show and i saw my friend play, i've been playing for a few years but i've never known how to shred and i can already see improvement in my alternate picking. thanks! =)
I was in the 70 percentile group that's been watching your tutorials without subscribing. I suppose it was because I'm a rock/blues player and not a metal Shredder. However, I keep coming back because your lessons are engaging and useful to me. Plus, you seem like a really good dude. I'm taking this lesson for example and am transferring the picking patterns to the mixolydian, Dorian modes from the typical pentatonic runs to make my solos more interesting. I will "never" be this blazing fast but strive to be more accurate, clean and concise in my alternate picking to fretboard hand synchronization. Lessons such as this one helps! Finally subscribed! Thanks!

Guys don't regret the past . YOU have today to start Shredding I"M 63 and just learning to Shred ! Enjoy the present ! I'm loving learning to shred ! Still a lot of work ahead however already seeing progress :)
You are so fluent on that fret board, it's intimidating! I am doing my best to gain control of the speed of my fretting fingers and the attack of my picking hand. I don't even want to like be famous or anything. I just want to shred for the love of IT! I suppose I gotta take it one note at a time and work on this super high Speed! 🎸
Using a small thick pick like the Jazz 3, turning the pick so that it's at about a 45-degree angle to the strings, and playing 3 note per string patterns helped me pick up a lot of speed quickly.
Love you videos man! One suggestion would be to move the tabs up on the screen some so when we pause the video to look at it, it isn't being blocked by the pause menu
This. This is exactly what I needed. A very good demonstration by a nordic man with long hair and an Austrian accent. Im getting very good at power chord variations. This is what I needed to spice up my playing away from just chords. Ty ty so much!
Very cool for you to take time to help us with these exercises. Thank you so much for your time and effort, and for me it's a pleasure to watch your channel. Greetings from Germany. 😊 🎶
so in other words...just come u with a 6-7 or 8 note melody from 2 adjacent strings and just play them up and down and change them for a different patterns keep it in time and your shredding...i think i figured it out...your great man..

EDIT (2 years later): Wow, so I came back to this video and found my comment from 2 years ago lol. I know it sounds corny but, genuinely, keep going, keep practicing. My progress has skyrocketed, it doesn’t even compare to how I played 2 years ago, not even remotely close. At the time I couldn’t even dream of sweep picking and improvising a good solo over a harmonic minor progression. Now I’m very comfortable with the technique (still some flaws but good enough where I can perform my solos live without big mistakes), and I’m planning on releasing a solo prog project soon. I can’t enfacise this enough… keep going, just keep practicing, there will be a time where you don’t suck and will be comfortable playing your original stuff around other people.

Noticed that he only has 5 Redbulls left in the fridge, meaning he skulled 19 before the video, thus enabling him to play this fast.
Farkn funny😂😂😂
Lmao🤣
I think he deep his hands on red bull..... His fingers has wings crazy fast..
Thus enabling him to fly
Weird, I drink 19 red bulls, and all I get is cardiac arrest. Really drew the short straw on that one.
